We stopped here for breakfast during a road trip back home from out of state, hoping for a nice local meal. Unfortunately, it was a terrible and deeply upsetting experience. When we walked in, we stood directly at the counter and waited for someone to acknowledge us or give us instructions on where to sit. We were met with absolute silence. Then, a waitress muttered "find a seat, just find anywhere" without even looking at me or addressing me directly. We went and sat down, but no one ever brought us menus or came over to help us. We just sat there waiting to be acknowledged. Right after us, a white family walked in. They were immediately greeted warmly, told exactly where to sit, and provided with menus right away. It seemed very clear that you are only treated with respect and served at this establishment if you are white. Because the staff completely ignored us and refused to give us basic service, we ultimately walked out. Driving through from another state, it is incredibly disappointing to face this kind of treatment. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and equal hospitality. We will never be back and highly recommend travelers find somewhere else to eat. read more

Wanting to check out other local breakfast spots led us to this place. There was plenty of parking when we arrived. The place isn't terribly big but it was fully packed which is a good sign. After a brief wait, we were finally seated. There were a lot of options on the menu which made for a tough decision. I opted for the sausage sampler. Our food was brought out pretty quick. The plate was huge! Everything tasted really good, especially the sausage patties! The cost wasn't terrible at all. They only take cash so that was a little unexpected. This was our second time eating here and the food was just as good as the first time: delicious. I had the French toast...amazing. My son got the blueberry pancakes (which could have fed both him and myself) and my wife enjoyed her biscuits and gravy. The waitress was very sweet and suggested the French toast for which I was grateful! The only drawback is the size of the restaurant. It's pretty small and really popular. After a medical procedure, went to try this out as have heard good things. Pancakes were good, but lacked a tiny bit of salt. Sausage was good, but needs more spice. Eggs, well, were eggs. Biscuits? YUM The server was so friendly! And helpful! It was a very busy brunch-time but all the servers were doing great keeping their customers happy. Would I eat here again? It is not home cooking when you use canned mushrooms and "processed cheese food" Swiss cheese on dry, flat scrambled eggs. Nor when you say that the fried potatoes with onion are "real" but it's just those little cubes of potatoes that you buy frozen. And then serve them cold. I used to eat here on a regular basis when I was in college over 10 years ago. I was in town for the weekend and made time to eat there for breakfast. It was in a bigger location/new building which was nice - and we didn't have to wait at all and I remember it always being super crowded before. I tried the Big Man's Breakfast because I wanted a variety and it was only 11.99. I got eggs, bacon, toast, hash browns, and the best French toast I have ever had - it came with 3 pieces. I honestly cannot believe how much food I got for 11.99 and how good everything was! I always order hash browns well done anytime I go to breakfast and 99.9% of the time they are not well done and these were perfect (wish I took a pic)! As soon as I walked in I was met with smile, seated, asked for what I would like to drink and my waitress will be by shortly. My waitress savanna came right after also with a warm smile and helped me pick what to order. I wanted the two pancakes, one egg and sausage. The pancakes were so huge so very lite and very good. The egg was cooked as I wanted over easy and even though I was expecting sausage links, the patty was so good and fresh not frozen. I could not finish the pancakes. Pancakes. Ohhhh, pancakes. I went to school at SEMO and a few of my best friends are from Cape, so I make short trips down there occasionally to visit and catch up. This morning we woke up really craving breakfast, but most of the local spots are closed on Sunday morning. What gives?! At first I feared that we might have to resort to Huddle House or Denny's, but then a friend of mine remembered hearing about Sand's. As soon as I heard "pancakes" and "hole in the wall," I knew it was going to be our morning spot. Two things you definitely need to know about Sand's: -It's cash or check only. Yes, they seriously take checks. Just bring cash for the sake of everyone. -You can smoke inside. You can go here expecting a great breakfast, but do expect to leave with your hair smelling like smoke (ugh.) This place was everything I wanted and more. To say it's a hole in the wall is an understatement, and I loved that there were a bunch of tables pushed together to create family seating. The people watching was superb, and the coffee (which was excellent but a tad watery) was served in plastic coffee cups. The menu is huge and they also offer lunch foods in addition to breakfast. But really, just get the breakfast. I ordered the Western Scramble which had eggs, onions, peppers and tomatoes. It was made perfectly and the flavor was awesome. You also get a huge helping of hash browns, two hearty biscuits, and meat of your choice (I recommend the sausage.) Do NOT leave here without getting pancakes, but get the smaller size because that's all you'll need. I promise you these are some of the best pancakes you'll have in your entire life. They're made from their own "secret recipe" and they're worth every bite. This place is so rough around the edges but I'll remember my breakfast for a long time.
