I didn't think I'd have to review this place again, but here goes, back in the day this was the best resale shop, when the owner was present. I don't know who is running the shop these days but, they have extremely strict time frames for scheduling time to bring items in to consign, these hours are inconvenient for anyone who holds down a job outside the home during the day, and if you can't drop off your stuff within that narrow time frame, and pick it up the next day (same narrow hours) Oh well... you are SOL. I used to shop in there more often, haven't been in, in a min. because I have a day job, did go in a couple weeks back... meh read more

Give & Take is the best non-traditional thrift store in NoPo. The prices are amazing, the selection curated and always fresh, and a great combo of vintage and current. And consignment is easy and fair. One of my favorite stops. read more

I have been selling and shopping here for years. Prices are ridiculously reasonable with an effort to keep things moving. I go in weekly and love how regularly it's changed up. It takes longer to get an appointment now, but that's the same anywhere around town. Love the folks here and all they add to our community. read more

I would highly suggest against trying to sell here, I had a really strange interaction with the person working here! The person behind the counter was super rude to my friend and I when we came to do consignment. My friend had an appointment and I joined her to sell a few things, we made sure to ask if this was alright ahead of time. The moment we walked in, the counter staff person demanded we come to a specific spot (its shop, so we were just looking around at first, we were early to the appointment). I had a small box, a bag and then a large container that wouldn't fit on the counter without breaking things, so I left it on the ground. Whew, apparently that was the wrong move! The counter person was sooooo rude because of that? I don't know if she thought I was trying to steal something by not putting the things I was trying to sell in a specific place where they wouldn't fit? I had a few different bags and boxes and as I was trying to unbag and unbox certain items for her, she came around the counter and grabbed my stuff, and it was such an uncomfortable interaction and she was acting so strange, I just backed out and said "you know it's fine, it's fine, never mind!" And she refused to let go of my stuff for a few minutes! I had not agreed to sell anything at this point and was just trying to get the items out of their boxes so she could see them. That was the big deal- seeing the items so I was trying to help with that aspect! Apparently I just was too slow for her, haha. She rudely said "I'm just trying to understand what you guys are doing! (We're not "guys" BTW). I guess she didn't understand that I did not want to do business with her anymore because there was no way I wanted to have an interaction with this person ever again to pick up consignment money for my stuff. My trust was broken at this point and I attempt to avoid this kind of negativity in my life anyways I can. I suggest looking elsewhere! We weren't rude to anyone at this shop, I just simply put a box on the ground and that was too much for them to handle. People here were super rude to us though, and I'm not sure why! Your bad day doesn't have to be passed to another person. This whole place seemed shady. Business owners/consignment people act like this for a reason! Other people have reported not being told policies about selling their things here and the counter staff being rude when trying to sell things! don't let anyone swindle you out of your things just because they're trying to fluster you by being super rude!!!!!! I love love loved their Pendleton supply! I was a bit cautious when I first came in because I don't have much luck with vintage stores, but I adored Give and Take's taste and style and ended up finding much more than I expected. There were so many things my mother would have loved. So. Many. Things. In a nutshell, the shop was a fresh millenial take on late 70's esthetic, with a mid 50's air, and a classic 80's edge. It was my mother and I if you used a store to describe us. The service was friendly and warm and I would 100% come back in a second. ... turn the car around, let's go back now. read more

Honestly we were not that impressed after going in though I wanted to love it since I kept finding witch-sign throughout the store. Even the witchy stuff though was pretty poor in quality and high on the tag - like the spendy coffee table of fugly which is sort of spray painted into a wanna be ouiji - so you might summon half of a graffiti artist with it? The few things I found that I liked (not loved) just seemed pretty big on price for a resale shop. I found a dusty but cute bowler hat for $20 but I can buy a new one several places for less than that and I would not have to clean the hat. Maybe we got there on a picked through day but I expected more for this area. read more

I have lived in the Kenton area since 1996... I've always loved this area. I own two homes here and I've watched this quaint neighborhood grow. My son went to school here and now he is off at college and to see this business still making it along with Poises, Crown Market and a few more is heartwarming.... When this business opened I was so excited...over the years I have shopped there, I have bought many things and I've told friends and family about it. When anyone comes to visit I happily take them to show them our amazing local consignment shop. Today I thought.. you know.. I'm going to walk in there again and see if I feel the same energy/attitude I felt the last few times I've been in there.... I thought I would give this place one more chance so I stopped in as I saw someone carrying their bags in...to inquire of the days they took consignments. I was told it now it's by appointment only and she gave me the days. This same woman.. I know she's the owner I don't care what her name is at this point.. gives me the same look, she holds the same energy which holds attitude, a bit of entitlement and almost like she's looking down at another person. I can promise you.. being a flight attendant for over 25 years for United Airlines I seen this behavior more times than I can count, especially from women to women.. I walked out thinking to myself wow, that's right you own a consignment store so you have every right to be so inviting to your customers... Lol It takes some people a long time to understand the energy that you hold is what people feel when they walk into your store. I would highly suggest a check up from the neck up. When customers come in... don't lose sight of the reality of.. it's the customers who made you successful. All of us.. i'm giving you some insight and some words of wisdom you may want to ponder. I've also owned a few businesses over my lifetime. I can promise you when people walk in I carry a certain attitude myself. It's inviting, it's warm and it's friendly and I stay this way unless I'm given a reason not to. Thank you for the amazing invite into your store today.... Give and Take is a cute little thrift store with clothes, toys, books, housewares, a little bit of everything. They have some really nice new-looking stuff and some awesome vintage things, too. It's definitely got more personality than Goodwill but it's also fairly limited in selection due to the size of the shop. I also think the prices are a little high for used goods, but i was able to find some fair deals, too. They stock some local artist offerings as well (i saw some handmade cards and soaps), which is a plus in my book. The ambiance is comfortable, and the place is well kept. A Kenton gem! You never know what treasures you'll find here - I've bought everything from work clothes, workout attire, stationery, cute dishes, furniture, records and shoes. Super fun, well curated selection at very reasonable prices. I've also brought in my gently used clothing and home goods for trade-in credit. The staff makes it easy and quick to trade stuff in, and using my trade-in credit is easy too. My favorite part is that the Give and Take makes it easy to opt out of the environmentally destructive fast fashion industry. read more

I have been in here many times, and will probably continue to do so because I'm a resale junkie and it's in my neighborhood and it has interesting stuff, but I tell you, if you are the type who likes to be greeted with a warm welcome when you enter a small retail establishment, you will not get that here. I think one out of ten times I walk in someone says hi to me (and it's not just me I've compared notes with others!). I am always perplexed when a small business does not greet and/or show appreciation for their customers coming into their store. What is up with that? I've also overheard on multiple occasions staff talking negatively about customers after they leave. But I keep coming back, bracing myself for the cold service and hoping to rescue a small treasure and get out as quick as I can. read more

I had one bad experience here and it had been awhile but what happened today did it! I took a few bags of clothes about a year ago. I received a call in February and the message said they had a check for me. It was only $20 but it was my stuff they sold. Today I stopped by as I do not get to that part of town often. I was told that they SHOULD HAVE told me if I did not pick it up, I would forfeit the $20. I'm sorry but this is considered stealing. It was my stuff and no one told me there was a deadline. Last time I had a bad customer service issue. Taking my business elsewhere. Overpriced and unfair! read more

I consigned a pair of vintage earrings here a while back when the shop was just opening. I went back in to see if the earrings had sold or if I could take them back. The employee tried to look me up in their computer and my name was nowhere to be found. When I consigned, my name was only written down, not put in their computer. I didn't see the earrings on display so I figured they must have sold. The owner told me that after 6 months, the merchandise is forfeited: possibly given to donation. My problem with this is that I was never told this policy in the beginning. Otherwise, I would have made sure to go in before the 6 month mark. I wasn't even in their system so how would they know if it has been 6 months or not? When the owner got her computer system up, she should have immediately put me in there. She and her employee told me there was nothing they could do about it. No apology. I don't even care about the money because she wasn't going to sell them for much but it's a pair of vintage earrings I lost due to incompetence. It's the unprofessionalism, lack of communication, and shady business practices that will not bring me back here ever again, even just to shop. read more

Really cute store with a colorful collection of slightly-better-than-thrift-store finds. I went in to sell some clothes for my first time and the associates seemed really annoyed that I was there to do so. Their consignment options are kind of convoluted and the associate got visibly frustrated with me when I changed my mind from trade to cash. I ended up finding something I liked and she snapped at me that I couldn't do trade because I had already said cash and they hadn't priced my things yet... Flustered, I ended up paying cash for my new item instead of trading it because the associate was so visibly upset with me for not understanding their multi-level consignment policies. I used the words, "I'll just pay cash, I really didn't mean to make this difficult for you," to the associate. The whole experience made me feel super uncomfortable, unwelcome and unappreciated as a customer and I likely won't be back to shop, just pick up my consignment cash. read more

I actually cannot believe that I haven't rated this before today! I've been shopping here for a long time and am never disappointed! If you're like me, and love to buy things second hand, but hate wading through crap and while you're wading through crap finding that said crap is overpriced, then you'll love Give and Take! Because it's anything from crap! (I know, how eloquent). Every time I go, I find something worth buying. And I think what I love about it is that it's not insanely overpriced. The reason I shop second-hand is because I'm frugal. I don't think that everything you need should cost an arm and a leg. So when I find a shop like this with $5 dresses and art, cmon, it's a no brainer. In addition to being a great place to buy a gift (hint, hint), I also consign things with them for a credit to use towards new purchases. They only accept consignments on certain days now so call before you go to consign. And if you're like me, and got knocked up by your boyfriend accidentally 5 years ago and have a 4 year old, they have a play area for the kiddos with everything in it for sale. Cool new shop in Kenton. The couple running it are friendly, easy to chat with. Items to the front seemed more geared to women, whom I could see very happy browsing this shop. I'm a guy and still found/bought a really cool velvet painting here, so it's worth a stop through for everyone. Two frequent bus lines outside, #4 & #6. I like this shop because they have a lot of neat things. Prices are a bit high - but I'm assuming that when you take things in to sell, the price you get in return reflects that? Not sure as I haven't sold here. Lots of neat clothing - shoes are pretty terrible condition though. Like really really bad: but overall nice little shop. The staff are awesome, always friendly and great to work with. The shop is eclectic from clothes and shoes to art and kitchen wear. Although I find the clothing a little worn for my taste, I've found some great bargins and really incredible house wear items (like the fantastic lamp I found today for $24!). read more

Friendly staff, lots of regulars and tons of treasures. My children had fun playing with the consigned toys while husband and I searched for treasures. I found this gorgeous skirt for the summer and it was only $8 bucks. They had lots of amazing shoes, but didn't have my size 9.5. They have home décor items and even kitchen items. I have to return the next time I get paid. At the check out counter you will find lots of jewelry and fairly priced. The staff was very nice and friendly, even recommended a coffee shop in walking distance. read more

I have been a customer from time to time at this store for several years but during the last few visits I have noticed some snobby behavior and even some downright disrespectful behavior of some of the employees towards their customers. Today I tried to return a hat that I had purchased just a minute before realizing that it was too small for my head. The employee pointed to a sign that said "all sales are final" as he insulted my over-all character. I won't give my business to this store again. I wonder how businesses with this sort of mentality manage to survive while alienating their customer base. read more

I have shopped here probably five times already. This week, I brought some stuff in and they took four out of five items. For someone used to selling at snotty Buffalo Exchange, this was super exciting. Give and Take is the perfect mix of interesting and useful, with fair-to-excellent pricing. I found some cute vintage kitchen items for cheap! Way cheaper than the stores in sellwood or anywhere! Such a bargain. The owners were very pleasant and sweet. Lots of cool things reasonably priced. My friends Chelsea and Dave own this store which is awesome, but I gotta say I would shop there regardless. They have such a variety: jewelry, clothes, cute kitchen stuff, furniture, antiques and crazy objects galore. Everything is priced so well, every time I come here I find something fabulous and well within my meager budget. I also love that I can take stuff here and get cash back for it! It's like free money! I love popping into Give and Take. You never know what you are going to find and the prices are super reasonable. Like the other day, I found a bottle of one of my favorite perfumes ($60) for $5. Random, but amazing. I'll never find another there again, but I'll find something else amazing! They have all kinds of kicky textiles, boots, and housewares, plus a decent kids selection. I've picked up a couple DVDs we wanted, books, these amazing Norwegian pasta bowls that the whole family is obsessed with, all kinds of bits and bobs of jewelry; it's a great place to come with an open mind and a smile. Employees here are incredibly rude! First they were talking smack about several of the other customers (thankfully after they left the store)calling them "weird" and making rude comments based on people's appearances. There were 3-4 of them behind the counter doing this, and they made no attempts to be quiet or discreet about it. Just VERY catty and bitchy. I should have walked out then, but i made a small purchase and the rudeness continued. No pleasantries were exchanged (not even a "hi" or acknowledgment). She took my item, told me my total and showed me where to put my card. She then told me "take your card", and walked away. I was confused--do i get a receipt? (No). Do i get a "thank you" (no) or "have a good day" (no). She simply walked away and i stood there awkwardly for a minute before i realized our transaction was complete. There are a lot of similar stores in PDX where employees aren't rude and don't disrespect their customers. I won't ever come back here. read more

I never leave Yelp reviews but felt compelled to write one for this place. Discovered it by accident (was lured by their racks outside).... What a great surprise! It's my favorite thrift shop I've been to in Portland yet. Really cute clothes and accessories, at great prices! It has the feel and quality of one of those higher-end "vintage" shops but without the ridiculously high prices. Everything is well organized and easy to find. Nice fitting rooms too, with plenty of room to move around (sometimes fitting rooms are like closets!) I'm in Portland every other weekend so I'll definitely be back :) read more
