I read prior reviews now before I review. It's a shame that some of the other reviews were not good. I liked the establishment. I thought it was just a front room that we ate in and that was it. I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and found a bar and another dining area. Upstairs they had even another room (I could hear people up there). Onto what you want to read about. I ordered the pork sandwich. It came to me with bbq sauce on the side, that is ok, I can put on as much as I want. It was very tasty, the bun was a high end one like a brioche, however I don't think it was. My wife had a turkey club, she liked it, however, she wanted more of a chunky meat and not thinly sliced. The onion rings that I shared with my wife had good taste and were homemade, not frozen. My wife got the broccoli salad that she shared with me and it was very good and fresh tasting. The only reason I gave it 4 stars (and it may not be their fault) is due to my wife wasn't impressed with the turkey. She wanted bbq, but she also wanted to eat healthy and that was the only thing on the menu that she felt was healthy. I recommend it, I think anyone who goes would enjoy the food and atmosphere. Ordered the muffaleta for dinner. Cost me over $40 for 2 sandwiches. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. The ham on the sandwich was so overcooked and dry that it tasted pretty awful. I ended up eating about a 1/4 of the sanwhich and threw the rest of it away. I've had this sandwich a couple times in the past and it was always so good, but it was a huge let down this time. The baked potato I had as a side to go with it looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp all day. I felt like i wasted $40. I should have gone with my gut and went to Chickfila but I wanted something different. Guess I'll stick to my gut next time. Located along the River/Wall, this resturant is located in a very old building - supposedly the office of Ulysses S. Grant. Building floor is a little slanted - espically near the walls. Food was good. Service was good. We didn't make reservations but I would recommend you call ahead. The Mississippi River is right along side of the resturant - just on the other side of the wall. Went to this restaurant today with some friends for lunch we all ordered wings 12 pieces to be exact each one of the three of us our food comes out and one of my friends said they gave me nine drumettes and three Flats so she asked the waitress could they correct the problem the problem being that she got nine drumettes and three Flats the waitress went on to say very kindly sweet young lady well that's how they do here so my friend asked for a manager the manager came out his name was Doc someone told me he was the owner this man doc was so unprofessional rude and disrespectful my friend continue to explain to him what the problem was that her 12 piece chicken wings had nine drumettes and three Flats instead of six drumettes and Six Flags the manager doc told my friend we don't dig in the bag and separate them we just pull them in the grease my friend was very unsatisfied with that and ask him can he make it right he told her no she asked doc well how can we correct this problem he said no very rudely when I saw him coming from the back originally he was coming for confrontation I knew it was going to go bad the manager doc did I later found out supposed to be the owner tell her she didn't like it don't come back and she had to still pay for them 12 wings my friend told him she will not be paying for those 12 wings she will pay for her soda her side dish and her drink Doc got very mad and told her don't come back to Port Cape again he even went as far as to say he will call the police on her I don't know what kind of restaurant this is but it's very sad to be treated that way in a restaurant as well known as pork cake in Cape Girardeau Missouri read more

This place is great! *Fun fact: Grant used this building during the Civil War. The people are really friendly and ready tl help you. You have plenty of options that you can choose from a I don't think that you can't go wrong with anything that you order. I ordered the BBQ sandwich with pimento cheese . The flavor was very good and I really did not know what to expect. I have always ordered the regular pulled pork sandwich and this time I decided to live on the edge and I ordered the Pimento BBQ sandwich. The flavor was great. Salads were fresh, hot dishes included a beef and gravy, mashed potatoes, chicken-mostly thighs, wings, legs but a good seasoning and crust on the chicken, steamed carrots, fried okra, and artichoke hearts. We had a food service deliver. My companion loved her fried shrimp and French fries. I had some of this and it was delicious. I had the Bel Aire potatoes which I enjoyed. I did not enjoy the Prime Rib sandwich. The meat was almost as thinly sliced as Arby's. There wasn't much of it and then I had to reduce it by half to remove the big chunks of fat. Yikes. Worst lunch ever. Friday December 15, 2023. We go in for a nice lunch, something we've done at this very restaurant many times over the last 15 years. This was our last visit. We were one of three tables during this time in the dining room. Our server had ONE table. Service started off okay, our server seemed nice. We quickly realized that when our potato skins appetizer that had come out that it was missing the pulled pork. We realized that she had not put the order in right and said she'd have the kitchen rush our fixed appetizer, cool. At this time we had also asked for salsa and she never brought that. Twenty minutes later and still no "rushed" appetizer, but our lunch orders came out, we asked for ketchup and we told her we no longer wanted the potato skins because it had been SO long and now our meals were here. She said that she couldn't do anything about it, but possibly discount it. Okay. (We were forced to pay for the potato skins even tho we didn't eat them). Twenty seven minutes later here come the potato skins, burnt. Still no salsa. Still no ketchup. We asked another server who grabbed it and handed it to us very quickly. We asked our server for boxes and yet again, she never brought them. We asked another server after waiting five minutes and she helped immediately. We asked for a manager at this time. But we're told no manager is on site until 2pm. We spoke with one of the other girls there about our issues and then our server decided to come and argue with us right there in the dining room. Claiming she did everything we asked, (remember- no salsa, no ketchup, no boxes) and complained about how far it was to walk from the dining room to the kitchen. Really?! We waited a little bit. The "manager" finally showed up about 215 and did nothing. She looked as if she was straight out of bed and was absolutely no help either, she blamed the kitchen having issues and blamed other things as well. She placed blame anywhere she could and still just wasn't helpful at all. Oof. I hope our server finds a new job. She really doesn't belong in the food service industry with her lackadaisical and bad attitude. Hopefully other people who continue to dine here have better service than we did. It's sad to see one of our favorite places for catfish go downhill so much over the last year. read more

However, the last few times we've been there, between the open drama between staff, poor service, and far less than stellar food, I can no longer recommend it. Started going to Port Cape when I began college in 1976. In the many years since graduation, I've wanted to come back for the ribs that had a unique brisket flavor. So now, 41 years since graduation, I brought the family back to see if Port Cape still had the delicious ribs I remembered. YES! I asked our server how they have maintained the same quality and unique taste. She shared with me the owner, David Knight, back when I first came all those years ago, designed and built the smoker and the recipe. I'm passing through on a work trip and needed to get some dinner, came downtown and walked around. Came upon another restaurant and they had a 30-minute wait. Walked around to kill the time and came onto Port Cape Girardeau. I ordered the original ribs and it was better than I could have ever anticipated. Great fries, amazing texture and awesome sauce. Service was attentive and very helpful. Beautiful ambiance with the lighting at the perfect lumens. As well live music was playing in the background in a bar inside of the restaurant. Great atmosphere, just loud enough to fill the void and quiet enough to have conversation. The bar where the music emanated from was perfect for a drink. If I could give zero stars I would. This can be proven as there is a video that was recorded. 100% don't recommend this place, and if you're planning on watching any sports game at Port Cape make sure you're cheering on the same team they are, or you'll be cussed by the staff and kicked out by a lady stating she's the owner following you down the side walk once you've left. This woman claiming to be the owner called another woman a "Fat ass bitch". My sister recorded as they were walked out because of how unprofessional this lady was. Thankfully my sister started recording because the woman stated my mother slammed the door in her face which is incorrect, and I had to laugh watching the video because my mother was already down the side walk and my sister was actually between my mother and the woman claiming to be the owner. You can literally see the door go to close normally, did she expect the people she was kicking out to hold the door open for her? After my mother continued to walk away the woman continues screaming and at one point even charges down the side walk with her finger pointing out, stating she has a "Cop Friend" as she would definitely need it to be a friend because the only wrong doing was by her harassing the customer that has left as instructed. After she called my mother a fat ass my sister let her know she was in no place to be calling anyone that in which she called my sister ugly. UPDATE: The unprofessionalism and threats continue. We waited for over 30 minutes for a table although we could see several empty tables throughout the restaurant. Our waitress was not friendly and didn't even give her name. We ordered the pig chips for an appetizer when we ordered our drinks and they were delicious! They took quite a while to come out though and we were never served the complimentary bread and butter we saw going to the other tables around us who also were waiting quite a while for their food. We finally ordered 4 salads a soup and a BBQ sandwich but waited 2 hours for the main course! Not once did a manager come over to apologize for the wait. Our waitress only stopped to bring us refills on water ( not often either). This is kind of a hole in the wall place near the wall. I've been here about 6 times usually around lunch time always get something different. The sandwiches are pretty good and it's not to crowded so you are not rushed. They also serve ice cream as well. If you are in the area I would suggest checking them out. Our girls were obsessed with these pigs. Our service here was slower than I'm used to. However the rolls with strawberry butter distracted me enough where I wasn't really annoyed by it. I had the sweet tea (of course) which was nice and sweet (a tad too sugary than what I've been used to). I ordered the pulled pork and pimento cheese with the belaires (which is a staple here think twice mashed potato with cheese). Everyone else ordered ribs with a side and were very happy with their order. The kids all ordered sweet tea, mac and cheese as the side to their cheese pizza. The kid's meal is HUGE! This place is as Cape Girardean as Cape Girardeau itself. It is on the river, it is old, it has a wonderful historical story to tell, there is great music several times a week, the service is friendly and fast, and and the regulars (a.k.a. some of the best people in the world) really know how to party. Come to eat. My favorite thing on the menu is the half barbecue chicken, although the prime rib (there's a deal on Saturdays I believe) is a close second. You have to get the broccoli salad and the potatoes are RIDIC. Also, try the hand-dipped ice cream. Come to drink. Saddle up to the bar during happy hour any day of the week and you will make friends for life.
