The bbq sauce was nothing like I was expecting, but for the sake of getting breasted by the internet, I was expecting a flavor profile similar to KC masterpiece. Thick and spicy molasses flavored, this was a little more tomato than molasses IMO. Meat did not have a strong smoke flavor to it either. But honestly, I'm sure other folks would love this, objectively nothing wrong with it, just did not taste as I was anticipating. I think the atmosphere of being attached to a gas station adds something to the nostalgia, but the staff is the real star of the show. Everyone is super friendly and they really push people through. I also thought the Barbecue sauces were very good. Plus I wasn't hassled for asking for more sauce or asked to pay a up charge. Classy place ! The Barbecue beans were also off the hook. They were so meaty and delicious. I could honestly make a meal out of them. This is not a hole in the wall place that makes you feel like you went back in time. The establishment obviously takes pride in everything they do. It shows in so many ways. The place was clean and the employees were well dressed. The cooking staff management team looked like they were proud to wear their beautiful black uniform, very professional and impressive. Putting that all aside the atmosphere is very impressive. Price wise it was comparable to the other outdated dirty places. Definitely a place to bring your guests especially if they are visiting Kansas City.
