This place has done nothing but gone down hill. Food is expired, clothes look like they should be in a thrift store, prices aren't good anymore. Staff leaves a lot to be desired. I will no longer be shopping there. One employee there, I believe his name is Michael (neck tattoo) had an antique store next door for a hot minute, it's already closed! I love this Gem. It is a great place. The items can be hit or miss but I usually find great deals on things I need every month. I never been disappointed with anything I have purchased. Yes, some items are dented, some items are out of date, and the store is very bare bones. The store is clean and food items are not sticky. Terrible management and even worse customer service. Called Pop's this morning to confirm an item was available and the cost, since I live over 30 minutes away. I was told item was there and it was $49.99. When I got there, the item was $120! Manager was extremely unhelpful along with the associate who spoke with me over the phone. Refused to offer any sort of discount or any resolution. The attitude of management and associates was unacceptable. Please be wary, one of the number 1 complaints is cashier never know pricing. read more

I used to come in here every once in a while. They used to have good hair products for cheap prices. I came in here yesterday and almost all of the food items that I checked were old. I found a ramen noodle soup and the expiration date was 2004! If you shop here you must check the dates on ever food item. I personally would never eat anything from here. However, cleaning supplies and a few household items are pretty cheap. Its kind of a hit or miss store you either find a lot of good stuff or nothing. read more

Check expire dates and you will be fine. great buys you just cant pass up at times. I do say they are getting cocky with their prices those and seem to be rising. a lot. watch out. some things you can get in dollar store or Walmart, are cheaper at those store than pops. they are getting brave with over priced things, but then again hey I would too if I had ebt and welfare people coming in with cash aid willing to buy it. no offense. its free money to them and they cant spend wherever pretty much. love it at pops either way tho. read more

They've cleaned up the store a LOT. And I am enjoying the larger selection. Some of the expired dates don't matter. You have to know what you're buying. But not everything is expired. I've saved a ton on food and other products. Things like Bandaids, the prices can't be beat. Cookware, some utensils (depends on what you're looking for,) and paper goods, the deals are awesome. I've found report binders, and other school/office items for good prices. I purchased 20 packages of the Dymo LetraTag rolls of labelmaker tape, the kind we use at work, for $1 per 2-pack. Staples wants $8.99 for the same thing. I saved $159.80 on that purchase, alone. You just have to know what you're looking for, and have the time to sort through. Some things have been a disappointment. But big retail stores have the same track record. You should at least check it out. read more

This is a fantastic store - I want to get that out of the way first. It does have a few problems, but so far the positives FAR outweigh the negatives, and I've been shopping here for about five years. I cannot speak highly enough of the variety this place has when it's well stocked. I've gotten all kinds of interesting and gourmet things here for absolutely dirt cheap - yes, sometimes the packaging is damaged, yes, sometimes it's nearly expired, but it still tastes fine and is perfectly safe. Another thing I've noticed is that Pop's employees don't seem to be biased against disabled people the way I've encountered at many other stores (Wal-Mart, 99 Cents Only, Michael's, etc). My mother has mobility issues and can't stand for very long, so she uses a power chair and hangs reusable grocery bags off the back so she can do shopping trips by herself, and never once has she had an issue with Pop's treating her like she's an inconvenience or a potential shoplifter. The biggest disadvantage to shopping at Pop's comes with the territory - since it's an outlet store, its stock varies based on what's being sold off from big chain stores, meaning sometimes the pickings are slim. But in the time I've been shopping there, Pop's has expanded to include a refrigerated section and an entire second room - so generally, they're improving. Two things to watch out for are opened items and bugs in the dry goods. I don't think Pop's can really be blamed for either of these things, since it's the chain stores that pack and ship the damaged products in with perfectly good things. Pop's buys in lots; they can't help but get a few bad things now and then. I've also encountered bugs at the high-end health food store in Turlock, so honestly, I don't think it's an issue of cleanliness - the little bastards will get into the smallest opening in a package and if it's not packed in clear plastic, you'll have no idea the food's infested until you open it. But in five years I've only found bugs twice, within the same period of a few months - it hasn't been a consistent issue. If you're worried about bugs, avoid the dry goods and you'll be fine. read more

My family and I have been customers at this place ever since they were a tinny little store. We decided to check this place out after the remodeling on Monday night and may I say it looks great! The bad thing is that not only have the prices gone up, but there was tremendous lack of employment. There was only one guy at the register with a line of 7 people. Angry Customers were asking him if he could have someone else check but he said that the other person checking was on break. I used to shop here at least weekly, I don't go anymore. Other reviews cover most of the reasons, but the reason that is not just repulsive but frightening is their unsafe food handling behavior. I have, nurmerous times, brought room temperature items from shelves to the cashiers. Likely customer abandonment. These are items that require refrigeration (cheese, cold cuts, frozen meals...). It's not appropriate or legal for me to just throw the stuff away. They say thank you and put it to the side. I check back, and they are in the refrigerator or freezer, still warm. They just put them back. I've taken them out of the refrigerator or freezer and gone back to the cashier telling them they can't put it back in. They apologize, then it's back in the coolers again. I asked the obese manager why they were doing that. He just shrugged. I said I would report it; he said "do what you gotta do". I made every effort to report, and no one knew who to contact in the city or county. So, buyer beware. Just because you got it out of the frig or freezer doesn't mean it is safe. read more

Some of their prices are good, but a lot of things are expired. It's hard to check the receipt since everything is not labeled on it. It's better to total your cost up and watch the register prices because you cannot do anything once you walk out of their tight checkout area and customers who are being rung after you and kind of shoeing you away. read more

This is why it is an outlet store. They sell outdated, bents, dents, and rejects from the grocery stores. What better way to save money? I, personally, am not afraid of dented cans, and it depends on what the item is if it is expired. Usually that is just a recommended time, and food is usually good for a lot longer than that. The store is not very clean, but really what do you expect when you are saving that kind of money? Everything is so much cheaper that it pays for me to go there once a month and purchase what I need. Usually get a cart full for around $60. Have only had a few things purchased from there that were not good. Pasta, flour, sugar, cereal, cookies, cake mixes, they have all been ok. The best thing is--they give back to the community by having FREE food giveaways! Pops has saved us a lot of money. read more

I purchased a sealed box of Claritin Liqui-Gels, and there was one tablet missing. a box of rissotto was sealed, I opened it last night and found half the contents missing and a hole in the bag. The eclipse gum had one piece taken from it's package. The trail mix bag had a hole that I did not notice and moths flew out when I opened the bag. The owner is willing do just about anything to make money. Buy at your own risk. read more

It's for saving money on basics. Some of the sources are SavMart and Safe Way. I haven't a problem buying dented cans/boxes, or funky stores in an industrial area. I get what's good and then shop the other stores. There alway seems to be candy, cake mixes, box pastas, jars of spices/packets, cereals, olive/cooking oils, canned foods, sodas. Half of my pantry is from there. Occasionally, there are organic labels. I have bought Star Bucks coffee, name brand food and soda here. read more

This place has the best deals around. A lot of items are not really expired, but it has a sell by date on them. That does not mean the product is old or not good. I come here a couple of times a week to buy various things and they are always good. I'll continue to shop here for the bargains and name brands. Definitely helps my wallet! read more

I used to shop at this place all the time, but now prices are ridiculous. they mark things down for 50% off of the regular price plus they compare their prices with expensive stores like walgreens, CVS, and etc not walmart or even dollar stores. you can easily buy all the products with the very lower price at the original stores when they have things 50 or even 70 or 80% off. On the other hand I usually purchase UNEXPIRED item online for the very lower price. Things are just getting worse at this store. its like a JOKE! all the expired medications, foods, expired coffees, smashed caned for only couple of dollars lower than original stores. you should check how they keep expired medications in the shelves so people can't touch them. its called a bargain outlet for a reason and the items that are expired don't go back very far and that's because most people dont mind it, with this economy the way it is...who really cares about a lil dirt...if you wana shop high class Raleys aint to far and they give free wipeys. some people cant even afford a roof over their head...i think its great we have a store like this to help out the low income ....they donate alot of food that cant be sold ....and people go crazy over it ... its one of the best bargain stores around...glad to have it it here it really does help ...besides don't you think if they were buying perfect stuff they probably would have a food max selling for 3xs the price ....thanks for helping out pops..your a great store! read more
