    grooming damage to dog

Groomed my Schnoodle for first time today. I didn't notice until we were home a while that he had a raw patch of skin bigger than a quarter on his lower underbelly. He is frantically licking it. He is also missing a small but slightly bloody nick on his rear end. This has never happened anywhere before. I asked before we left how he behaved and the groomer said he was perfect, so it wasn't caused by him misbehaving as she groomed. Of course we will never go there again!

We were very pleased with Luna's visit to the beauty shop. She is 11 with poor hips and the staff were very sensitive and respectful to us telling them to be gentle. They said they lifted her out of the bath as opposed to making her jump. Not sure why there are any poor rating on the establishment because we had a very pleasant experience! She came home completely dry which makes very happy husky parents! I highly recommend a visit to Portland Pampered Pets!

What a wonderful place! I walked in on a Saturday afternoon and get a nail trim for my elderly chihuahua and was served immediately and only charged $5.00! The young person who helped me did an excellent job.

AFTER. This is literally taken 1 block away from pampered pets. I didn't even realize they SHAVED HER until we got in the car

!!!!DO NOT TAKE YOUR LARGE DOGS HERE TO BE GROOMED!!!! If I could leave a negative star I would. My (normally!) beautiful golden retriever looks absolutely RIDICULOUS!! I wish I would have looked at the reviews before taking her here... Dianne asked if I wanted a trim, and I said yes! Because she rolls and her hair gets a little crazy. NEVER did I expect I was going to have my dog returned 1/2 way shaved!! Not only is the cut actually SO ridiculously awful-- but it took 5 HOURS. I had an appointment set at 12:30 and she wasn't done until after 5pm!! She was kept in a kennel the entire time. When I walked her to the car she went potty FOUR TIMES!! I had my husband come and check on her on his way home from work at 3pm and she wasn't done. I had to pick her up WAY into the evening. I am so upset. I cannot believe this was $60. There's absolutely no excuses for why my dog has been hacked up so poorly. It's easily going to take a year for her hair to grow back. The ONLY positive is that her hair is soft and it smells nice.....

Amber always does such a wonderful job on my little mini poodle mix Lambert and he is absolutely in love with her. He gets so excited every time he gets to see her and always comes back happy, relaxed and looking gorgeous.

I absolutely recommend this place for dog grooming. The groomer was Chelsea and she was so kind and nice to my dog.

    Post PPP haircut :)

I've been bringing my mini schnauzer here for 7 years now. They do a great job on her cut and nails and receive her so sweetly. They're also the most affordable place and a small business. :)

First time great. Second time okay. Third time my dog comes back looking like a naked mole rat! I asked for a medium teddy bear cut (she didn't know what that was), then said half an inch shaved, I said no not that much, she said okay, and then I get my dog back with probably 1/4 inch of hair back. She also said he would be done by 4pm and didn't call us till 6pm. My dog is visibly shaken too. He was super dehydrated and really scared all night. We won't be going back...Also bring you dollar bills to pay cause they always make it awkward that you tip them so give exact cash.

    Odin getting his cut

My super hair-ball dog needed a cut. He was panting all the time 'cause he was always so hot... so off Odin went to get his first cut. He took most of the day... poor guy. And poor staff - it was quite the challenge. Since his hair had grown so long, it was knotted all over the place... his legs and ears especially. What can I say? I have a dread-dog. These guys did a great job of getting Odin all cleaned up. For a measly $55, we had a dog that was without knots in his hair - and smelled good to boot. I would say that I didn't much like the fluffy head he had (the hair was a touch too long)... but other than that, it was a pretty sweet deal. I'd definitely suggest taking your pooch over to Portland Pampered Pets.

TL;DR - Our dog was misdiagnosed by one of the doctors at Brooklyn Yard, which led to a cancerous tumor growing for months. It was not responsive to any kind of treatment by the time she was properly diagnosed, and my sweet girl has since passed. I discovered a new lump on my dog in early December, and the doctor did a fine needle aspiration. Instead of sending it to a pathologist, she assumed it was a lipoma given my dog's history and the fact she couldn't see any "cellular activity." This led countless back and forth visits to Brooklyn Yard, and their urgent care, Spruce, along with thousands spent in testing and imaging. For months, they led us in circles, insistent it wasn't cancer, despite my poor girl presenting so many symptoms that I now know are common for mast cell tumors. All it took to properly diagnose my dog was another fine needle aspiration, which a specialist sent to a pathologist. This is what Brooklyn Yard should have done to begin with. By this point, though, her tumor was too large and complex for surgery, and treatments like palladia and chemo were not effective. Also, when Brooklyn Yard first received the updated medical records and diagnosis from our specialist, their team called us, not to apologize or offer support, but to tell me they were canceling my dog's upcoming dental cleaning. They have yet to reach out since her passing last month. I am absolutely devastated and can't help but think how different things could have been if we hadn't put so much trust in the doctors at Brooklyn Yard. I miss my girl so much and will never be able to trust another animal in their care.

She…read morevisited my dog twice per day-my pup is shy and anxious and would not have anything to do with Betsy. To her credit, I did see that she was making progress with my pup, which is no easy feat. Betsy and I were discussing my dog attending her daycare because my dog does infinitely better in a group setting. In addition, it was convenient for me for obvious reasons. My dog has gone to daycare for the better part of the year that I've had her, and she thrives in that environment. Never once have I had a complaint or negative report about my pup's behavior at daycare. In this conversation, Betsy used a condescending tone to refer to my dog as "difficult ". I informed Betsy that we no longer had an interest in her services, as I don't want my dog to be cared for by someone who would speak about her in that way. However, that's not why I'm leaving this review. I'm leaving this review because of something I observed with regards to her dog daycare. What her dog daycare consists of is several dogs hanging out with Betsy's daughter, Amelia (my best guess is she's a teenager)in their living room/dining room/kitchen area all day. Betsy is typically gone all day (8-3:30) from what she told me. There is a narrow dog run, running along one side and the back of the house. The daycare dogs are let out briefly to do their business a few times a day. While I was a tenant there, I had to do my laundry on the third floor of the house, above the daycare. This required me to wade through the group of dogs each time I went up and down the stairs to switch loads from the washer to the dryer. Every single time I did laundry during the month + I lived there, I noticed that Amelia was never downstairs with the dogs during daycare time. She was always in her room with the door closed. I suppose it's possible that she went in her room each time she heard me coming, but sound carries very well in that house and I'm sure that I would have heard her moving. I would also have considered this discovery a coincidence had it not happened multiple times. My primary inspiration for making this review is the fact that the very last time it happened, while sitting on my couch reading, I heard a kerfuffle between the daycare dogs. It did not sound like a fight, just like the dogs getting rowdy. Eventually, things settled down. Shortly afterwards, I had to go upstairs and get my last load of laundry out of the dryer. While making my way through the sea of dogs, I noticed that one of them was now holding one of its front paws up and was wearing a plastic cone around its neck. I only observed the dog for a couple of minutes, but it was never once willing to be weight-bearing on that paw. I hope that the dog wasn't seriously injured. Even more so, I hope that this is the only time anything like that has ever happened to any dogs that have attended this daycare. And even more so than that, I still have hope that it all was a complete coincidence that the dogs were never being cared for when I made my trips up and down the stairs. To be transparent, Betsy and I did not have a positive dynamic as landlord-tenant. Interactions were never heated, but Betsy did tell me that she is a very sensitive person and perhaps her daughter is as well. She may have been encouraged/wanted to avoid me due to the tension between her mother and I, despite the fact that I was polite to Amelia each time I saw her and professional to her mother. Bowser's Best Buddy is far different from any dog daycare I have ever seen, and I've been taking my dogs to daycare for over fifteen years. It's basically akin to your dog being at home, hanging out with a group of friends, sometimes supervised and sometimes not, with a potty break or two sprinkled in. There are no cameras for pet parents to observe their pups. I've never considered taking my dog to a daycare that doesn't offer this and my observation here has cemented that requirement for any pet care provider we use.

I know that Betsy is partially to thank for the wonderful companion Gromit has become. Betsy is conscientious and communicative, and she is very connected to the pets in her care. She spends time training them in addition to getting them out to stretch their legs and go potty, and she adjusts her training and walks to fit the dog's needs and personality. When my pup boarded with Betsy, he was treated like family. If Gromit could write a review, he would say he loves Betsy and Amelia as much as he loves me, and he wouldn't hesitate to recommend Bowser's Best Buddy to all of his furry friends!

A couple weeks ago I came back to Portland to spend time with high school friend under hospice care do to cancer. I decided to bring my little dog Noah. It's a bummer because the 2nd provider we saw was knowledgeable and very friendly, however, the administrative and/or clinical staff dropped the ball, and I don't feel like things will get handled in a timely or accurate manner at this clinic. We were seen on Friday for my dogs fractured tooth, surgery was scheduled for the following Wednesday (we were so happy we could get in so quickly!) We were told that we would have the price estimate before end of day that day and that we could call Tuesday with any questions (the clinic was closed on the weekend and Monday for Memorial Day) We were also told that someone would call on Tuesday to discuss all lab results to ensure that my dog was a good candidate to go under anesthesia. Neither of the things happened that we were told were going to happen. After 2 voicemails left by me and about 5 calls to the vet on Tuesday, we finally received the price estimate around 10am (the procedure was scheduled the next day at 8am). The estimate was $1,300 more than the previous estimate we had gotten from our old vet in Vancouver, WA. We were not expecting that much higher of a price- so we cancelled the surgery as we felt it was being overcharged. My dog also had some abnormal labs come back that I only found out about because I asked that they email me the vet report during one of my many calls to get the price estimate. I called 2 or 3 time to see if someone was available to discuss the abnormal labs with me, which each time we were told we would get a call to go over.... that never happened. The first visit we ever had here was somewhat okay. The vet forgot to refill my dog's emergency seizure medication even after being told it was something she would do. So that was a little bit of a hassle, and we went a few extra days with expired meds. Not really the end of the world. Overall, nice-ish people working here but I do not trust that they will follow through on what is being said and that makes me very nervous with trusting them to care for my animals. There seem to be much cheaper and more reliable places to go to, so that is what we will do.
