First timer here- I've heard of Portillo's but had never experienced this mid-Western delight until traveling to Orlando with the family. We stopped along the way! Normally, I have a great experience here so I'm not going to rate it a 3, which would be based on this most recent experience. However, I usually would rate them a 5 so we will go with a 4, since it is my first review here apparently. This time around, we ordered the beef and cheese croissant for $8.79. I realize the stock picture is all about marketing the item and making it look good but it would've been nice if it looked at least half as good as the picture. It really fell short though. There was plenty of beef so I will give them that but they really failed on the cheese. It probably had a few shreds of cheddar cheese on it. Also, the croissant was mushy from soaking the liquid from the meat. I don't think they even toasted it, definitely not toasted on the inside based on the mushy interior. I ordered it as everything which I assumed included peppers but apparently it does not and you have to add the peppers for an extra cost. That is my fault though for not reading the menu correctly. The beef was as expected just very plain thinly sliced beef. If they had added the appropriate amount of cheese, it would have helped the flavor. I almost added ketchup, oh my... lol This location is very clean with the typical 50s diner feel. Nostalgic decor all around. Plenty of booths and tables to sit at. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. I wish they had an option to pick up mobile orders through the drive through. You currently have to park and go inside. read more

After a great ride in Brooksville, I was pretty hungry and looking for a quick and cheap place to eat. Portillos was on the way back home, so I decided to stop by on a Wednesday afternoon. There was no line at the counter, so I stared at the screen for a minute or two, then ordered the regular Chicago dog (about 4 dollars), and the small chocolate milk shake (about 4.30). I paid by cash at the counter and waited for my order. There is a separate area to pick up the order, and it took about 5 to 10 minutes to receive my food and drink. I then went to table to sit down and eat. The hotdog was loaded with various toppings like onions, tomatoes, a large pickle, and peppers as well. The hotdog was delicious and the meat itself was plump, juicy, and flavorful. I don't know if it was beef or pork (or combination of various meats), but I really enjoyed it. It got messy with all the toppings, so I ate most of them separately, which was fresh and great. The seasonings and condiments accompanied the dog very well. Add the poppy seed bun was soft without falling apart. It was such a wonderful hotdog that I should have paid a dollar more for the larger version. The milkshake was also refreshing and delicious. It was thick without being too difficult to drink from the straw. It was chocolatey as well, and tasted like it came from real ice cream than a mixer. I enjoyed it on my drive home too! The attendant who took my order was a bit indefferent, but still friendly. She did suggest that chocolate flavor for the milkshake was popular, and I am glad I took her advice. The people who handed my order were also friendly and helpful. You do have to bus your own tables as this is a self service restaurant. The place looked clean and there were many tables, including some outside. Oldies rock music where in the background, and the place wasn't too loud. Parking was plentiful and easy. Drive thru was also available. I am amazed that Portillos serves amazing hotdogs and great shakes. The prices were reasonable and the service was fine. I am glad I tried this place out. It is the same decor you would see at the other locations they have around the Central Florida area. They have screens to order and we found them easy to navigate. Born and raised in Chicago, for me Portillo's is home the Cub's, especially when they put a Portillo's in Mesa, Arizona for Cubs spring training, so needless say I was more than excited when the put two here in Orlando. In my open Portillo's has the best beef sandwich, and or course Chicago style hotdogs, and Maxwell street sausage is fantastic. I just love Portillo's! I recently got an Italian sandwich and it was out of this world. Highly recommend asking it for it with extra sauce. I also got a side of fries, which are always crispy and very salty which I enjoy. I was reading their Yelp page before I read the review and it said that it had a "world fair vibe" I absolutely love this and cannot agree more. Highly recommend coming here, especially with family because there are a ton of options for people of all ages. We got the chance to go to Portillo's a week or so after they opened and it was... good. The ambiance and the indoor atmosphere was awesome, it really gave a kind of 'world's fair' vibe to it. Employees were super friendly and able to help us find the right food for us. We got the Jumbo Chili Cheese Dog and the Single Rodeo Burger! We also got the Vanilla Shake with the cake in it also. A true Chicago experience! The interior is themed for Claremont, but the food is authentic. Orders come up fast, but during a rush you may wait five minutes or more. But the food is the star! Italian Beef with sweet or hot peppers. If you have it dipped it is melt in your mouth delicious. Hot dogs are great but a Chicago tip get the Jumbo to experience a better snap and balance. Salads are large portions and excellent. The Chef Salad is the best but the Chicken is not far behind. I left the best for last. Dessert. My husband and everyone that I know absolutely LOVE Portillo's for their chocolate cake. EVERYONE is obsessed with it! Now, this is my first time at Portillo's and I am well aware they're known for their hot dogs, so my review is based on their Italian beef sandwich and speed of service. The menu is laid out ok BUT I didn't realize the toppings were all separate :(. So when I got my food, I was a big flop hahaha the bread and meant tasted amazing, however. I would've gone to order toppings but it did take roughly 15 mins (felt forever) to get my meat and bread. I was excited to go here. People in some of my online groups were so happy that this chain was opening restaurants in our area. My expectations were high. Driving into the parking lot the building gives off a good appearance and walking inside it is very impressive. The decor is reminiscent of 1950s/60s diners. The food prep and ordering areas are very modern with a lot of stainless steel and vintage signs. My order was a beef and sausage bowl. Well ... they were out of sausage. Several people in my group also wanted sausage based menu items. Very disappointing. This is supposed to be one of their signature menu items. The option was just to get a beef bowl. I like to checkout menus before going to a new restaurant. The menu beef bowl looked like a distant cousin to what I got. I know about food stylists. Other people enjoyed their meals especially their hot dog and beef sandwich. Perhaps I made the wrong choice. My test always is ... would I go back, Yes but would order something else. A piece of lemon cake mixed into a milkshake and it's the best way to have cake and ice cream imho. Can't go wrong with chocolate either, but the lemon is perfect for Florida summer. The lettuce on the burger was good quality but way too big, they couldn't even close the packaging. I loved the bun on the burger and it was great overall. I had high hopes after hearing about the Chicago one. But it fell very short of that expectation. Would I go again? Maybe but only if I wanted fast food.
