Meat was served in this container covered with foil. It does not look like much but fed four people.

Stopped to visit family in oOak Grove and they took us to this hidden gem that is only open on weekends. By far it was my favorite BBQ spot while in Missouri. We bought the meal with some of each meat. The ham, sausage and pulled pork were excellent. Ribs and turkey were very tasty as well. I enjoyed their Mac-n-cheese. I actually bought an additional side of it for the table. You ordered at the counter and served yourself with drinks and other needs. It was set up with nicely spaced tables inside and had plenty of napkins.

We came here as a large group with a few kids and about 5 adults (though one person did not eat the meat). We ended up getting a few options for dessert, including cheesecake and the red velvet cake. All were very tasty, though we were sad they were out of the peach cobbler. The sampler plate was very generous and had all different types of meat and there were different sauces that we could choose from at the side as well. They also provided a bag of burger buns for us to use. For the price of around $65 plus tip, the amount of food, drinks, and desserts we received was very good and we were glad we came here to get a taste of Missouri bbq, which was smoked l, dry, and had unique sauces. The staff here were also friendly and accommodating.

Three sauces, they look alike but they do have a distinct flavor: spicy, sweet, mild.

Worth the drive? Probably not. Here's the truth, we had high hopes but it wasn't that impressive. It's one of those places that, if you live close you think it's decent, worth your Friday, Saturday, or Sunday (during the limited time it's open). Burnt ends, shrug. Pulled pork, shrug. Mac n cheese, not bad! Sausage, good if you like Johnsonville but very plain. Sauces, very uninspired. Potato salad, delicious. Summary, if you live in the area and don't want to drive into KC, you'll enjoy it. Otherwise, stick to KC BBQ.

Plenty enough to half and satisfy your needs. The ordering system is similar to Chipotle. There are cash registers and cashiers who take your order at a long counter. The food is quickly prepared in the kitchen, and a runner brings the food to the table. #btw - the cashiers have a tip jar under the counter. So be nice and tip the crew!! The dining room is well lit and VERY large. It's apparent this place is a BIG FAVORITE of "working men" and everyone else! Lots and lots of construction workers in their fluorescent vests. As transplants from another state, and BBQ not being our first language, we wanted to try new things! They came to the table and we were all sort of perplexed. Were they supposed to look like...that? Either way, we dug in. They were cold in the middle, also a strange discovery to us. I ordered the burnt ends, which came to the table closer to cold than warm. The blue cheese potato salad was tasty and all it needed was a lil salt and pepper to make it perfect. All was going well, until my husband was about 4-5 bites into his brisket wrap. He asked me to smell it, and I did. It was funky! Smelled a lot like a foot and not a lot like a tortilla. He asked the server to smell it and they agreed it was a bit odd. The manager came over and denied it smelling like anything. My husband had finished his meal, and we weren't looking for a freebie but wanted to let them know it was a lil weird. Instead of acknowledging the potential issue, we were dismissed as "wrong." It just didn't sit right with me. My husband had some definite issues in the hour or two after eating, so we won't be back. I won't say it was food poisoning because genuinely it could have just not agreed with my husband. I'll put my disclaimer on here, I hope people do enjoy and continue to patronize this small business, it's just not to my liking.

Like another iconic joint in the metro, this one is a former gas station. The brisket at that place is a little bit better. However, everything else that I tried here is spectacular. The sliced brisket was just a little dry. It wasn't bad. The sausage was amazing. It is housemade with green onions and incredible. I generally don't care for sausages that are different, but this one is exceptional and everyone at the table tried it and loved it. The pulled pork was fresh, which is super important and delicious! Two starving travelers had just finished watching a World Cup match in Kansas City and headed over to Blue Springs in search of food. By pure chance, we ended up choosing a well-known local restaurant. The calamari was very good -- proper, full-sized squid rings with a relatively light coating. After being battered by a downpour, it was exactly the kind of thing you want to calm yourself down with: fat and protein. The hamburger was also very well made. During happy hour, the value for money was especially good, and it came with grilled vegetables, which made the whole meal feel surprisingly well balanced. It was my first time trying Country Fried Steak. My companion was not really a fan, but after looking it up later, I realized that it is a distinctly American comfort food. Well... had I not already been full, I probably could have helped him out with half of it. The onion rings that came as a side also looked excellent -- big, substantial rings, not those tiny chain-restaurant ones that almost look like calamari. The Caesar Salad was very good too. I did not use much of the dressing, but honestly, the cheese and vegetables were already enough for me. To sum it up, if time allowed, I would probably replace the hamburger with something more distinctly local next time. To be fair, we had barely eaten anything for about 12 hours before walking in, so we were not exactly in the mood to take risks. And as it turned out, spending more than $50 on a two-person bowl at the stadium was nowhere near as satisfying as holding out a little longer for a genuinely good local meal in the Kansas City area -- with a beer on top of that. Absolutely worth it.
