This place was okay, but I've had better poboys. I ordered their Cuban variant, which was a bit too sweet, and my fiance had one of their shrimp poboys, which she liked. The real standout was the watermelon daiquiri- fresh, a large size, and really tasty. I'm wondering if my issue was just a poor choice in poboy. Really tasty poboy (Delcambre Dandy) and fun atmosphere. Good, friendly service. A little pricey but expected for a smaller local business and well worth it. However...the mac n cheese. Sigh. It was spaghetti noodles, not macaroni, and while that may not matter to most folks, I really dislike dealing with long noodles, so I was really bummed about that. (although a bit pricey). id probably give them 4 stars if they actually had fountain drinks and some major cola brands... but they dont.. settled for some weird version of bottled rootbeer.. which isnt what i wanted.. but it was drinkable... so would that deter me from returning ? probably.... read more

I was here on Saturday for the very first time. I'd heard great things about this place. Every thing I heard was true. The poboys are incredible. I played it safe by ordering the classic shrimp poboy. I was very good. I wish I had tried the special of the say which was a barbecue shrimp poboy. Great food that always is perfect. While the poboys are always an excellent choice, I have to admit that the fried pickles are my fave--or is it the pimento cheese with those seasoned fire saltines. The fried pickles are paper thin and lightly battered, recently during a visit to court I ordered and couldn't eat them all. Leftovers in the car and took home, and were still crispy that evening and next day (after being in fridge). The salads are also an excellent choice, lots of meat in cheese. All the food here is delicious, and I think they use Langlonais bread---yum! Toasty and fresh, but not hard. read more

Visited area on 9/30/17 Meh is definitely right. Kept it simple and ordered a classic with crispy shrimp. Took 30 minutes for the food to come out, & that was after I asked waitstaff. Then when I take 1st bite shrimp was lukewarm and tomatoes were mushy. Staff didn't acknowledge anything about order taking longer than usual or even seem apologetic. Place wasn't too crowded and orders after ours were coming out before. Also, overheard at least 2 customers say their orders were wrong. I've had much better poboys in much less time and I'm from Texas, go figure. Mac & cheese was good but hush puppies were not. Pups were bland and came with "cajun butter". Specialty wich of day "buffalo chick" was pretty good and came out before shrimp. I'll find somewhere else to eat next time I'm in area. read more

Holy cow! This place makes a damn fine poboy! Pop's is a great new addition to downtown Lafayette, as it needs more diverse and high-quality restaurants and businesses. The people there are friendly and the atmosphere is very low-key and relaxed. But as for the poboys... They are incredibly creative. Although a little on the pricey side, it's worth the occasional indulgence (the portions are YUGE anyway), and you're getting good quality, fresh ingredients. I've yet to try all of the crazy poboys they have or the salads (I can't make myself order a salad at a joint like this... Just seems so wrong!), but so far my favourite is the Red Bean Falafel, which is like a Cajun chef making Mediterranean cuisine, and then putting the aforementioned heavenly creation in your mouth. The Delcambre Dandy is great; it's like a regular fried shrimp poboy, but fancier and awesomer (the lemon caper sauce is to die for). The Cajun Castro is a nice big splurge - make sure you don't have to go back to work after you have one because it's conducive to epic afternoon naps. Oh, and another great thing? Their Pimm's Cups are some of the best I've had outside of New Orleans. Get one. The only reason Pop's gets 4/5 stars is because of the hours. It'd be nice to see it open for dinner every day and on Sundays, but I guess we can't have it all. read more

Pops is Tops! Son goes to UL so have been coming to Lafayette for years and trying every restaurant under the sun. He suggested we give Pops a try. Wow, the food was absolutely outstanding. WE started with the pimento spread with fire crackers and found it to be truly delicious. We ordered three different poboys with ingredients varying from cajun sausage to roast beef to fried shrimp and found them all to be top notch. They have a neat little bar in the back with reasonably priced drinks that was the icing on the cake for this place. Location isn't bad either, being right on the cusp of the historic downtown area and the staff was pleasant and helpful. Do yourself a favor, give Pops a try... read more

Wow this place is AMAZING! It's located in downtown Lafayette which apparently is going thru a revitalization. A very trendy eatery that's nicely designed. Upon recommendation, I ordered the Banh Banh poboy and a side of Mac-n-cheese. Hands down this is probably the best Mac-n-cheese I've ever had. Each order is served in a black iron skillet (see photo). It was so cheesy! Short cut string noodles are used in place of the standard elbow noodles. Writing this makes me want to get some more. The Banh Banh poboy is a hybrid of a Banh mi (with use of picked carrots, cucumber, and I believe a hint of soy sauce) and Bang Bang Shrimp. There are a variety of poboys to choose from. The branding is cool. If I'm ever back in Lafayette I shall return. A few suggestions: extend your hours. Also open a location in Baton Rouge as it will thrive in that market! read more

First off, it took 55 minutes for food to come out...one part of our order at a time. The Mac & cheese was ok. The surf & turf was all mushed up pork & the oysters got mushy in it. I don't like how there isn't a huge drink selection, pretty much either buy expensive local Swamp Pop soda (which tastes great) or buy a bottle of water. What happened to fountain drinks with free refills or free water? But other than the pricey nonrefill drinks, this restaurant's sandwiches are perfect and the food is consistent. I went here for the first time this week after hearing rave reviews. I was very disappointed and won't go back. First, it took nearly an hour to get my po-boy. I called ahead and ordered. I was told it would be about 25 minutes. I arrived right at the 25-minute mark and went to the bar to pick up my food. There was no food ready. There were two women working. One literally looked at me, did not ask my name, what I needed, if I had been helped, etc. She just looked at me and left the bar area. The second woman (who was very busy) did ask my name and let me pay. I waited about another 20-25 minutes until FINALLY I got my sandwich. During this time, I noticed there was hardly any food coming out to the customers waiting at tables. They did finally start bringing out some to-go orders (including one that was completely wrong for another customer) and someone checked on mine. I got the Delcambre Dandy, which is fried shrimp with arugula, tomato and a lemon sauce. The first thing I noticed was that the bread was EXTREMELY DRY, almost to the point of looking stale. The first few bites of the po-boy were also very dry. The lemon sauce covered shrimp on half of the po-boy, but not the first half. Overall, I was very disappointed. I did end up eating it all, but it was nothing that was worth an hour wait and a rude cashier. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to make the mistake of waiting an hour for dry bread again. I'll stick with Olde Tyme Grocery, where the line is always long but I have never waited more than 10 minutes for a po-boy. read more

Amazing oyster poboys! The fry batter is light and made with flour, not corn- which allows the inherent texture and flavor of this delicate seafood to shine. A lot of places overcook their oysters, or use old grease. But Pop's knows what they are doing and their french bread is right on target. The food was great! If you are looking for good food this is definitely the place to go. But it was a little over priced dare I say kinda hipster vibe maybe you're into that I don't know. The workers were kinda rude the man taking our order was snappy and my friend asked for a cheeseburger Poboy with just meat and cheese (she's weird I know lol) and he literally said do you want bread like my friend was stupid and was disgusted by her order. It was also a little weird they only have a water dispenser if you get a coke or any drink all you get is a glass bottle one. That was kinda annoying but I get it kinda. So then comes to us waiting for our food we didn't wait like a crazy amount of time a little while longer than I liked but I wasn't really that worried ab that I get it takes time. So we are waiting for our order and one lady comes and takes our table markers and moves them to the front of our table it was rude the way she didn't say anything and just moved them and didn't say excuse me. Then our food comes all I ordered where the fried pickles(they were pretty good). But I get them and I'm not really paying attention the lady just sits them down doesn't say anything. So I take a bite and realize it's fried okra (was also pretty good) but I wanted pickles so I told another lady that It was wrong and she goes "you didn't tell them when you got it" in a very rude way... and then takes the plate, one other lady did say sorry so I will give them that. Then they bring the rest of the food and my pickles and while she's putting the food down my friends ranch cup gets knocked over and the lady goes "oh no" picks it up and walks away quickly and doesn't offer to get a new ones kinda weird considering half the ranch is was split by this lady. Definitely made me upset had very good food but I felt like they were annoyed by my friends and I. I'm younger but I've worked in the food industry and it's so important to be nice. I'm not picky and I'm super understanding but they were flat out rude. read more

O this place is good but I'm biased because I loved Viva La Waffle, I always get the Boudreaux I loved that Coleslaw on top of that hot fried catfish and the crispy poboy bun man o man it's good. (i'm smiling just thinking of it now) I did try the Hot Hot, it is indeed that my goodness it was so Hot!!! Lunch on a Saturday. The place was fairly busy and looked very nice. We had high hopes. I ordered the burger. I was told it was on a poboy bun. That was my main mistake. Burgers never belong on a poboy bun. That's why they make burger buns. Meat was extra well done. They say it's suppose to be medium. Not even close. Not much flavor. Wendy's or Sonic make a better burger. The fries were very good and seasoned well. Hush puppies had no flavor. They did have dipping sauces. We opted for the tarter. Not something we cared for. I updated my review to 5 stars because the food here is just so, so, so good. Seriously. Tried their fries for the first time, loved them with the buttermilk green onion ranch. Had The Situation meatball poboy today. Oh my god, amazing. My boyfriend and I have been working our way through the whole menu. We keep getting derailed by the specials. We had the Hot hot the other week. It was DELICIOUS. Be warned-it's effing SPICY. I am a lover of heat in food and this took me by surprise. It's damn hot lol but it's really good. Had the muffuletta special the other week and it was great too. Wishing for a soft shell crab special lol but until then we have several others to try. Make sure if you get roast beef or the jack special add extra gravy, you won't be sorry. The only one we had that was just ok was the bahn mi style. Definitely not bad but I wouldn't reorder but I know people that love it. You can't go wrong. I wish them all the best. Have yet to try the Darlene, delcambre dandy, reg shrimp, oyster and catfish, sausage (not a huge sausage fan may skip), big Frite A, the red bean falafel and the burger. Do yourself a favor and go to Pop's. Lafayette has an enormous amount of options for quality po boys, but Pop's takes a classic to a different level by incorporating a lot of other South Louisiana flavors into their menu. This place is amazing. read more
