We happen on it while eating next door at the newer Filipino place (former home of the German sausage place). Place seems to have a variety of stuff ranging from shirts, some no perishable food, and some books. Mostly what is in here is garden and yard supply stuff. I think it would be a good first stop if you need a shovel or garden supplies. Might as well start at the lowest price and if not found move on to another store. What makes this place great is the owners who are fun to chat with, helpful and overall nice people. A good business worthy of support.

We knew the store was about to close, so he planned to be in and out. Instead, the cashier told him, "There isn't enough time for you to shop." He explained he saw the single shirt he wanted to purchase and would be in and out. She then spent several minutes explaining how it would take too long to ring him up. If I were to create a list of my favorite stores in Portland, Better Bargains is one that I would deliberate intensely on whether or not I should add it to the list. It's one of those hit or miss places that has potential for finding the bargain of the century. Don't visit during peak traffic because the business is on a section of Sandy that is impossible during rush hour. The parking lot is directly across from the intersection of 102nd and Sandy, and traffic backs up such that it blocks the entrance. You'll hate your life if you get trapped in this vortex of parking hell. The store has several aisles of furniture stacked high with assorted bits and pieces, and the east and west walls are covered with a patchwork of bagged treasures that are preassembled and priced accordingly. If you are big into art and craft projects, I've found some of these curated bags to be useful. It's best to visit the store on Wednesdays and Saturdays when a 25% storewide discount is applied toward all purchases. For me, the jury is still out on this thrift shop because I've yet to find a treasure I want to show off to all my friends. Maybe one day!

Every 10.00 you spend at Box Lunch and the company donates a box lunch to the needy. The donations are also made on the local level - so here in Oregon they are made to the Oregon Food Bank. The company looks to open more stores, having up to 200 stores nationwide within the year. Right now they are at 20 stores, a worthy and lofty goal for sure! The store has fun items from Disney, Star Wars, Star Trek, Game of Thrones to Harry Potter and various super hero characters. They also have an adult orientated section with BBQ items, mixed drink items and other fun stuff. Great staff, fun items and a mission to give back. How can you go wrong by shopping here??

That could be pottery, clothing, art, furniture, tchotchkes, plants, or something else. Some get really creative with their booths, adding hanging decor or a fun layout. I had some sticker shock over pricing, but I'm sure there are deals to be found also. If I were looking for a special item I would certainly return here to search. And it's a great place to wander looking for nothing in particular!

This place has both new and used items. We buy stuff every time we go. There is vinatage furniture, new art, used art, cool little chakis, chairs, purses, jewelry, antiques, clothing and great vintage finds. So much more as well! Some things are unaffordable for us and some are more reasonably priced. We found beautiful wood shelves that are stunning and bought them. They were exactly what we were looking for. We got a cool industrial console table abd other fool finds. I have bought a few nicknacks that I like and new art when they had a sale. Street parking is easy to find plus they have a parking lot. There are bathrooms. I would say the one thing I dislike is everything is a final sale. I mean absolutely everything. So I have not bought certain things in case they could not work where we want to put them or we were might want to use. Also for gifts since they are not returnable and want to give my gift receiver's that option. Some staff are more helpful than others. So it depends on who is working. This a good place to go if you are cool with final sales. Theycdo have grsat stuff.
