So just stay focus, and get in line for the free ride to Staten Island. Also don't panic these ferry boats are insanely big so you will find a spot to get the views you want. If you leave from NYC stick to the right side and go upstairs for the best photos. Once you've made it to Staten Island without any wait, you get off and roll back into another boat (SI To Manhattan) and do it all over again. If you still want to see the Liberty statue leaving from Staten Island, stick to the left. From Manhattan to SI stick to the right and try to get on the second floor. If you want to explore what's around the area a short walk will take you to Wall Street, you'll see the bull and Trinity Church (where Hamilton and Eliza and Philip are buried). Also with going inside the church even with their very strict security check -- we had to even take Apple Watches which was a first but I'm all about safety so whatever they ask, I'll gladly do it. So if near Wall Street make Trinity Church a stop just like that silly snatching bull! ;)

I also had a chance to chat briefly with Paul, and he was extremely kind and polite. While I was there, I also saw him help another passenger by giving clear directions to the light rail, which I thought was really thoughtful. I've been taking the ferry for over 20 years, and it's great to see someone like Paul on the Lincoln Harbor/Hoboken route. Great customer service like that does not go unnoticed.

We boarded at 90th Street, walking through Carl Schurz Park. There are six different routes. Ours was the "Astoria Line" which culminates at Wall Street. Before getting off at 34th Street, the boat stopped in Astoria, Roosevelt Island and Long Island City. One can purchase tickets on the app, or through machines located at every depot. I was advised to activate our ticket right before boarding to maximize the free transfer, valid for 120 minutes (which we actually didn't need on this trip.) The one-way fare is $4.50 or $29 for a ten-trip pass. Seniors, and those with disabilities can apply for discounted fares. There's limited seating outside, with more down below. Also, a bar! Apparently, you can take your dog which my grandpup Hank, takes full advantage of.

My lane has stairs, so I had to use the side ramp, and there were no clear instructions on where stroller or wheelchair users should board. When the gate opened, I tried to check in my ticket, but a lady working the line pointed with her chin toward the regular line and ask if I saw it in a very dismissive way, even though I clearly couldn't use the stairs. I was then made to wait until everyone else had boarded. If all boarding lanes are not accessible, there should be a clear and fair process for wheelchairs and strollers. People with no other option shouldn't be treated as if they're doing something wrong or made to wait last just because there is no clear accessible boarding system in place.

Our car was vandalized at Little Man's Port Imperial garage recently, on both of the sides of the…read morecar and the back of it. The garage has a some cameras but has no visible security patrol. It is poorly lit in many places. The North and South garage are managed by the same company, Little Man, and they a lot of garages in the NYC area. We used the North. The unattended garages have no dedicated security patrol. We observed what seems like a playground for mischief on the day we found the damage -- groups of kids on bicycles, and even motorcycles (without license plates) cruising around the garage. Some seemed to check out the place and park for free. Cars also were observed to be speeding around the garage. Our weekend calls to both the ferry company and Littleman parking office were not staffed, so there was no way to easily reach anyone in an emergency. Just voicemail. We reached the office manager on Monday 9/23/24 who said no liability (read contract) and she will review tapes. We also called the supervisor (Carlos, 201-217-1683) to talk about our observations and concerns -- and the damage to the car. We left a message for Carlos with our number for him to call back about the damage. Days went by and we didn't get a call back. So we called the main NJ office again a week later (9/30/24). We spoke to the person who answered and told him we didn't hear back. He said he would contact Carlos and have him call us. Again no reply from the supposed, "supervisor" Carlos or anyone. It's been two weeks since we tried to reach him. There has also been no word about the result of the office review of the tapes by the garage salesperson who works Monday - Friday. She did offer to let us go through the tapes ourself. But that is not easy mid week and they should be doing it and reporting back. Again it's been several weeks and nothing. No word. No supervisor. The car itself was parked in clear view of a camera, although the date of the vandalism is not known since the garage never even observed the damage before we contacted them. The damage was only observed by us when attempting to retrieve the car. It seems they take no responsibility and don't even want to discuss our security concerns. This is very disappointing and very lacking in security and seriousness. The garage is dimly lit and feels neglected. The lack of concern by Little Man is very noteworthy. Of course they should take responsibility for the issues at the garage. But they have not demonstrated responsible behavior or addressed the seriousness of the issue, which seems systemic.

Aaah yes, taking the ferry home on a Friday that also happens to be a prematurely warm and sunny not-quite-spring day. The ferry is too expensive to be a part of my daily commute. Comparing the $5.50 ride from World Financial Center to Jersey City (Paulus Hook) with the $1.75 PATH ride between World Trade Center and Exchange Place, you can see why the ferry is the Rich Man's PATH. Or, the poor man's cruise ship. Even the ferry terminal at World Financial Center is luxurious, at least compared to a PATH station. It's floating, and has a little balcony on the water where you can soak up that precious March sun while you wait for your ship to come in. It even had a nice clean bathroom, if you can handle the motion of the ocean. The PATH can't compare. The ferry ride takes about the same amount of time as the PATH ride (7 minutes from WFC to Paulus Hook). But unlike the five minutes you'll spend on the PATH, you can feel the salty wind in your hair, and the sun on your face, unless of course you get the boat where the upper level has been enclosed. But, still, you can pretend your itinerary takes you to somewhere more exotic than your average PATH stop... maybe Venice. A tourist you're not, but remember that some people travel far and wait a lifetime to glimpse these sights... the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Colgate clock, the tallest building in New Jersey, the tallest building in New York, cruise ships and tall sailing ships, all that and you can be home in time for dinner.

Eventually applying that elbow grease to your thumbs and using your noggin you should be able to put two together. Life is not that hard. Once you have booked your ferry trip to and from where you are headed, it becomes a breeze. That's when you can enjoy the fruits of your labor. Also the ferry picks up every 10-15 minutes so don't stress. You can make it on time! And save yourself from paying 30-60 dollars on a ride share app. $4.50 one way $1.45 for senior discount 65 or older And any child under 44 inches FREE! So now you know what you're doing, booking all the spots you want to head in and out of. I took dumbo to pier 11 with ease, no issues, no hassles, and no one lied to me. Cause I did all my homework. And for anyone complaining, the ticket checkers out front, sales people, captain and anyone else who was working with the NYC ferry system was professional through the entire process. Just an fyi they are watching everyone, no freebies, no one getting on without a ticket and if you do attempt they will stop you, but we're human and things happen. Plus plenty of NYPD in the area observing so if you need help finding a ticket stand or entry way they are more than glad to guide you. So enjoy the beautiful views of the Hudson Bay while you travel the NYC FERRY system. Remember it's a short ride but worth every dollar. So many tours selling tickets for 30-90 dollars just to cross the Hudson Bay with commentary. You can bypass the commentary and save 2-4 hours of your day with the same views you expect just by crossing from Brooklyn to downtown Manhattan. Dumbo to Pier 11. Like 3-5 minutes. Photo ops over!
