This place is so good! Every time I go, I get the rice and beans platter with a side of pork and mix everything together. The sofrito base of the beans keeps the platter from being too dry and the pork usually has some tender and moist cuts. One star off for being cash only, average empanadas, alcapurria, and other starters, and for a little bit of inconsistency in the quality of the pork. Pro tip: go during the day! There are cops everywhere at night cause this restaurant is in the hood. Overall, solid Puerto Rican fast food that's better than a lot of the Puerto Rican food I had in sit down restaurants in Puerto Rico. read more

This place, a literal hole-in-the-wall, is probably the best Puerto Rican food place in the East coast! We found out about this place by friends, but they were selling the place with such enthusiasm that I admit I started to doubt their sincerity. Oh, boy were they right! After four or five visits so far throughout the span of 3 years (we live in NVA and only visit the area for rowing competitions), we have tried almost everything on their menu. Rice and beans, morcilla (Puerto Rican blood sausage), alcapurrias, pernil, yuca, I mean... everything is delicious! But, my favorite is carne frita (fried pork) with mofongo! Out-fricking-standing! Ok so I came here on a Friday around 12 and would think all the food was fresh I was wrong it looked like it was sitting there all morning so I didn't want to pay 10$ and not be able to eat so I got my self a meat empanada and omg that had no meet and also was sitting there all day Bc the shell was hard it was like a Taco Bell hard shell lol as you can see in the PCs I had to take most of it off to even out with the meat. Anyone with half and ounce of the ability to spot a walkin' talkin' stereotype can deduce that I come from an Irish family. However, at least part of my heart and stomach is Puerto Rican. Spending my formative years and more growing up in the Bronx has ingrained in me a taste for the mofongo, forever. I have a real thing for all forms of plantains, oh, and of course, pork too. Between neighbors' cooking and neighborhood spots, forget it, I was virtually raised on the stuff and it's one of the things than I miss about my former Bronx-livin'. When that hankering for snacks of my youth hits me, up North 5th Street we drive to Porky's Point's take-out window. Not bad a'tall... This is the little home of inexpensive, tasty Puerto Rican fast food; pernil by the pound, or sandwiched on softer-than-I-like long rolls. It's a good sandwich though, and easily splittable, just make sure to ask for it cut in halfsies, otherwise it will come in one big sandwich. Though that roasted pork is fairly juicy and tender (and flecked with crispy skin crackles), I ask for extra gravy every time. I order extra gravy in every language, apparently. Un-surprising. Anway, Porky's "gravy," is a thin, garlicky, tomato-based sauce. It goes on everything along with the hot sauce that sits on the long stainless steel counter. I order that gravy poured on the mofongo, thus transforming it into a porridgey, and extra flavorful mash. I order it extra on the side as well, for every carb-bombing fritura for our Puerto Rican picnic in the park... tostones, papas rellenas, pastelilos, the occasional rice and beans platter...on and on. We take it all to go, usually end up driving to a park to find a bench or picnic table, as the options for dining at Porky's Point are nil... unless you wanna belly up to the counter to enjoy your comidas. Frankly, the fact that we typically plan to be feasting like animals keeps us from standing and hunching there. A real spectacle it would be. So, the point here... heh heh, the point... is that Porky's Point can sometimes really hits the mofongo spot. The roast pork spot too. Look for the sign with cute cartoon piggies serving up themselves. read more

One of the best take out for Puerto Rican food! I personally go for the pinonos, yucca y pernil because it's the best place for roast pork. Much like the spots you find in Puerto Rico, just in Philly. Fast, efficient and delicious. What more do you need? The food is very good if you catch it when it is freshly made . . . what you have to be concerned about is the arrogant worker who for some reason treat everyone like POS. Especially the worker who carries a gun in his waistband showing it off as they tell off people and act arrogant. The Spanish food served here is good for what it is , fast food served on the spot, the cuajito is a bit over priced for what it is , sautéed pig ears dredged in a vinegar and oil base. The morcilla was good but somewhat dry i needed to dip it in some vinegar to really make it pop, the potatoe balls were good but lacked a bit more gravy over all I can say that the food was good but for the prices I expected just a little more food I was still hungry after ordering three items. read more

No-frills, top-notch Puerto Rican take out in North Philly. My girlfriend and I stopped by the point on our way out of town and it was the highlight of the trip. We ordered two pork sandwiches, one with hot sauce and one with BBQ sauce, and promptly scarfed them down. The pernil is the star of the show. Not to be missed, and not to be taken for granted. I suggest for porkys to eat their own food and compare it to a place like Fred and Tony's down the street. I only went here because Fred and Tony's was closed and I probably won't come back. I ordered the relleno de papas- they had chunks of potato in it when it's supposed to be a smooth texture and it was very bland. The meat was barely there and honestly was flavorless and dry.The gravy didn't save it either. I ordered the pernil sandwich which was good and I'd order again but I had to add stuff to it when I got home to make it worth anything. I also ordered the alcapurrias and it was mushy on the inside- which was so weird to me. It seemed like it was cooked on the outside but the inside didn't get fully cooked. The flavor was good though. I used to come here years ago and loved it so I thought it would be a great experience again. They have change something about the quality and flavor of their food. Yummy Puerto Rican food at a great price. I love the beef stew platter with yellow rice and beans. The meat is tender and well seasoned. The rice is fluffy and soft. It's so good! Was craving tostones and decided to go here to get some since I remembered going here as a kid with my dad for Puerto Rican food. As I pulled into the parking lot, I noticed it wasn't what I remembered. There's terrible parking. They only accept cash. I ordered 2 beef pastelillos ($2 ea & delicious), 2 orders of tostones ($1.50 per order & not what I envisioned at all & cold), 1 bread pudding ($1 & literally came out the refrigerator)- together $8, which the guy said initially. Then, I added an half pound of pernil ($4.50 (since the lb is $9) & piping hot but lacked flavor ). However, he came to the window and said $16 total. HOW!? Never again. read more

The only thing that was very disappointing was the potato balls they had no flavor and barely any meat inside. Fried chicken was awesome and so was the rice.
