I'll round up the rating to four stars, partially because the people here were superbly nice. Very welcoming and friendly. After a fun day at the zoo, we decided to finally try Smoking Jay's. On this day, we took advantage of a special that was enough to feed two. Three pork ribs, brisket, two sides, toast, and cornbread. First, like every barbecue place, I like to try the sauce first. Good BBQ doesn't need sauce but a good BBQ restaurant should have it. Strange thinking, I know. They have two sauces here. Spicy and regular. Both seemed overwhelmingly full of, I think, molasses. I didn't care for either but favored the spicy (which is hardly spicy). Strangely, the sauce tasted better when paired with the meat. Imagine that! You get two choices for brisket, fatty or lean. We chose lean and it was not great but better than okay. Well seasoned too. Notice the nice smoke ring in my picture! The ribs? They were 100% perfectly, delicious, and NOT fall off the bone (which should never be for legit BBQ - a good rib has a tug). Bravo for great ribs!! The side dish of BBQ beans was pretty good, better than most, but there was something in there that was not to my liking (best guess, bay leaf... yuck). The coleslaw was alright. There was also a nice small side of spicy pickles and onions too. Overall, we will come back when convenient and get those ribs again! Okra is another side dish that we will try next time. Super friendly people here!

The service was fantastic and the BBQ was amazing! The sausage was incredible, ribs were great, rib tips were exceptional, Mac n cheese delicious, smoked beans were fantastic and the brisket was perfect. The gizzards were a bit chew but the batter was so yummy. The cornbread was on the dry side. I definitely recommend this place, good ol' hole in the wall BBQ.

When I saw this place I was very excited to check it out. Since I was new to the Omaha and just getting here from Texas. This was the first BBQ restaurant I visited and I must say that I was very disappointed. I like the restaurant decorations and the staff was very friendly. I even had the pleasure of talking to the owner and we had excellent conversation. From the discussion he convinced me to get a sample of most the meats and he had me excited to dive in. I so glad that I did not add the beef rib, because I can't imagine that would have been any better. Once I arrived home and opened my food the visual was absolutely disappionting and things went down hill from there. The meat had pretty decent flavor but it was rather dry (not moist). Everything looked like it was a few days old it really killed my adrenaline. Everything was mixed together and it just looks horrible. I think the owner should have talked to the cooks in the back, so they could have prepared me a plate that matched his hype; because the two were definitely disconnected. I always love to support small business but I can honestly say the I will not try this place again. Everything looked like 3 day old leftovers. I did not even try to finish my food.

Friday night and the end of a busy week. I asked my wife what we wanted to do for dinner. She was considering the options and mentioned having a taste for barbecue pork. My mind thought of more well known chains, and questioned if a local grocery might have something to offer. And I landed on Smoking Jays, which is located just a few minutes from our downtown Omaha residence. I asked her if she wanted to be adventurous and she said yes. We were feeding three adults. She wanted a barbecue pork sandwich. My son wanted ribs, coleslaw and fries. I decided to get chicken, which like the ribs, comes as a meal with two sides. The sandwich gets one side, and she wanted waffle fries. For the purposes of sampling, I decided to get onion rings and potato salad, and let everyone taste whatever they wanted. Our two dinners and sandwich meal costs $76. I was concerned about how much food would be given. We all ended up with leftovers for later and were full. My half chicken was packed with a piece of garlic toast and a square of cornbread, which I thought was a little odd, but I appreciated the cornbread because the garlic toast was very obviously seasoned with garlic salt. The onion rings were also a bit salty. They seem to be homemade and battered, so tasty but with a bit of salt with each bite. I tasted a waffle fry and didn't taste any salt. They were part of my wife's sandwich and she enjoyed her meat and the fries and said they were not salty. The rack of ribs were very tasty and very much "falling off the bone". My son enjoyed the half of the ribs he was able to eat at the first sitting. He had some coleslaw and I had potato salad for sides, both of which were fine. Almost sure they are pre-made items, but they were acceptable. The final comment is about accessibility to the store. You can only get in by making a right turn, from the right hand lane, on 13th, and to exit during the rush hour traffic, I made a right hand turn onto Vinton (you can enter this way, too, but you need to have a blinker on and be very clear about your intentions) and when you get on Vinton, you need to be prepared to turn right again to navigate back to the Old Market area. So if you are downtown and in the mood for barbecue, it is a good option to check out, especially to bring home a lot of tasty food.

On a trip and decided to stop here in my Mother's Hometown and have some bbq . At first the parking lot was bone dry not a soul in sight , but don't let that fool you ! The bbq is great and the owner jay has great service! Thanks again brother!

    Mac-n-cheese

$50 for a relatively small amount of food. Literally 2 small slices of brisket in our brisket order burn ends were all fatty. Mac-n-cheese looked like it had been made in dirty water and was sour. Brisket was tough. Pulled pork was the only decent item we received.

Where do I start?!! Called All Over Omaha for Beef Ribs. NOBODY HAS THEM. Found And Called Smokey Jays. He had them in stock!!!! So we Headed to South "O" Plenty Parking Space, Best in Hospitality soon as you enter the building. Followed by the rich smell of smoked Meats!! Clean Facilities with a Home Vibe. All items available on the menu. We didnt know where to start. So upon questioning the owner to the 3rd degree about his entire menu, which he proudly answered all questions with transparency, we opted with the: Beef Ribs, Smoked Chicken Wings (whole), smoked macaroni n' cheese, fried okra, and some fried cornbread. Currently the #1 BBQ Spot In Omaha and surrounding Areas. IMHO.

I have driven by this place many times and decided to stop in tonight. Had every intention of ordering BBQ but ended up getting half a chicken. Great choice. The chicken was outstanding as was the slaw. My Daughter had the chicken strips, they were okay, and fries, which she said were the best. Service was very friendly and helpful. Had fun looking at all the memorabilia. Will definitely be back to try the BBQ.

This is your typical small family BBQ joint. The food was good and the service was good. Pricing was fair. It's a bit out of the way if your staying in downtown Omaha but it's worth an Uber ride. If I ever find myself in Omaha again I would eat here.

Smoked Brisket Sandwich and Jay's large Fried Potatoes. Portions a little small for my big self. But it slapped better than it may look.

Most of the highlight was the various types of burgers and fries they had, so my partner and I got two kinds, and we both enjoyed our respective meals. I had the block burger, which was as good as I imagined it to be, with juicy patty cooked to medium and every ingredient needed to make a good burger. The poutine had a lot of beef gravy and cheese curds, which made the dish a comprehensive experience to consume, rather than just fries. The duck duck goose fries were amazing! The duck confit, cheese curds, mayo, gravy, and gooseberry gastrique combination worked super well on top of the fries, because they altogether basically made it a gourmet dish that I had to eat with a fork. Finally, the sloppy nick was seasoned very well, even if we got the vegan version, which used impossible meat instead of ground beef. It was still really great! Hope everyone who visits Omaha gets to try this spot! Their wall has quite a few articles that recognized them as a locally renowned burger joint, and I could see why. Since they can be busy, I would recommend people getting there earlier to secure a good table spot, if dining in.

Sometimes the specials do not hit for me, but that is not their fault. It is a seat yourself space, but I have never had any issues finding a spot, usually by the time you order, someone has left. Despite the space being crowded whenever I come by, they do a great job of keeping the tables cleared and clean. Service has always been top-notch for me.

My husband and I first visited Memoir for our anniversary, and it was such an awesome experience, especially for a special occasion like that. After we were done doing all of our (admittedly annoying) photography of the awesome ambiance, we finally sat down to order and eat - and the original amazingness didn't stop there! The menu is not gigantic, which I always appreciate - because I get overwhelmed by too many choices. We picked a few things to share, at the recommendation of our server (who was also amazing and made sure we had a great anniversary dinner). They even gave us a card signed by the staff wishing us a great anniversary! Those little extra touches are what really make a dining experience special. We had the Kale and Bacon Dip for an appetizer, which was DECADENTLY delicious. The dip was smooth and silky with a toasty focaccia which went really well together with the two different textures. And we also grabbed the Pork Potstickers, and my oh my, were those fantastic. Delicate potsticker wrapper, with tons of filling, resting in a carrot-ginger dressing that complemented the potsticker fantastically. We were already so pleased, and didn't believe the entrees could top the starters, but they were just as awesome, which should be no surprise. It was easier to share two entrees, because we couldn't decide between two. Our first entree was the Faroe Island Salmon, and it was cooked to perfection, and served atop an indulgent bed of sweet corn risotto that I still dreeeeam about. And our second entree was the Rigatoni Alla Vodka, which was a little lighter of a meal, so was great paired with the salmon dish which was a tad heavier. I would recommend either of these dishes! We were SO full at this point but we knew we had to get a dessert since this was a special occasion. We shared the chocolate torte and devoured it, even with our extreme fullness. It was so fluffy and chocolatey and DELISH. From start to finish, this was one of the best meals I've had in Omaha. The service was on point, the eats were out of this world, and the vibe of the interior is something to behold. If you're looking for an awesome place to have a special occasion meal or just a nice dinner on a date night, look no further than Memoir for all of the above!

This fit the bill so we walked over around 5pm one evening for an early dinner after spending the day exploring the zoo. When we arrived the place was pretty empty - think maybe two tables occupied, and the hostess asked us if we had a reservation. We did not, and honestly she seemed a bit put out for a bit. I kind of wondered if we were going to be able to eat in this empty restaurant, but alas she decided it was okay and we were seated. This is one of my pet peeves at restaurants. I know, I know, that there could have been a ton of business booked for later, but it's such a bad look to make such a big deal about reservations when the place is empty. Also - while it did start to fill it was by no means full by the time we left. At any rate, things perked up at that point and we all got seated, ordered drinks, food etc. and had a good time. The server was kind and thoughtful and the food was pretty tasty. I had the fish and chips and shared it with my husband as the entrees are a good size here. My six year old had the kids hamburger, though we did have a bit of a scare when the server said "your cheeseburger will be out soon!" we had a long wait on the kids meal and when she said cheeseburger I immediately said - "no cheese!" the menu item was described as a "hamburger" with no mention of cheese and our kid doesn't like cheese her burgers so that was a really close call. I sort of got the impression that server wasn't accustomed to kids, but when the burger came out it was right and even though she had to wait, my kiddo gave it two thumbs up. Overall this is a good pub style restaurant in Old Town. Nothing really to write home about, but they do have decent food and local beers which was all we really cared about after a long day at the zoo.

My go-to meal is the Reuben, which they are known for as the creators of the OG Reuben sandwich, and it shows. The sandwich is amazing; I don't think I can even have one elsewhere as they don't seem to compare. Everyone I have brought, whether my mom, grandma, or girl friends, has enjoyed every time we spend here as well. The vibes are immaculate, the food is spectacular, and the ambiance is always upscale and classy.

Our daughter and I were visiting Omaha from Oregon for a concert, but I read that the Orleans Room…read morewas the place that the Reuben Sandwich was created. It was phenomenal. We love a great Reuben, and the Orleans Room version is that good. It is now tied with the Goose Hallow Inn from Portland that we have enjoyed twice. The greeting at the front was slow. There were only three tables in the dining room, and our server and someone else were conversing in the bar area. After we were finally sat, our daughter wanted Rose by the glass. I noticed the price of the glass was $15, but the bottle was $28? So of course we ordered the bottle. It was a perfect mid-afternoon treat. The server Lainey, was friendly, but it seemed to take too long to receive the bottle of wine. The Reuben...wow. The corned beef was so good and tender. The french fries were coated and remained hot and crisp thru the meal. The 1000 dressing is house made and terrific. The Sandwich alone leads me to give the Orleans Room 5 stars. We were also impressed by the approachability and friendliness of the GM, Mr. Johnson, and the Exec. Chef, Brandon. The General Manager told us of the great history of the Orleans Room and the former President's that had frequented the hotel, which is owned by Kimpton. We will definitely return to the Orleans Room for another Reuben on our next trip to Omaha.

Everett's is a solid ten! At least that's what I would give them if I could. We had heard about…read morethem and were very excited to try. I'm sure everything on the menu is good, but we came here for wings and boy did they deliver. The house brined wings are Fantastic. We did the extra hot bubba, which is their extra hot sauce fried then grilled In garlic Parmesan, which was so juicy and flavorful and kicked the heat to a perfect amount where it was flavorful but not overbearing. We also did the cactus ranch, which is the medium hot sauce tossed with cactus ranch seasoning, also tried it grilled. Another solid selection that provided a nice amount of heat and flavor. Both were so amazing I can't even say which one I liked more or which one was hotter. The wings are huge, juicy, and came out well-sauced. I filled up after five of mine (my husband tackled them all) and took the rest home. I don't know how to say best wings in Omaha, since I don't live there and haven't tried enough places, but these were some of the best wings we have EVER had, period. And we get wings almost everywhere we go. Also---the hand-cut (you heard me) fries aren't to be passed up on. We tried with the garlic aoili, so good, and a huge basket for $6. Our server was great. They are always busy, so give them some grace. We came during late lunch, got lucky and got seated right away, and it was still a revolving door of people, tables don't sit empty for long. They don't take reservations, and I understand why. They have limited space and when full, you sign up on the Board, there is a bar next door you can also receive a buzzer and go have a few drinks while you wait. This place is definitely worth the wait and we will repeatedly be back when we make it up to Omaha.

Delicious food! Isn't that the most important thing at a restaurant?! Of course it is! Everett's…read moredefinitely deserves 5 stars on that category. More about that in a moment. In addition, our server Laura was great -- friendly, efficient, came back to check on us, refilled water glasses, prompt with the food and with our bill. The atmosphere was just ok. Some eclectic posters adorned the walls. There were a couple of large tv screens tuned to a sports channel. Interior seemed a bit dark for a sunny mid-afternoon. But the food! My wife & I shared a BBQ Pulled Pork and Bacon Burger with a side of Branding Potatoes plus a Fry Basket option #3 (asian). Each item was totally delicious -- amazing blends of flavors! I cannot give enough praise. Some creative genius (maybe several of them) was involved in cooking up this kind of flavorful delight! Highly recommend!!
