Last Saturday I came to High Point State Park with a hiking group called hiking with friends. It…read morewas my first time visiting High Point State Park. It was $10 for admission into the state park. Luckily the $10 wasn't per person but per vehicle. We hiked the Monument trail to the High Point Monument which is a 220-foot stone obelisk honoring New Jersey's war veterans, located at the state's highest elevation within High Point State Park. The monument trail was moderately challenging in terms of the path being a rocky trail and plenty of mini hills. During the hike it wasn't very scenic until we made it to the area of the monument. If you don't want to hike to the monument, there is also an option to drive your car up to the monument. Once we made it to High Point monument we decided to climb the 200 foot obelisk. I believe it is 291 steps to the top. So it was a bit exhausting to do after a hike but a few of us decided to take the challenge. There were some nice views from the top as well. Overall, I definitely recommend high point State Park. I also love that there are public restrooms and no porta potties. One thing to note is that the park enforces a carry-in, carry-out policy, meaning visitors must take all their trash and recycling with them when they leave. I did not see any trash cans at the state park so the policy makes sense.

I visited during the first weekend of January with my girlfriend and spent two nights at the High Point Mountain Motel just outside the park boundaries. We first visited the park headquarters where we were able to get information and maps, then we did the 3.5 mile Monument Trail. The following morning we did a longer hike, a portion of the Iris Trail and then looped back on a section of the Appalachian Trail, the famed trail that goes from Georgia all the way to Maine. Both hikes provided beautiful views, were moderately challenging, and because it was 25 degrees in January, we had the woods almost entirely to ourselves for the duration of both hikes. We loved our time in this park and definitely want to come back in warmer weather to camp at one of the campgrounds and do more hiking.

It's a beautiful landscape that lays host to many event including the 4th of July fireworks. A great place to relax, have a picnic or just relax among nature. It's a beautiful park that is very well kept. The staff keeps it very clean and well maintained. The bathrooms are pretty clean, the staff friendly and it is dog friendly. It also has the Arboretum connected to it. It is a nice hidden treasure of the Campbell Hall and Montgomery area.

It's easy to moderate (there are stairs) and well shaded by trees. There's also a historic ruin of what was once a wool mill. There was ample parking, and it was not crowded during a summer week day. I highly recommend. Having visited most of the falls in the area this is in my top few favorites.

There are no signs so...... look for the "Town of Warwick Sports Complex" sign (it's across from the "Warwick Town Park") and follow the signs to the Lacrosse Field. In other words, when you take the turn for the Sports Complex, you'll need to go behind the baseball field (the roads veers to the left), you'll pass the hockey rink on your right, then you'll see the dog park on your right, across the way from the lacrosse field. I would recommend going to a different dog park where others do not treat people so poorly and where your dogs can play freely.

The people here are mostly very friendly, although I have been warned that there are a few "poop zealots ", and by that they mean if you don't clean up after your dog immediately, you may be barred from this park! So far We have not encountered this , and I do clean up after my dog. That said, the park is clean, and well groomed. No running water, but each time we've been there, large jugs of fresh water are all around for your convenience. There is a beautiful area in the back with large shade trees, pavers and benches. This is a wonderful place to bring your dog!
