I'm relatively new to Charlotte and was looking for a salon closer to where I live. I met with Paige last week for a hair consultation to chat about getting extensions. Paige was very helpful and answered all my questions. I also talked with her about coloring my hair and how we could just touch up my balayage that I already had Today I went in for my hair appointment. Paige absolutely nailed it! The color fix she did to my hair made it seem like we colored my whole head and the color blended so well with what I already had. I've lived in the Charlotte area for 18 months, but I hadn't found a stylist yet - after leaving my beloved, mind-reader stylist in Boston, I was reticent to try a new person. But I saw Sarah for a cut and balayage (my first!) this week, and I'm so glad I did! I was bored of my medium-length, one-color hair but am pretty low-maintenance (read: lazy) so I wanted a style that I could air-dry most days and that wouldn't get terrible roots as it grew out a bit. Sarah cut my hair so it actually curls better than ever but still looks cute when straightened, and has nice subtle highlights to spice it up a bit (and because it's balayage, roots aren't an issue). Thank God for Paige. A week before my beach wedding back in October my salon that I was currently using called to cancel my appointment. It was my last one before the big day and I was in dire need of a highlight touch-up and a trim. They said they could get me in on Friday. That wasn't an option since I was leaving for the beach Thursday. I called a few places without any help and finally called Paige. She had nothing readily available but after hearing what happened she immediately told me to come in the next day at 8a (earlier than her norm) because she knew it was a huge deal. She did an amazing job and has ever since. To find a place that has good people who not only are great at their skill but also amazing just to be around is rare. I have been to 3 salons since moving her in June 2014 and after not liking the first at all, the wedding appointment issue with the second, and then finding Paige. I'm done. When Sarah decided to forge her own path, leaving a well-regarded salon after many years there, I followed. Her new location is conveniently located in the Atherton Mill of Charlotte's South End. It's tucked away inside Sola Salons and near a host of great places like Savory Spice Shop, Vin Master Wine Shop and Luna's. She shares the place with one other stylist, it's small but well-appointed and comfortable. As for the haircut . . Sarah translates vague descriptions of problems and desires of what I want. Even when confronted with random, patchy hair loss, Sarah read into the otherwise benign condition, kept tabs on it and cut my hair so no-one noticed. You get a cut, a wash and a drink all for a small premium over a place like Great Clips. Sarah sends me off happy, that's a great return on my investment. read more

I went in to see Paige to get a balayage/ombre color on my dark brown hair. I had previously tried to get it done at the aveda institute and they had done a not so great job and it was spotty and streaky. Paige suggested that we do gloss to cover up the old and have a fresh palate to start with then she would go back over it with the new balayage color, so I agreed. I had a very good idea of exactly what I wanted and had a picture to show her. I wanted it to be much lighter around my face and I did not get that at all. Also, the color wasn't even remotely similar. I wanted a blonde color and instead I got a lighter brown. The color was exactly the same as what I walked in with, the only difference was that it wasn't as spotty. However, only a week has gone by, and the gloss that I paid for is all but gone away and the spottiness is back again. I have tried to talk to her several times about fixing it to what I want and she said I would have to pay another amount even though she didn't do what I wanted in the first place! I am a mother and I do not have the time or money to waste on several trips that have not given me anything different. Overall, not happy! read more

Paige has been coloring and cutting my hair ever since I moved to Charlotte; I feel like I lucked out, not having shop around for a stylist! She really does a great job on my hair - she's the first stylist I've ever had that suggested breaking my base...and I'll never go back! I always leave loving my cut and color, and continue to love them the entire time between appointments - which I didn't think was actually possible pre-Paige. Unlike other stylists I've had, I'm not thinking about how horrid my roots look every waking moment the week before my appointment...my color grows out very naturally, and my cut isn't driving me crazy by week six, either (clearly I have past hair stylist baggage...). I also appreciate that she and Sarah think outside the box...they've always got new products and brands to try out and I know they take classes to stay up on current trends, etc. I don't get to crazy with my cut/color, and Paige has always been more than happy to stick with my it, but I know that if I wanted to switch it up, she'd have some great ideas and would do a quality job, regardless of what I was looking for. I have been going to Paige for over 4 years now! She is the only person that I want to do my hair! She does a great job with cut and color and she is always honest with you about what you can expect, if it is going to take time to get to where you want colorwise, she tells you up front. I've had several colors and lengths since she started doing my hair and she always makes sure that it looks how I want. She also cares about the health of your hair and won't do anything that will damage it and if for any reason you aren't happy with how something turns out, she will have you back in to change it. I wouldn't let anyone else do my hair now other than Paige! They also have great products here. read more

I've been going to Paige for almost a year now. I have very curly hair and most Stylist don't really know how to cut my hair but Paige always works her magic and I leave loving my hair more than when I came in every time. I'm always up to try new hair techniques on my hair so when Paige suggest balayage for coloring my hair I was all for it. I have loved it and I can even go like 9-10 weeks with out touching up my color because the balayage doesn't show where the color starts and stops and makes the color look very natural. Needless to say as long as I live in Charlotte then I will always let Paige do my hair because she does an amazing job. read more

OH MY GOSH. So I have been getting an all over color by the same stylist for 5+ years. She has been great, but I wanted to do a very specific and big (for me) change. My confidence comes from my hair. People are constantly complimenting it. For this change however, I thought it would be best to see someone new. I asked tons of friends for referrals, waited and waited, and called around and got some quotes. I even looked on yelp, which I never do. For some reason, after reading the reviews on poppy, I said screw it. I called Sarah at 745pm on a frickin Wednesday, she worked me in, and I just went Friday. I brought her a picture, as I have done many times for the last 10 years I've been getting professional color done. It's never turned out like the picture. Well... Sarah spent her time talking with me an explaining how she would do it. I was looking at the color swatches and I was definitely apprehensive, but LET ME TELL YOU. WOWOWOWOWOWOW. Sarah did the most phenomenal job. It looks SO AMAZING. I was so afraid I would hate it and want to switch back to the color I have been and loved to be for 10 years. NOT THE CASE. I mean I can't even begin to describe how happy I am with the final product. She also gave me the first real haircut I've had in 4 years. My hair not only looks stunning.. and so natural....It feels completely different. It's lighter, my crown is no longer oily within 5 minutes of washing it. It's unreal. People LOVE it. I love it. She even did my eyebrows! I cannot say enough great things about Sarah. She and her partner stylist Paige were SO nice to me and let me ramble about work for the 4 hours I was there. I literally would recommend Poppy to ANYONE. They are so welcoming and not pretentious. SO AMAZING. So happy I found Sarah. The transformation is subtle to everyone else but MAJOR to me and I love it. I feel bad for Sarah... she is stuck with me now!!!!!!!!! A+++++++ I already have given 2 girlfriends her card. Also- Her prices? Yea, there is no price on how amazing my hair looks. NONE. Completely reasonable. I have paid substantially more at Modern before, and that place scared me out of getting highlights. Never looked good. Sarah is excellent with cutting thick hair. I've had other stylists really mess my layers up with my thick Italian hair and Sarah has not only fixed those mistakes but knows how to keep my hair thinned out and long. She's very responsive when I request an appointment, always on time with her schedule and very kind to talk to. Another thing I like about her is she will be honest with you. I have had cut and balayage done by Paige and I always leave this quaint but comforting salon with a smile. Nowadays, it's more about the experience than it is the cut and with Paige I always seem to feel welcomed and genuinely cared for. She did a great job suggesting products specifically for me and really has a great natural vision for what's best for your look. I have very thick hair and had been hopping from stylist to stylist looking for someone to thin my hair out with the right method so the length is maintained. Each time id leave the salon with some wonky version of "The Rachel". One of my thick - haired friends referred me to Sarah and Poppy and she gets how to cut thick hair. She listened to what I wanted - straightened my hair to get a thorough understanding of what cut I currently had - cut my hair dry so she could see what she was doing - set expectations that it will take some time to get to what I wanted my hair to do - and also took time to teach me how to style my hair. I've lived in charlotte for 5 years now, and I've always gone back to virginia to my hairstylist that I normally go to. But this time I thought I'd give a stylist in charlotte a chance. I went and was Paige, and I want to start off by saying, for her quality of work, she charges way too much money. Since I have blonde hair already, she put dark at my roots to do more of an ombre look. Well its not what I expected. She charged the amount if I went to get my whole head highlightened, and she didn't even put a drop of blonde in my hair. My hair is dryer and feels like straw, my hair has never been this dry, ecspecially after I've gotten it done, even with blonde. Also I asked her to give me a good trim, but I wanted more volume so I asked for a good amount of layers throughout, and all she did was trim.i went to her because of the "good reviews" she had, and I regret it. I will never go back to poppy salon, or go see paige. read more

I've been going to Sarah for several years now and have always been happy with the service and the price. My hair isn't complicated so I could never justify $60+ for a hair cut. Sarah understands my vague and rambling descriptions on what I'm looking for. We recently cut my naturally curly hair shorter - which I've been scared to do for fear of getting the "triangle head" syndrome - but I've been loving the change in style and have gotten lots of compliments on my new 'do!
