I know the Portland Timbers best for their MLS Cup 2018 matchup against Atlanta United FC. It was only our (Atlanta) second season in existence and we beat the Timbers, 2-0, in Atlanta. It was a big win for the city as an Atlanta pro sports team had not won a championship since the Atlanta Braves won the 1995 World Series. The Timbers played Atlanta United in Atlanta at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Timbers were the MLS Cup 2015 champions, beating Columbus Crew SC, 2-1, despite Portland playing a road game at MAPFRE Stadium in Ohio. The Timbers set an MLS Cup record in that match when Diego Valeri scored only 27 seconds into the game (fastest goal recorded in the championship match to date). Valeri went on to be named MLS Cup MVP. Also, similar to Atlanta above, it was a big win for the city of Portland as a Portland pro sports team had not won a championship since the Portland Trail Blazers won the 1977 NBA World Championship Series (now known as the NBA Finals). Caleb Porter coached the Timbers from 2013 to 2017 and, somewhat ironically, has been head coach of Columbus Crew SC since 2019. He was a great coach for Portland. The Timbers' first MLS season was in 2011. So far, the 2015 and 2018 MLS Cups have been the team's only appearances in MLS' championship match. In those seasons, the Timbers finished in fifth and third place, respectively, in the Western Conference. Both in 2013 and 2017, they finished in first, but were unable to make it past the Conference Finals in 2013 and Conference Semifinals in 2017. In 2013 and 2018, the team had impressive 15-game unbeaten streaks. Overall, all seasons combined, the Timbers have been a middle-of-the-pack MLS squad. Over the years, goalkeepers Donovan Ricketts and Adam Kwarasey tallied high numbers of shutouts. Some of their single-season shutout numbers approached league records. If you have a group or company, avoid the Timbers at all cost. My company planned a celebration event at a Timbers game. First paid $7500 for 150 people. This was standing tickets only, no seats. Also no private area and there were tons of other people so very few people could actually see the field to watch the game. $50 to just get in to the park. Then let's talk about the catering, paid $11000, that's right $11k to run out of some cheap pulled pork and baked beans. Think $10 plate dinner, but paid almost $70 a person. Worst of all they ran out of food and drinks. Their way to make it up was a platter of $5 grocery store cookies. I've never been so frustrated and disappointed read more

So the whole harbour jumped out of a plane. We found the ships, and the shipyards, but where did the Port land? And a pig jumped out too, so where did the pork land? We're going down, I'm yelling Timbers. Well I am not personally a fan of Portland and while I'm not personally a fan of this team I do have to say that it makes me proud see that an American football team can get such a passionate following in a definitively nontraditional and smaller market, for that matter. But Portland is a real boomtown and it shows in the obsessive raucous support for this club. I've been very impressed by everything I've seen from the Pacific Northwest MLS and long may it continue. It's been nothing short of amazing what Seattle and then Portland have done for the league. They're now integral to the league and great rivals and so they should be. It's been such an organic rise to prominence (sorry if I sound like a hipster but hey, it's Portland) and I have nothing but admiration for them and their amazing support as well. The Portland stadium (Providence Park) is an absolute credit to the region, and it's the oldest soccer stadium in the country, and houses both the Thorns and the legendary Timber. It's a region that doesn't have many real big name professional sports teams and the Timber are one of the pride and joys of Oregon. They are also former Champions and when they play in the stadium it's honestly very hard for anyone to beat them. It is close to downtown and utterly amazing. read more

While not necessarily a soccer fan, I am a live sports fan and going to a Timbers game is so much fun! The fans, especially the Timbers Army, make the experience! Friends of mine have season tickets and we sit to the right of center field with the Army to our right. Our seats are comfortable with lots of leg room. As an added perk, we get free water, snacks - popcorn, ice cream, crackerjacks, hot dogs! The new stadium itself is modern and beautiful. From the outside it looks small but once inside, the views are expansive. I spend most of my time watching the Army, amazed that they stand the entire time, belting out songs and chants. Actually, the Army lines up hours, sometimes even the night before, to get there early and secure the best seats. And they never sit, they stand the entire duration of the game. That is dedication! However, the MAX runs right out front so you can easily park elsewhere and grab a ride to the front gates. Food prices are high, but this to be expected at a professional sporting arena. I am from the east coast, and this was my first ever Timbers game. I was so excited to see the famous Portland Timbers play. My friends and I were sitting in the General Admission seating and were at the very top. We were basically out of sight of everyone and were just relaxing and having a good time. However, one of our friends finally found parking and found us at the top. He came up the stairs wearing a "Seattle Sounders" jersey. He got a couple of boos, but we were at the top and were not bothering anyone. A couple minutes later, a security guard came all the way to the top and told my friend that he had to leave because he was wearing a (green...mind you) Seattle jersey. My friend was not causing a scene, and was not wanting any trouble. My friend also asked if he could just put on his black sweatshirt because he didn't mean any trouble. The security guard rudely replied no and seemed to have wanted to make a scene. My friend (who paid for that ticket) was trying to cooperate, and even offered to buy a Timbers shirt just so he could experience this game with us. The security guard was absolutely closed to any sign of cooperation. It not only was embarrassing and sad for my friend, but for us as well. In fact, the security guard was smiling and laughing and seemed to ENJOY that he was openly embarrassing my friend. Although he wasn't "kicked out of the game," he was assigned to another section all the way across the stadium. He was embarrassingly exiled in front of hundreds (maybe even a thousand) fans after we were just wanting to enjoy a supposed famous Timbers game. My time in Portland was severely tainted by this experience. Apparently, there is some rule saying that wearing other team's "colors" isn't allowed, but obviously it isn't emphasized enough. In fact, the Timbers were playing the White Caps. My friend was wearing a THIRD PARTY TEAM JERSEY. Why did no one say anything when he entered? We are all from out of state and did not mean any harm. We felt that all of our money was wasted because of that experience that could have been prevented. To make matters worse, my phone did not have service (unfortunately my phone provider isn't great in downtown Portland). The security guard could have also done it in a more discreet way to not humiliate my friend in the way that he did, but clearly he had other motives. I do not plan on attending another Timbers game in my time here, and I would not recommend it to others, and that is a shame. read more

What a great place to watch a soccer match! My compadres and I were smack dab in the middle of the Timbers Army back in April and had a really great time! I appreciate what my friend had to do in regards to securing tickets and seats for the match. I had no idea the hoops Timbers Army ticket holders have to jump through by lining up at the stadium the day before (or day of) the match to get wristbands so you can sit in the general admission/Timbers Army section. Then on match day you hustle to get to your preferred seats and save them for your friends. It reminds me when we used to send pledges down to Husky Stadium to save seats for the upperclassmen! I really like that they play in repurposed Providence Park which was formerly known as PGE Park - the former home of the PCL Portland Beavers Baseball Club. The grandstand really amplifies the cheering! Only negative for me is security which I would give one star because there was a guy in my row that had a large folded knife hanging outside of his vest. Snagged a pair of Timbers Army tickets and decided to check it out for the first time. Even though I'm not a huge soccer fan, I got completely on board with the game experience and I had a blast. The Army's a great group and the chants are wild and hilarious. The Tetris chant is hilarious and the others are very unique. I dig the tributes the Army makes to several foreign clubs whose chants inspired their own. Sat in Section 103 (or the 103rd Ballistic Unit as they call it) and got to participate in a beautiful tifo display against homophobia. Great classy touch to the game! Timbers won 3-0 as well so there was plenty to cheer for, and the stadium's reaction to goals are amazing...green smoke everywhere. The singing, cheering, jeering, chanting, the revelry of it all creates an unique experience. Forget that it is a sporting event, as it seems that a majority of the fans are there for the European or more Worldly Soccer/Football experience. The Timbers Army is where I've sat for the 3 games I've been able to make, and the group is as friendly as they are intense. If you ever get the chance to go to one of the Timber's game do not pass up the opportunity. The inside of the stadium is a complete surprise; it looks small from the outside but is expansive once you are in the stadium. Seating is very comfortable with enough space that your knees are not under your chin (if you have ever been to a Red Sox game in Boston you know what I mean). I am reviewing your camps for youths. I tried to register my grandson ( who has gone for 3 yrs straight to the camps) but this year was a real issue. It was a new person in charge who obviously did not know what they were doing and never apologized. I wanted him half day goalie and half day regular camp as they usually do. This year is was listed as 2 seperate camps. Half day goalie, and full days regular camp which are ages 4 to whatever. The past 3 years he has gone to regular game which really practices skill, and you are mixed with young ones ( he is 22 this year). I was told he could do half day goalie then 2nd half regular, but I would have to pay for both camps even thought he was attending half day of regular camp. Then I see this online, which is what I wanted. I sent this to the person in charge Oct 3rd, and stated what happened, still no reply. Apparently they done care, don't know their business, or just don't want repeat players. I will be sending elsewhere. If you are looking for a cheaper daycare, this is a great camp. This is my email and their ad. This is what I was trying to register Caden for this summer. I was told I would have to pay for the half day camp for goalies, then a full day camp so he could do regular soccer the 2nd half, meaning I would be paying for 1 and a half camps, yet he would only go to 1. I think you need to get your information straight, because what you advertise and what I was told totally different, it had me looking at other camps, even though he has gone to yours for 3 yrs. After this I will look elsewhere for sure. This is straight off your website These camps are split up into 2 parts. The first half of the camp consists of drills that pertain to the position your camper is interested in. Goalkeepers will train in their own groups based on age and skill level, and strikers will train in their own groups based on age and skill level.
