EVERYTHING! Avoid this place like the plaque, at least the broiled Haddock, potato filing and coleslaw. Salad was mediocre. We had cheesesteaks that weren't too bad a few years ago but we will never return. My husband placed an order in person for take out, and as they brought the food out, they said, oh we are out of mashed potatoes (think they might have come out and asked a little earlier?). Good food, cheese steak sandwich was amazing. Ordered fries and wings, everything was delicious. Took a little long to get our food but it was worth the wait. Wait staff were average. Hotel was comfortable but not a hotel, more like a hostel. There was an old TV in the room but it didn't work, but after a long day of hiking it was nice to have a place to lay my head. Showers and bathroom are not in the room but there are 2 so it wasn't difficult to get clean. Overall was a good experience and I would consider staying there again. read more

Well, me and my wife stopped here to have dinner as we walked in. We did not receive a warm welcome. The old lady at the bar allowed us to walk all the way to where your post to be seated and then tells us that there are clothes, but as we're walking out, she's taking somebody's order to eat there at the bar so what I'm guessing is that if your skin is a darker color do not stop there and expect a warm welcome the old owners, we're nice and welcoming. I would not recommend anyone stopping there white or dark. And as I always say, have a nice day. read more

Just off one of the trail heads, this is favored by many hikers, in order to replenish themselves. We stopped in to meet local family and try their fare. Lobster bisque (delicious) Mushroom cheese steak and Molino sandwich (both very good). The portions were generous and the service good. First time in this place! Nice old time bar restaurant setting! Great comfortable homey atmosphere located in the Port Clinton Hotel across the street from the Port Clinton Peanut Shop! It was Taco Tuesday the wife enjoyed the tacos which came with a large order of Cheese Fries with taco seasoning! I had the Route 122 burger which had Hot & Sweet Peppers Mushrooms sautéed onions and Swiss Cheese the Burgers here are 12 oz so bring an appetite! We noticed other food items coming out even the small sizes appeared large and generous proportionally! This was a great stop on our travels today! It was busy, first of all. The waitstaff were overwhelmed and not very attentive. They seemed to be bickering a lot. We ordered fried clam strips as an appetizer. Overcooked and mostly crumbs. Waitress didn't ask if we wanted Tatar or Cocktail sauce. My husband ordered the chicken parmigiana sandwich. He didn't really enjoy it because the sauce was overly sweet and quality of the chicken cutlets . Definitely didn't taste homemade. Nothing tasted homemade here or special. I ordered a tuna melt . Lots of dark tuna with some mayonnaise thrown in. Coleslaw tasted like they bought it from Redners. I guess if you like a huge plate of French fries, this is your place. Disappointing. Not up to the standard I've experienced previously. Food has always been top-notch in quality. I had most recently been there at the end of May, 2024. Visited today lunch (a Tuesday). Waited for our food for 30 plus minutes. When food arrived, my cheesesteak sandwich was not remotely warm/hot. The quality of the meat was less than stellar as I had inedible grizzled meat/fat. Unusual taste. This has never been the case before. My +1 had the Grilled Chix with cheese wrap sammy. The wrap sandwich was soggy and therefore messy to eat. When the older lady walked up with the door dash she asked me the name I told her in which we both had miscommunication and she realized it in fact was not mine but the person who walked in behind me . The older lady asked the name of my customer again and immediately said " I don't think that's gunna be done for a while " and walked back to the kitchen . ANOTHER bit of time goes by mind you since I arrived I was told 5 mins and we're at 25 mins . I am not complaining or saying a world . No overhead music, no fancy lighting, no snappy staff uniforms, nor lit hostess kiosk, or extraordinary furnishings. But the main event was the food. Three words. A-MAZ-ING. The portions were phenomenal served hot. We had a group of 17 and the servers did a great job helping us. The food was just OK. This is in a historic hotel in a small town. It is pretty much plain no-frills kind of place that is popular with the locals and people like us - passing through. I ordered the "plain" burger with fries. It was a very substantial potion. The beef patty was hand formed and cooked to order, but was not particularly flavorful. It was juicy and the bun was soft, but still sturdy enough to stand up to the juicy burger. The fries are an extra and we got one order to share. The portion was HUGE but they were just OK and quickly lost their luster as they cooled. Service was very friendly and the food was brought out promptly. I was looking forward to a great experience, due to the number of personal recommendations I have received in regard to this place. I have heard the wings are out of this world and the cheese steaks are great. I opened the large menu and began snooping around the offerings. The soup of the day was New England Clam Chowder. That was ordered and it was above average. It had a good flavor and decent balance. It had a good amount of clams in it. The crab balls intrigued me, because it boasted a "homemade recipe." They were fried to a golden brown, and contained a good amount of crab meat inside, with very little filler. They were bland. Little to no seasoning. The wings I was excited for. The garlic hot wings were cooked to a good crispiness. The sauce was pedestrian, commercial hot sauce with jarred garlic. They were decent, but not anything to really report about. The Sriracha Ranch wings were drowning in sauce that was ranch dressing with Sriracha. They weren't very good at all. The house made roast beef sandwich was also bland. I topped it with provolone cheese and a lot of horseradish. It too was unremarkable. The au jus that accompanied the sandwich was flavorless and not dark at all. In fact, it was clear. I have seen darker chicken stock. The fresh cut fries were plentiful and very good with malt vinegar that was on the table. My son had a filet mignon, that was cooked medium rare, and he said it was good. He ordered that with homemade cucumber salad, which was just ok. It wasn't seasoned properly. My service was excellent. Very attentive and friendly. Overall, it was a decent meal. Many things were lacking, or just not to my standards. I would actually give 2.5 stars if that was an option. Stopped by today for the first time. Cheesesteaks were very good and the portions were excellent. Bartender can make a great margarita and played decent music, which is a plus for me. I'd always probably prefer to sit at the bar rather than dining room, but that's just our preference. We'll be back. yes the cheesesteaks are very big. but I had two trips with mediocre service, the second time my food took 30 minutes for chicken Parmesan. I had to ask for grated cheese. I traveled from Phoenixville PA to have lunch with my wife and her friend. They are famous for the French fries and their gigantic portions of delicious food. I always order liver & onions and today I was not disappointed. But then again I'm always pleased. The liver was tender and cooked the way I requested. My wife had a fresh cheeseburger cooked to order and her friend had a humongous cheesesteak with an order of gravy fries that could feed ten people. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. Went here on Sunday Jan 21 st I am from cape may county New Jersey and after a long week of snow work my wife and i and my neighbor and his wife decided to go on a road trip to cabelas remembering eating here the last time we where up that way raving about there food the entire trip. We get there my neighbor and I ordered cheese steaks and our wives ordered burgers and appetizers fried perogies and bang bang shrimp Our wives where okay with the burgers. The perogies were like leather to cut through and shrimp could of been a lot better. Our cheese steaks were huge I'll give them that credit but the roll seemed liked it was frozen and defrosted and fell apart and hardly any cheese on it and the steak tasted like it was kept in the bottom of the freezer for years . Was very disappointed and I would rather go to McDonald's next time than to stomach that again. I order cheese steaks everywhere I go and this one was bye far the worst that I ever consumed! Now to the waitress never gave a name blond hair about 5'5" glasses , she was nice I'll give her that but not once did she ask us how everything was until it was time to pay and I told her about the cheese steaks and her reply was nobody else has complained about them today and my neighbor and I just looked at each other.my neighbor did not even take his home to feed to the pigs. The only thing I liked was the roll it was very fresh. My husband had the Fish and Chips platter. The fish was the frozen battered pieces you would use to make a fish sandwich. Being from Hamburg originally, I've been here several times over the years. When I'm back in the area and have a chance, I still like to go for one of their cheesesteaks or chicken cheesesteaks and their fresh cut fries. I look forward to them! Unfortunately, the quality seems to be slipping, as the last couple of times the food wasn't as good. But my most recent visit was downright awful (day after Christmas for lunch). The cheesesteaks are usually served overflowing with meat and cheese on really delicious bread. Not this time. After a particularly long wait for food, it came out on a sad looking, dry roll (falling apart it was so dry) and the burger my husband ordered was overcooked. The long wait was supposedly because they were training a new cook. But people were waiting for close to 2 hours to get their food! The dining room is relatively small so this excuse just didn't add up. To make matters worse, the waitress was so rude in dealing with the situation. When I asked for an update she said "I told you it was slow" and "everyone is waiting." Hey, I just asked if there was any clue when we might get our food! None of the staff was doing anything to calm the frustrated customers, like making sure they had drinks refilled, or actually checking on the kitchen. I know the owner wasn't on duty this particular day, and I have a feeling if he were things would've been different. I hope port Clinton gets its act back together because before now I would've recommended it to anyone coming through this area. I would call it a neighborhood gem! Right now, I wouldn't say that until I see if this is their new normal or just a fluke. Until then, 2 stars is the best I can do. Disappointment Day. That is what I should call my recent visit. I was excited to take a family member on their first visit for steak sandwiches. But things did not turn out rosy. I have always liked the Port Clinton Hotel: the food was good and super plentiful, there was a rural tavern feel with a spritz of zest provided by travelers on 61 and wayward hikers, the big front porch allowed a view of autos zipping by and you could drink any Yuengling product. We sat at the bar and received a lukewarm welcome from the barmaid. 1/2 the bar was waiting to be cleaned as a bunch of guys had just left. 2 seats away was a local and as soon as she cleaned the bar she eagerly offered to move him - seemingly away from the revolting folks who who didn't live nearby (us). No big deal - we were having steak sandwiches. The barmaids pretty much ignored us as they gretzed about another employee, water line issues, how slow their day had been and a plethora of other insider gossip. Our steak sandwiches came - as big as they always have been. But here is where things went south. There was barely any sauce on the meat but there was a good bit of cheese which I did not want. The meat is really what set a new low. Instead of the realllly good sandwich it used to be it was now a pile of rubbery, greasy so-called meat. Taking 1/2 home, I figured I would give it a 2nd chance the next morning and the meat was loaded with congealed fat. Reheated, it was equally gross. What have they done it destroy a sandwich's quality so thoroughly? I should have chosen to clog my arteries with the hand-cut fries ( are they still hand-cut? ) instead of this nasty mess. I may return to the Port Clinton Hotel sometime for a beer and a prep for a Peanut Shop stop ( best real licorice around ) but I really doubt I will eat there again.
