Ordered the burnt ends and sampler meat platter. The burnt ends were all fat, very little meat. The brisket was flavorless and dry and the turkey was shredded, which would be fine but had no flavor and very dry. My sausage was barely warm but tasted ok, unfortunately I don't care for cold food. The young gentleman behind the counter was nice and polite, but when he asked the gentleman in the kitchen a question, he was a disgusted look for even asking. We should have been concerned with the fact that the person he asked had a rather long beard with no hair net on it leaning over the food. They make the slaw in house and I loved it. Has a light vinegar based dressing not the heavier sugary mayo one. I LOVED it. The meats were moist and flavorful. I preferred the Carolina mustard sauce. I don't love a hot bbq sauce and it was just perfect. The sweet bbq was also nice. The beans were ok. Nothing amazing. Would definitely return and putting this on our worth returning to list. The service was great, it's a seat yourself kind of place that's very casual a laid back. You go up to the counter to order and they bring you the food. Multiple seating choices and enough space for a larger family with littles (there are several high chairs). I had ordered a turkey sandwich with fries and a drink. The turkey was a bit dry but overall it was edible. Food came out very hot so it was fresh! The sauces were YUMMY. They have sweet, hot, and f'n hot BBQ. They also have Carolina Mustard and other sauces I believe upon request. Apparently the wings were good because that's what my husband ordered. We love coming here for the barbecue and the laid-back atmosphere. The turkey and pulled pork, particularly the Carolina, are delicious. We've been eating here for a few years and we've never once been disappointed. It's always hot and delicious. Never had a soggy bun or a cold fry! It's quick and I love to eat inside and look at all of the unique decor and search for a good laugh. It just gives me a small family type feel. Delicious food at a good price. I had the burnt ends which, per Yelp, are supposed to be their best item. Very unremarkable. No great flavor and fatty. A small portion. The hot sauce was also a big nothing. The cole slaw was vinegar-based, but tasteless. Not many non-fast food restaurants in Gretna (at this time) and without much competition I suppose it will survive. But not worth the drive from Omaha. We were fairly disappointed with our meal there. The sliced brisket was sliced extremely thin, more like from a deli than a barbecue place. It was very dense and absolutely tasteless. Their excellent hot barbecue sauce helped but the brisket still wasn't worth eating. The burnt ends were very good and tasty. The sausage was ok, nothing special just an extremely mild summer sausage. The potato salad was made with lots and lots of mayonnaise not mustard. Update from a year ago. Food - I stopped on my way back from Iowa as I was hungry and BBQ sounded excellent. I had a pulled pork sandwich and fries for $11. Pork was delicious and fries were good. Great mix of sauces at the table to have it your way and pickles came with the sandwich. An awesome meal and great price. Way better food than what's at the Mall! Beer prices are excellent as well ($3 domestic and $3.50 for craft brews). Service - ordered at the desk and they brought the food out promptly. Good service and nice people. Ambiance - restaurant is full of signs and license plates. It's fun to look at while eating. The bathrooms are still a bit spartan with graffiti on the walls, but I guess it's part of the style of the restaurant. Overall, a great stop for a hungry traveler and good BBQ. I have ordered take-out twice since the pandemic. First of all, none of the employees wear masks. The take-out is very quick, only 5 minutes wait time. I ordered the ribs and loaded fries. My husband tried to order the pork tenderloin, but they were out, so he ordered the turkey sandwich. Everything that we ordered needed seasoning; the ribs, the lodes fries, the cole slaw, the beans. I sprinkled seasoned salt on it when I got home and it was much better. I would rate this place as an average BBQ place, nothing spectacular or worth driving 20 minutes for. Pork was bland and stringy. Ribs were a 6 out of 10. I think some of the problem was some of the food had been sitting around a long time. Potato salad was plain but we added some of their Carolina mustard to make it palatable. Baked beans were lukewarm and tasted like they just came out of a can with no unique flavor. Staff very friendly, seating area and bathroom clean, food reasonably priced and delicious. They have pork rinds with rib rub seasoning. My boyfriend and I both got a 2 meat combo, brisket, pulled pork and $2 extra for burnt ends. In order of best tasting, burnt ends, pulled pork, then brisket. Excellent grub overall but an average atmosphere. When I go to a BBQ place I'm not usually expecting it to wow me but I do expect it to be clean. The tables were a bit grimy, like they had been wiped with a dirty washcloth. I didn't like the looks of the pop machine, so I opted for no ice (unwashed ice makers are famous breeding grounds for mold...thanks Robert from Restaurant Impossible). The chairs weren't comfortable, and overall I just didn't want to be there. If I go back, I'll definitely do take out. Now for the good news. The food. I ordered a "mini meal," which came with an entree, a side, and a beverage. They also have a la carte items and a bigger meal called the "maxi meal," which I believe has an entree and two sides. I was disappointed that there wasn't any mac and cheese on the menu. It's my favorite BBQ accoutrement. I opted for the fries, which were reminiscent of Runza but not as crispy. Of course I went with the burnt ends for the entree, and I have to say, I wasn't disappointed. Succulent, tender chunks with a deep smoke flavor and that distinctive purple/pink smoke ring. Devine. Tender but tasted like a pot roast. No flavor, no smoke flavor. Sausage had strong anise taste. Needed salt, pepper, and lots of sauce to give ANY flavor. Pork sandwich (pulled pork): VERY bland. No smoke flavor, at all. Needed lots of salt, pepper, sauce, still not good. Sauces: Carolina mustard: tasted like honey mustard. Hot: meh Sweet: meh (side note: $1.25 for a little bitty corn muffin? Even $1 would be pushing it) $18.xx for both sandwiches, incl 1 side and one fountain drink. Quantity of food great; quality terrible. Terrible!
