I have been to the Portofino's on Park Road and thought it was okay for what it was. This Portofino's is better. I came here on a Saturday night for some good eggplant parmesan. As soon as I walked in, I noticed the place was packed. Folks gathered at the takeout counter and folks waited to be seated. It didn't take long to realize it was organized chaos as I sat less than 2 minutes after walking in. The dining area was also full, but that did not stop the waitress from promptly addressing me and getting the ball rolling on my order. I ordered a glass of Zinfindel, eggplant parmesan without mozzarella and spaghetti marinara. Everything came out piping hot and was really good. The only thing I would have done differently is put breadcrumbs on the eggplant instead of the batter to give it a better texture and some fresh basil chiffonade for flavor. Other than that, everything was wonderful. When I was ready to leave, she efficiently brought my check, and I was able to get out without much ado. The server was alright. She wasn't rude or anything but we ordered to go after getting salads. We called to let them know our order was wrong and we were hung up on. So we drove back to the location letting them check the order. We had absolutely NO SAUCE && we ordered pasta!!! When we got there the man with the bald head and loud mouth yelled at the server and then came to us make smart comments under his breath as "I'll leave the old food here so you can believe that we made you new food." Pretty relaxed environment with very good customer service. The waiter often checked in on us and got us what we needed in a timely manner. Everything went smoothly. The portions were big which I liked. I got the Arrabbiata Pasta which came with a side salad. I chose to get the house dressing and it was really good. These guys are terrible. We ordered 2 pies via Uber Eats. The Uber Eats menu offered Napoletana, Pescatora, and Positano variations. Napoletana style pizzas are simple and classic; san Marzano tomatoes/tomato sauce, buffalo mozz, olive oil, basil. We've had many many Napoletana pizzas over the years. Positano pizzas are similar but often come with prosciutto or similar meats. Pescatora pies contain seafood like shrimp, mussels, clams. I've eaten at Portofino's in the past but never noticed these options offered before so we were excited to experience their take on a Napoletana style pie in particular. We also ordered the Positano. We had no interest in the seafood Pescatora pizza. The pizzas that were delivered both had shrimp and the Positano was covered in arugula. While we did order a couple of toppings, we did not order shrimp or arugula. I called the restaurant to resolve and in our brief conversation, the person on the other line was combative and impatient. He insisted that they did nothing wrong and the pizzas were made correctly. I asked why shrimp was on both pies and why one pie was covered in arugula, when did not order either, but all he said was something along the lines of "that's how the pizzas are supposed to be made". I basically hung up but my wife called back, hoping cooler heads would prevail. The man on the other line was again combative, impatient, and rude. He offered no solution and only made thing worse I looked back at the Uber Eats menu and there was absolutely no info provided to suggest that they had a unique take on Napoletana, Positano, or Pescatora variation. I have a basic understanding of each so had no reason to assume arugula would be covering the Positano or that shrimp would be on BOTH pizzas. Especially considering they had a Pescatora seafood pizza also listed on the menu...which was not ordered Interestingly, these three pizza variations have since been removed from the Uber Eats menu....less than 24 hours after my experience. It's as if the restaurant doesn't really know what they're doing and threw up some "authentic" variations to gain credibility. Or the menu was Ai generated and the restaurant didn't know how to make them. It wasn't cheap either. The total was over $119. Uber Eats has refunded a portion of the expense but I am contesting because the menu was completely misleading and the restaurant seems incompetent. We ended up ordering Fuel pizza which was fantastic read more

Oh, Portofinos - I love you! My grandma has been taking me here for years, and now that she is gone I will continue to visit in her honor! They have some of the best eggplant Parmesan that I've had. Don't get me started on the house dressing, because literally no one makes a better one! When I go I always order a house salad which comes with onions, croutons, sliced olives, and tomatoes. The house dressing is the most unique flavor. I truly wish they bottled it, but it has egg in it so I think they have to make it fresh daily. The pizza is good here too! If you're craving a sandwich, get the Philly cheesesteak. In my opinion, it's the best one that Charlotte has to offer. After recently moving to the area I was happy to see a Portofino's near by as I am a huge fan of their Park Road location, and have been for years. We arrived shortly after 7:00pm on a weeknight and were happy to see the staff and restaurant were following Covid guidelines. We ordered drinks as we reviewed the menu. The drinks were delivered and both glasses of wine were so watered down we sent both back and ended up getting a bottled beer. As for the meals, we ordered Chicken Marsala and Chicken Parmigiana, which includes a side salad each and bread. The bread was warm, must have come straight out of the oven, and the salad was just okay. The lettuce was somewhat wilted. When the entrees arrived, just like the Park Road location, huge portions. The Chicken Marsala had absolutely no flavor. Not sure if they even used Marsala, ha ha! As for the Parmigiania, the chicken was fine, but the Rigatoni that accompanied the dish was so undercooked I couldn't eat it. And, it was so covered in sauce you almost couldn't enjoy the chicken. Overall I was somewhat surprised by this experience knowing how much I love the Park Rod location. So, not sure I will return, but I will say they did have several pickup orders for pizza while we were there so maybe I will give their pizza a try. read more

Always enjoy the food at Portofinos. A little surprised to see an Ice Tea drink cost $4.00 /ea. A beer was only $.50 more?

First off the place was extremely clean, and staff was great. So that's always an A+ in my book. I tried the shrimp parm meal and it was just ok for me. Came out hot and fresh but the flavor just lacked for me. The bread was piping hot, but I think would be so much better if they had some olive oil/seasoning mixture to dip it in. I added a Caesar salad and for almost $5 I was very disappointed. Not spectacular abt it but it was still good. I got the tiramisu to go, and that was absolutely delish. I would definitely go back to the place, but would try something different next time. Menu is pretty extensive so plenty other items I would go back for. read more

On the prowl for some slam banging eggplant parm... didn't find it here. It was meh, on bland side. No wow factor. Sauce was good tho. Had salad with house dressing which was bland also... I rarely add salt to my food but had to add it to the salad. Hubby had lasagna, he said it was good! Service was good, waitress friendly and helpful. Wanted to write a review because the pictures so far made me nervous and some of the reviews did as well. When we first got there a woman was causing a scene saying that their workers didn't care about their customers which again made me nervous. Despite it being a busy holiday, the service was great. Everything came quick but we were also given time when we asked for it. The wine recommendation was perfect for me. The bruschetta was great, its very comparable to mama ricottas. My boyfriend enjoyed the arrabbiata pasta (pretty spicy which is good for us) but felt that there wasn't much chicken added for the add-on price. I got the vodka sauce pasta with penne and it was phenomenal. It was so good I could eat it for days and is probably the best flavored vodka sauce I've had in a long time. They also give a whole little loaf of bread for dipping into your pasta which is great. The side salads were your typical salads. I think the only complaint i could have is that the 2 person tables are very small for how big the plates are but its not a big deal. I will definitely be coming back to either order the pasta or something new. read more

I was in town for a lunch with a Physician. Being from New Jersey, when the office asked for Italian, I cringed. That said, the staff at the restaurant was kind and welcoming. They provided the meal in a timely fashion for me to pick up and also brought it to my car. I loved chatting with the owner, and I tried to get him to build one in Cary by me!
