I will first start with the positives. The people were really friendly. Their Apple BBQ sauce was good. The food was not good! I got the 4 meet plate, came with pulled pork, beef brisket, sausage and chicken. We paid $60 and threw away over half of it. If you've never eaten Oklahoma or Texas BBQ, then you might think it's OK but if you have, you're gonna realize it was horrible. The sides were OK. Their baked beans were good. The mac & cheese was good. The coleslaw was OK. At most the food get a two star because you could still eat it at least. But I will definitely never eat there again. read more

Porters is great if you're hungry at Arbor Day Farm. They are about the only non sweet food you can get there unless there are food trucks. The lines are long and slow. While visiting the Arbor Farm, we decided to eat at Porter's just adjacent to the gift shop. We both love BBQ and the menu looked good. I had the brisket plate, and my wife has a special St Louis style ribs plate that isn't on the menu. We arrived at the lunch hour peak but the wait wasn't long, service was friendly, and the food arrived promptly. The ribs and brisket were both delicious, as were the side. The pickled green beans were a first for both of us. There were plenty of spaces to eat at, but wish we would have noticed the outdoor tables or we would have eaten there instead of the main dining area. Overall a very pleasant lunch. read more

Best BBQ I've had in Nebraska! No need to drive 3 hours from Omaha to go to Kansas City for bbq. Porter's is located at Arbor Day Farm in Nebraska City. I had the burnt ends plate with coleslaw. It came with crunchy pickled green beans and Texas toast. The burnt ends were tender and not too fatty. So good! My husband got the chicken and baked beans. Also got a cider sushi for the kids and a slice of apple pie. Sadly, they were sold out of their ice cream but their apple pie is so good alone. There is indoor and outdoor seating. You can also get some cider or wine at the bar. Would definitely make the drive just to eat the BBQ. read more

Porter's is located in Arbor Day Farm. The bbq is made on site. I ordered the brisket sandwich and potato salad. Overall, it was okay. The brisket was smoked well and started out good first couple bites. Then I eventually got to a lot of fatty pieces and it was evident the brisket is not trimmed. That was a bit disappointing. The potato salad was not my favorite either. The service was good. The lady at the register was open and honest. She let us know the pies are frozen and not made fresh in house. She gave a sample of the apple cider slushy. That was really good and made onsite with the apples from the orchard. read more

We came to Porter's after touring Arbor Lodge and the farm/treehouse next door. Before we even walked in the door, we could smell the bbq. We ordered at the counter and they called out when our food was ready. My friend had the pulled pork and Mac n cheese. I had the special which was a large brisket sandwich topped with coke slaw and Mac n cheese. Both the special and the pulled pork were delicious! Nice upgrade from the Old Pie Garden at Arbor Day Farms. The Pulled Pork Mac & Cheese was decent and several in our party enjoyed that with a healthy portion to share. Pulled Pork was tasty but the Mac N Cheese was bland and very forgettable. Unfortunately, I was intrigued by the Beef Brisket Chili Bowl and drawn in by the thought of some good portion of Brisket mixed with some good downhome Chili. That's when the dream ended... I could not find a Single Sliver of Brisket in the Chili ANYWHERE! The Chili, while having a little bit of spice had way too many Beans (and NO BRISKET) and to my HORROR, it had CARROTS in it? (banned in TX) And the Cinnamon Roll that came with it, would have made the Pillsbury Dough Boy CRINGE... Just AWFUL. I made a mistake. I had The Pitt. It's burnt ends with coleslaw; something I usually like. This one might have been good but it was room temperature. The baked beans were ok but not quite the flavor I like. I should have gone to Little Ted's, 2 miles down the road. I didn't eat there, but EVERYONE else was. Much larger menu also.
