We really enjoyed the food here! We left feeling satisfied and would go back and bring friends. The staff were friendly and accommodating! The overall feel of the restaurant is boring and could use a little TLC to make it feel more welcoming and warm. Theres nothing on the walls and a recommendation, they should add shades at the bar. Be warned, if you sit at certain seats at the bar during sunset, you will be blinded by the light! Our food was very good. We did have a hiccup with the linguine Vongole but the chef corrected it and it was much better second go around. The lasagna was awesome! Definitely something I would recommend trying! Desserts were also very good and you can tell there is a lot of thought in the menu. With it still being so new, it's understandable there are kinks still but we did enjoy our evening here and will be back. read more

Really nice Italian restaurant in LOSO, modern interior, nice bar area, friendly staff, pretty nice varied menu. We went for a holiday friends dinner on a Sunday, not crazy busy, but a nice flow of customers. We were seated at a nice high top kinda table, we took pictures by their pretty tree, then tried to pick a few dishes to share. Drinks first, I had the Benedictine old fashioned, lovely bold cocktail, definitely a sipper! My friends had a glass of Rosé, nice , dry and crisp. The Trento margarita, I tried this and was very good, loved the coconut flavor, also the sesto martini had nice orange finish. They had some specials , soup and entrees, but we went with the main menu, starting with the bread service which they provide, was really good quality bread with a nice dipping oil. We also had the stuffed mushrooms, delicious, with sausage and vodka sauce, nice light, great app. We ordered 3 entrees which was perfect for the 4of us. The pappardelle with wild mushrooms, didn't look great but tasted really good! I love that thick pasta, and it held the sauce really well, herby, white wine creamy broth. Loved this, very hearty being a veggie dish. The gnocchi pesto primavera was also nice, light, with seasonal vegetables, pecorino cheese, this was led by their fresh pesto, gnocchi was really good. The cavatelli, red sauce, pancetta, mint, basil and pecorino cheese. As good as this looked , it was a little salty, otherwise great flavor, but the salt overpowered, the pasta itself was really good . Honestly all dishes were a little salt heavy. Still edible. But more than I like. Desserts, they had some classics, we really wanted the tiramisu, as you do when your at an Italian,but they were out, nothing else really appealed. So we just had a bottle of wine instead! Nice super Tuscan red blend. One of my friends ordered an espresso martini, if you like milky ones this is your kind, not the kind I like, I think a little too much baileys, even my friend said so! Overall nice place, we enjoyed the dining experience, food not perfect but not bad either. read more

Had the pleasure of trying this place out at a private event. We had a special drink menu and received free apps. All the drinks were free good and the food was excellent. I especially enjoyed the pizzas. Parking can be a hassle though since it is in southend which always has way more people than parking spaces, so if possible I would definitely suggest doing a rideshare or carpooling. read more

The service and atmosphere were top notch. We were well attended and the restaurant is beautiful. Our server was quick and attentive. My wife and I ordered the tomato bruschetta for a starter. One of the best bruschetta's I've every enjoyed. The plate is served with four large pieces and given the size I think it may be a bit much for two as a starter but that didn't stop us. For entrees I enjoyed the gnocchi and my wife ordered pappardelle with mushrooms and cream sauce. My gnocchi was good but my wife's pappardelle was excellent. The meatiness of the mushrooms and the pappardelle noodles were filling and the cream cause was very flavorful. My gnocchi was equally as flavorful with a pesto sauce but I enjoyed the meatiness of the mushrooms in my wife's dish much more. The two disappointments were the tiramisu we ordered for desert and the price. My wife read where someone quoted that the restaurant claims this to be authentic and a recipe straight out of Italy. What we ordered was not (and I've been to Italy and eaten my fair share of tiramisu). Ours came out with a less than desirable presentation. The bottom have was a soggy mess. I feel like this was the last piece in a mass produced tray that was about to be thrown out. Given the price of the dish, and the rest of the food, this dish was unacceptable. Lastly, the prices overall were a tad bit high. Given the area the restaurant is located, I get it. We ordered an app, two wines each, two entrees (both vegetarian) and the tiramisu and we were in for $180, a bit steep for Italian. read more

Let me start this off by saying this will be part 1 of my review since we popped in & had drinks and appetizers at the bar while we were waiting for the remainder of our party to join us next door. However, I'm already a fan of this establishment! As soon as you walk in the esthetic is so modern, clean, & inviting you're immediately sucked in. Once at the bar, our lovely Karoline helped us out with the menu items & was extremely knowledgeable about the restaurant as she provided us with some history behind the name. We got the stuffed mushrooms which had sausage on a plate of vodka sauce. They were phenomenal! Paired with a glass of Cab Sauv & my boo grabbed the italian mule. This place is absolutely fantastic Italian cuisine! Everything is so fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The lasagna is the best I've had in Charlotte. The octopus dish with squid ink risotto was so flavorful. We had a rude crudo dish which I loved but it was a special and not on their Normal menu although it should be! The arancini was super cheesy which I appreciate! I usually think arancini is boring and am not a fan but this one was delish! Really enjoyed all the cocktails we tried also. The Negroni was excellent. They also have great mocktail options. The space was bright and clean and inviting. Service was phenomenal! Everyone was so friendly. The service was great everything was quick except getting the bill (our server became the bartender) which took over 30 minutes. The food on the other hand was hit or miss. Appetizers Arancini - Good, not great Meatballs - Pass, weak flavor Caesar Salad - Pass, it is so odd and salty. Not like any Caesar I've ever had. Mains Papparadelle with Wild Mushrooms - Good/missing something. Plating it was a mess and vaguely looked like dog food. Lasagna - Good Pizza with Prosciutto and Hot Honey - Ok, not a strong flavor except the honey Dessert Fior di Latte Gelato - Pass, it was gritty. Definitely not the "flower of milk". There was some type of bitter caramel on it. Unpleasant to be honest. Espresso - Good See pictures for reference. The atmosphere was OK until a large group came in and it became very loud. Overall a good experience at a young restaurant, but there could be improvements. Waitstaff and hostess were friendly, even with us dressed more casually and with a toddler. We ordered focaccia, and meatballs for starters. 2 Meatballs came out hot and delicious, also surprisingly large. Focaccia was okay. Mains ordered were Short Rib Ragu with Burrata & Branzino. Ragu could have been great but the burrata chilled the pasta so it was cold. Branzino was a solid dish but the sauce under the perfectly crispy fish, was lukewarm. read more

Giovanna is a small, cute restaurant. We had a larger party so they gave us their private area and we had a great time. The food was great! We started with a few antipasto's: meatballs & bruschetta were my favorites! We also had the cheese platter and the arancini. All were great. I went with the lasagna for my meal and it was so good. Best lasagna i have had from a restaurant in a very long time ! I also had a slice of the prosciutto pizza & it was very good as well. There was more that i would like to try so i will be back ! Only down side was parking. Valet was super super backed up and parking in the area sucks ! read more

I don't like to use this term but here I cannot find other words: Hidden Gem. We eat out a lot, and last night wanted to try something new. Giovanna popped up on the OpenTable app and we live not far away so we decided to take a leap of faith. It did not disappoint. In fact, we were very surprised as to the quality of the food. The inside looks modern and quaint. Some of the picture you may see make it feel a bit sterile, but it is not like that at all inside. The kitchen is wide open for you to see the action and the large bar sits against the outside window. There is a large patio with a fairly nice view of LoSo. Service was great too. Wife had stuffed portabella shrooms and a Caesar salad. I had the branzino which came as the whole fish fillet. it was delicious and well paired with a glass of pinot grigio. They also have specialty cocktails, most traditional ones with an Italian twist based on the liquors they use. Only observation is they have this beautiful barista station machine, but it is sort of hiding in the back and not at the bar - it looks like the bar area may be a bit too tight on the back side. Also, it is an Italian restaurant, but we did not find Prosecco - they do have other bubbles though. We can't wait to come back and bring friends here. read more

Outstanding!!!! This new Italian joint in LoSo is definitely worth checking out. We had the calamari as an appetizer which was unconventional but delicious. The lasagna was sincerely the best I've ever had. Service was excellent as well. Super knowledgeable and friendly staff. I even saw a couple employees go outside to move umbrellas around so as to protect patrons inside from the sun as it went down. The vibe is classy, sophisticated, yet relaxed. Something about the acoustics in the room made it so that even with a large group right next to us, my partner and I could hear every word we said to each other without ever having to raise our voices. Natural light poured through the large windows, illuminating the space and giving everything a soft glow. Awesome experience... will definitely be visiting again next time we feel like Italian food! read more

I was in late on a Sunday - restaurant was mostly empty and I sat at the bar - table behind me had a kid listening blaring a movie on an iPad the whole time. Turns out it was the kid and mom of the employee working at the bar. Not impressed with the setup or that the manager tolerated this. I had a pizza (sub par) and two glasses of wine. The restaurant is new and the service is eager to show off how good the menu is and you can tell. More of a modern and clean vibe, but a vibe. Great bar menu, tried the lavender and limoncello spritzer and a glass of Pinot Grigio. Would be lying if wouldn't go back, sit on the patio, and just drink off the spritzer menu with some apps- PERFECT afternoon with the girls. Food: - Get the arancini and thank me later! - Do not pass on the pizza, it's all about the sauce. Don't be scared to throw it an app to split and try with friends - The pasta is made in house. We tried the pappardelle, linguine, and chicken parm and immediately relocated back to my northern roots. My favorite was the linguine with clams. - We tried the cannoli and pistachio gelato. The service was absolutely horrible. Ordered wine to eat with my food never received the wine. Even after I was finished eating I never received it. So when I asked the waiter to cancel the drink that I never received she got an attitude. Manager on staff claimed that they were super busy but they had an open bar with no one seated there and 6 open tables. Not the service you would expected a restaurant like this.
