Excellent food and service. Alex our server was very attentive and nice. I got the Slap Yo Momma Burger and it was awesome! We will definitely be back.

The food was so delicious! Our waitress Emily was the best. I had the blacked red fish with rice... amazing! The atmosphere is nice, quiet, and cozy.

We gave The Southerner a try when we had an overnight stay in Cape Girardeau. Overall everything was good. The kids menu options were extensive and had very good sized portions. The catfish, salad, and grits were all delicious. My only complaint on the food was that my tacos were a bit on the dry side. I think if I had gotten the fish option they would have been better. All the flavors were good in the tacos. Service was fast and attentive.

I got the blackened red snapper and it was absolutely perfect. Flaky with Cajun spices and a great cream sauce. I've been down in Cape on business and really thought it was like a Cracker Barrel. Was completely wrong. Good food and a well apportioned bar with a nice bourbon and rye selection.

Great little find in Cape! Excellent service, quick, clean. Delicious southern food with a twist!

    Fried green tomatoes

Winner: fried green tomatoes-perfectly coated and fried and the remoulade was spot on Everything else was pretty decent. The service was amazing. She was so nice and had great suggestions and was very prompt. The deviled eggs were good but also some had weird flavors. The pimento cheese they used was perfectly creamy with a good tang. My shrimp and grits was...okay. It did have this delicious tangy relish on it that made the whole dish come together-wish it had more relish. Overall a good meal and drinks were good too. It really threw me off that it was inside of a Drury Inn.

Dress as classy or as casual as you want. Great intimate restaurant. It was pretty dark inside so reading the menu without a light can be a challenge. I only got a picture of the relish tray because I didn't want to annoy my neighboring diners with my camera flash. I was in town for an expo and ate the Southerner Cobb salad two days in a row. Loved this salad!! The dressing was a buttermilk ranch dill. Crazy good!! Phil was an excellent server and the food was fresh and high quality!! I will be eating here again!

    Tuna poke bowl

Had the poke bowl last night, it was good! Fish was fresh, lots of edamame and greens, and the ginger soy glaze was delicious. I don't think it needs the cilantro dressing with it, unless you want a Latin twist on an Asian cuisine. The rice texture was more al dente than I prefer. I ordered takeout from my room at the hotel connected to the restaurant. The staff was courteous over the phone as well as in the restaurant. The hostess wasn't at the front area when I arrived, so I had to check in with the bartender instead. It was fine. I paid for my order and the hostess asked if I would like some bread to go with it. The restaurant was much smaller than I had assumed it would be. A few tables in the bar area as well as a regular dining area that could seat 30 or so people. For a large hotel attached, I was expecting a larger dining room. My business partner got the meatloaf, which came with brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. He said it was lovely, but he was confused with the addition of cheese in the meatloaf. All and all a solid spot to eat when you're a long way from home and are in need of a comforting meal. UPDATE: Ordered To-Go for the 10th or so time since I've been here. I always tip and have courteous service upon arrival. Today I was handled by the Manager. The guy had no smile and weird vibes. After I pay he proceeds to simply hand me my poke bowl container - NO BAG, NO UTENSILS, NO NAPKINS. So I ask him for a bag, and he gets it, however he seems put out by my request. I leave thinking maybe I can get by without utensils...but that's nonsense. I went back and requested some from the bartender. I have NEVER gotten takeout without being given the proper accoutrements. Annnnnd this will be my last meal here for the duration of my stay.

Blackened fish with cream sauce and rice. Warm bacon slaw

My food was delicious especially the pickle starter. My waitress was attentive and the sweet tea was delicious. The warm bacon slaw was amazing and the blackened fish with cream sauce was just the right amount of spice. Will return again.

    Complimentary relish plate.

Yes, we had a larger group but I don't think they should have caused so many mistakes. Many of our meals came out on multiple plates and not together. Some of us got our main dish with the first run of our food while others got their side dishes. One of our group got the wrong meal all together while another persons meal never came, when the waiter delivered the "rest of the food" and asked if we needed anything else, it was like um yes, another meal is still missing..... Some of us liked the main dishes for the most part but agreed the eggs, bacon and sausage patties were cold and tasted terrible.

This is the second time I've stopped at the CB in Cape over the past week and a half while traveling between Memphis and StL. and this is the second time I've received what I consider classic CB service! :-) The hostess (Janet) was super friendly and my waitress (Samantha) was prompt and even more friendly than the hostess! My coffee was brought promptly and not empty for long (critical morning thing for me!) and my food came out in a reasonable time and was cooked perfectly. I hope this is a sign CB has taken notice of the poor reviews and has circled back to their awesome Southern hospitality roots! Thanks Samantha!!!

When we walked in, we stood directly at the counter and waited for someone to acknowledge us or give us instructions on where to sit. We were met with absolute silence. Then, a waitress muttered "find a seat, just find anywhere" without even looking at me or addressing me directly. We went and sat down, but no one ever brought us menus or came over to help us. We just sat there waiting to be acknowledged. Right after us, a white family walked in. They were immediately greeted warmly, told exactly where to sit, and provided with menus right away. It seemed very clear that you are only treated with respect and served at this establishment if you are white. Because the staff completely ignored us and refused to give us basic service, we ultimately walked out. Driving through from another state, it is incredibly disappointing to face this kind of treatment. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and equal hospitality. We will never be back and highly recommend travelers find somewhere else to eat.
