I always love getting food here. I remember as a kid always getting those hot dog buns with the poppyseeds on them. So, that kinda takes me back to my childhood.. the food is always fresh. I get two Chicago dogs and usually the Italian beef wet. And Auju on the side! Service is quick, doesn't matter if I do drive through or eat there. My order was taken wrong in the drive thru and when I went in to get it corrected they remade my shake but told me the didn't have straws behind the counter and made me walk to the other end of the restaurant to get one. I spent my whole lunch hour there. By the time I got my order fixed my food was ice cold and my shake was so thick I couldn't even use a straw. I won't be back to this location ever again. It's been a long time since I've been here but my son wanted to go today. There wasn't a lot of people in line but we still waited quite a while before we could order. Then when we got to the counter to wait for our food we waited quite a while there as well. The meal was just okay, it wasn't necessarily cold but it wasn't really hot either. The worker asked if I wanted a cup of cheese to go with my fries and I said sure but unfortunately it didn't really help the flavor that much. It was actually nice to see that they had a lot of employees and they were doing their best. It was cool to watch them making the salads, nice to see they're freshly made like that. Had a delightful dinner here before leaving town. The Maxwell St. polish sausage is so good, loaded with grilled onions and mustard. My friend needed to order dogs to go to take home, they were able to keep all the toppings and the bun separate so no soggy dogs! And you can't beat a cake shake!! Family owned Portillo's never had, or needed, a cheese cup. Have no idea what the Portillo's cheese cup excitement is all about. And the onion rings are now terrible. "Culver's" can get you some great onion rings...........cooked properly! Let's talk strawberry shortcake. No longer a go-to. Mostly just a bowl of whipped cream with some extremely pureed tidbits of "maybe", strawberries. Their survey on your receipt for a free large fry doesn't work, they don't send you a code and the restaurant will not give you the promised free fry without the code. In conclusion. If they are going to continue down this road of dismantling and changing the traditional Portillo's menu, then they can at least add more for the kids. Like mini corndogs, applesauce, etc. read more

This store is trash. I was in line for over 30 minutes and there was only about six cars in drive-thru, I had an order dispute. She told me multiple times that she went to grab the manager to come out. She said she was coming right out. After about 15 minutes I had to call the store in drive-thru and she acted like she didn't know anything about it. When I arrived at the window she was clueless about coming outside. I asked for a name and she said her name was Josie. When I called on the phone they said there are multiple managers but when I asked Josie who was the manager in charge she said only she was. I was passing through Peoria and saw this place. I love hotdogs so I thought I would give it a try. I'm glad I did because I had the best Chicago style dog that I've ever eaten! It was nice to unwrap something and see it picture perfect and taste as good as it looks. If they had a bell to ring for a great meal, I would have woken the dead ringing that thing. Had a late lunch at Peoria Portillos today. I have been to several Portillos all over northern Illinois. It was 2:30 and not very busy. Crew was standing around. Delivery counter was filthy. Tables were not wiped off. There was fries on the floor and the fries crew person just kept walking over them. No one seemed to be in any kind of a rush. On any other visit to a Portillos there is always a manager circulating on the floor, there is always a person wiping tables, there is never food on the floor, and there is a friendly staff greeting you and trying to make your visit one that you would want to return again. Not this location. No one working there cared if you came back or not. Perhaps a surprise visit by regional manager would open some eyes to what was a restaurant chain we wanted to visit. We won't be going back to this location. read more

Seventeen days later and here I am again; November 21st at 7:00 pm. I'm being specific because I'm hoping that the people working on this day and time will be coached to improve their service. Then again, my prior one fell on deaf ears. I was greeted upon entering the restaurant but that friendly welcome started and ended there. The employee at the cash register, we'll call her Britney, was unenthusiastic and going through the motions. Thanks Brit. I stood at the end of the counter where the food is picked up and found myself in the same place as my last visit. Employees in conversation with each other and no acknowledgement of me or the other customers waiting. I watched my husband stand at the cold beer counter for about 7 minutes waiting on a manager to serve him. Turns out the manager was working the food line so that the aforementioned employees would be afforded continuity in fraternizing with one another. Good news though, they did rhyme the order this time. The food temperature was better and still consistent in taste and flavor. That is truly their saving grace! The rest of it was lackluster, despite the upbeat music. It's always interesting how restaurants try to influence your experience with the sights, smells and sounds. It looks like Portillo's but it ain't keeping up with the rest of the brand. Like lipstick on a pig...still a pig.Don't judge a Portillo's experience based on this location. Try another one and I'm sure you'll get a fuller experience. P.S. Congratulations on being the first Portillo's I've ever been to in 15 years to have a messy bathroom. Ok so I really wanted to try Portillos while I was in town but I wanted to eat healthy so I got a side salad.....with a beef hot dog and cheese fries. The drive thru line was long but it moves fast. Everyone working there was so nice. The side salad was FRESH and the house dressing was tasty. I would get it again. The cheese sauce with the fries was OK, kind of thin. I wanted to get more cheese on each bite of fry but it was fine. I wouldn't get the cheese again though. The hot dog was pretty good. I had never had a Chicago style hot dog so it was an experience for me with all the toppings. I definitely recommend trying the hot dog if you get a chance. For fast food this is a good option. We have it in Florida so I'll have to see if it's any different down there! read more

Was a great place to get Chicago style dogs and Italian Beef sandwiches. Beef is still tasty and tender, although you now have to order the Big Beef to receive the same amount of meat that used to come on the regular size. Burgers, dogs, and fish sandwiches are good, but always served just barely warm. Now have to pay for gravy on the side. About a dollar. I order beef sandwiches dry with gravy on the side for carryout to keep bread from turning to mush. Gravy used to be free. Also, cheese sauce at about a dollar, get real, imitation cheese is cheap. Fries are well below average (always have been), order them well done if you want crunch. Portillo's dropped to average status, starting a couple of years ago. Decrease in quality and quantity coincides with Berkshire Hathaway ownership and the company going public. At least I had many opportunities to have the original Portillo's experience before Buffett's onslaught. read more

Just had one of the worst experiences I've ever had at Portillo's! Ordered a jumbo hotdog without onions. Got a lukewarm hotdog in a cold, hard bun. No onions (about the only positive), but also minus the sport peppers (which I wanted). Back to the counter to get it corrected...I thought... Ended up with a REGULAR hotdog with everything...including ONIONS...the team member correcting the error apparently didn't look at the originally ordered hotdog and didn't ask about the original toppings, just took off and grabbed another hotdog. My bad for not checking until I was at the table. By this point, I was just fed up!! Prices are too high for this kind of service/meal. Will be a long time before we return, if ever.
