UPDATED REVIEW I…read morefeel for Patricia L., and empathize. After we moved our kitty to another vet (Metropolitan Veterinary Center, 15th and Michigan) in July 2024, we found out the poor creature had very bad kidney stones and possible diabetes. As much as Dr Jeremy Williams examined her, he NEVER said anything to the effect that we should take her for kidney screening after she had multiple UTIs. We took urinalysis tests and other screenings. We had to switch her to kidney food by Hill's Science at some point, and control her blood sugar. In July of THIS year she became sick again with an infection, and the emergency vet did a lot of VERY expensive tests and found SO many things we did not find, not even the 'new' vet! I think the ER doc wondered what the old vet was even doing that they didn't find this many problems. I don't think this location nor the Stony Island location has the equipment to find anything serious. We had to put her down as all the problems she had at such an advanced age (15 or so) would have made her quality of life so poor. If we had moved her to the other vet sooner I am 99% sure we would have avoided more pain and discomfort for her. Avoid this place if at all possible, here AND Stony Island. We are hoping their certification becomes revoked!

All these corporations buying up neighborhood Veterinary practices look all sparkly and shiny....but the prices triple, they constantly try to "upsell" you, meanwhile they can't manage to follow up on a simple lab report. Not a good look.

I have been using Hyde Park Bark as a cat sitting service for more than two years while traveling…read moreout of town. After four scheduled cat sitting services (for 1-2 weeks at a time), I have been thoroughly pleased with ALL of their employees, the high level of communication, the friendliness and the reliability! I am so grateful that they are in Hyde Park and a local business. A few things I've noticed: 1) I get updates with photos and a narrative for every visit. I usually schedule 2 visits every day that I'm gone. 2) No matter which employee visits, I understand from the narrative report that they have read the instructions, and the comments that I've left. For example, this summer, the temperature reached 100 degrees outside, but I had forgotten to turn on the A/C. After leaving a comment to ask that it be put on energy save an set to 72, the next sitter did just that, and sent me photos to verify the settings. This put me completely at ease while being away during a dangerous heatwave. 3) My cats need medication and a special feeding schedule; my instructions are followed and this also helps me feel at ease that the kitties are fine for extended absences. 4) If I need to extend my trip, the online scheduling system is easy to update and I know that I won't have to scramble to find an alternative. The onboarding process if you are a new client is not something that can be done at the last minute; I signed up before I knew I would have a trip planned, but then once the consult was done, it has been completely a breeze to sign up for vacation house sitting appointments. I have been and continue to be very pleased with the services, care, and convenience of Hyde Park Bark!

Another dog owner friend who goes there told me their dog was bit because the person watching the dogs was distracted and didn't even know a their had been injured; seeing the bloody injury photos is heartbreaking. I have reached out a couple times to get information but there seems to be all new people working there and no one can answer what they are doing to keep dogs safe. I'm not bringing my dog there again.

This is a wonderful small business in Hyde Park. They carry a good selection of high-quality dog…read moreand cat foods and will happily special-order foods for you if they don't have it in stock (I did this for a number of years for my cat with special dietary needs). They also have really cool natural treats, like pig ears and similar pet chews, toys and other stuff. If you feed raw, this should be your go-to. The owner is super sweet and helpful and organizes doggy social days from time to time, and she also fosters kitties from Hyde Park Cats, so you might get lucky and pet an adorable kitty up for adoption.

They are rather out of the way for me, even via bus, but they do deliver (but at times it is faster/more convenient to just go there). Due to their size they don't have everything we need for our cat, but they have stuff that the BIG stores don't tend to have: dried meat sold individually, Primal Raw freeze-dried, and Dave's Naturally. This is ideal for fur parents with picky 'children' (and much moolah) who don't want to settle for mainstream, high-preservative pet food. The personal service is a great touch, they have good memories of their customers, and they have been very helpful with us while we tend to our kitty's IBD. If they had slightly longer hours they'd be perfect, but it is what it is.

It's an added bonus that this is a black owned establishment that is on the south side. Caine will be attending for life. Thank you so much to the Woodlawn team!
