Had the pleasure of trying this place out at a private event. We had a special drink menu and received free apps. All the drinks were free good and the food was excellent. I especially enjoyed the pizzas. Parking can be a hassle though since it is in southend which always has way more people than parking spaces, so if possible I would definitely suggest doing a rideshare or carpooling.

Pasta made on site ! Great wines and fantastic desserts. Only 20 min from the airport.

A glass of vino.

Let me start this off by saying this will be part 1 of my review since we popped in & had drinks and appetizers at the bar while we were waiting for the remainder of our party to join us next door. However, I'm already a fan of this establishment! As soon as you walk in the esthetic is so modern, clean, & inviting you're immediately sucked in. Once at the bar, our lovely Karoline helped us out with the menu items & was extremely knowledgeable about the restaurant as she provided us with some history behind the name. We got the stuffed mushrooms which had sausage on a plate of vodka sauce. They were phenomenal! Paired with a glass of Cab Sauv & my boo grabbed the italian mule. We enjoyed every minute of our short visit & can't wait to return to try the rest of the menu.

This place is absolutely fantastic Italian cuisine! Everything is so fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The lasagna is the best I've had in Charlotte. The octopus dish with squid ink risotto was so flavorful. We had a rude crudo dish which I loved but it was a special and not on their Normal menu although it should be! The arancini was super cheesy which I appreciate! I usually think arancini is boring and am not a fan but this one was delish! Really enjoyed all the cocktails we tried also. The Negroni was excellent. They also have great mocktail options. The space was bright and clean and inviting. Service was phenomenal! Everyone was so friendly. I highly recommend this spot if you love Italian food!

Just got the stuffed mushrooms and an Italian mule, and it's enough for a 5 star I will be back to try the rest of the menu!

Espresso

The service was great everything was quick except getting the bill (our server became the bartender) which took over 30 minutes. The food on the other hand was hit or miss. Appetizers Arancini - Good, not great Meatballs - Pass, weak flavor Caesar Salad - Pass, it is so odd and salty. Not like any Caesar I've ever had. Mains Papparadelle with Wild Mushrooms - Good/missing something. Plating it was a mess and vaguely looked like dog food. Lasagna - Good Pizza with Prosciutto and Hot Honey - Ok, not a strong flavor except the honey Dessert Fior di Latte Gelato - Pass, it was gritty. Definitely not the "flower of milk". There was some type of bitter caramel on it. Unpleasant to be honest. Espresso - Good See pictures for reference. The atmosphere was OK until a large group came in and it became very loud. Parking is a struggle. It is very limited.

Lasagna bolognese

Giovanna is a small, cute restaurant. We had a larger party so they gave us their private area and we had a great time. The food was great! We started with a few antipasto's: meatballs & bruschetta were my favorites! We also had the cheese platter and the arancini. All were great. I went with the lasagna for my meal and it was so good. Best lasagna i have had from a restaurant in a very long time ! I also had a slice of the prosciutto pizza & it was very good as well. There was more that i would like to try so i will be back ! Only down side was parking. Valet was super super backed up and parking in the area sucks !

I don't like to use this term but here I cannot find other words: Hidden Gem. We eat out a lot, and last night wanted to try something new. Giovanna popped up on the OpenTable app and we live not far away so we decided to take a leap of faith. It did not disappoint. In fact, we were very surprised as to the quality of the food. The inside looks modern and quaint. Some of the picture you may see make it feel a bit sterile, but it is not like that at all inside. The kitchen is wide open for you to see the action and the large bar sits against the outside window. There is a large patio with a fairly nice view of LoSo. Service was great too. Wife had stuffed portabella shrooms and a Caesar salad. I had the branzino which came as the whole fish fillet. it was delicious and well paired with a glass of pinot grigio. They also have specialty cocktails, most traditional ones with an Italian twist based on the liquors they use. Only observation is they have this beautiful barista station machine, but it is sort of hiding in the back and not at the bar - it looks like the bar area may be a bit too tight on the back side. Also, it is an Italian restaurant, but we did not find Prosecco - they do have other bubbles though. We can't wait to come back and bring friends here.

PAPPARDELLE WITH WILD MUSHROOMS

Dinning area is beautiful and inviting. Our waitress was very nice. We had a tasty bottle of rosé. I loved the gnocchi and my friend loved her dish as well. I thought the gnocchi was the better dish. I thought the portions were a little small for $24 dishes but We will be back!!!!

It was super busy, so I believe that a reservation is needed for the weekend, especially for larger groups. The vibe is a bit darker and moodier but with natural lighting- perfect for a date night but not limited to that. The espresso martinis, cocktails, beer, and mocktails were all delicious. They have amazing espresso martinis and aperol spritzes. The only dishes that I tried included the white truffle garlic bread, Sunday night lasagna, and the hot honey prosciutto pizza. Everything was delicious. A special shoutout to the Sunday night lasagna - WOW it was perfect. I'm usually not a huge lasagna person, but this changed that. I would 100% recommend this. Since we were celebrating my birthday with our parents, they were kind enough to give me a free dessert. I chose the salted caramel budino, and it was amazing. I would definitely recommend this as a dessert. Overall, we had a great experience! I would definitely come back.

Review for North Italia…read more has absolutely become one of my staples in Charlotte.** It's located in the heart of South End--a trendy, energetic neighborhood with beautiful outdoor dining--and one of the biggest perks here is easy parking, which, as any Charlotte diner knows, is always a win. Inside, the restaurant is gorgeous. Think large, comfortable booths, warm lighting, fresh flowers, and a lively but polished atmosphere. I always make a reservation through OpenTable--I'm too old to be waiting around to eat, and I might as well rack up some points and perks while I'm at it. One of the things I appreciate most about North Italia is their seasonal menu. It keeps the experience fresh and thoughtful, and you can tell the kitchen is paying attention to ingredients and timing. I usually start with a glass of wine-- a sparkling rosé or a crisp Sauvignon Blanc--something cold, clean, and refreshing. Bubbles are always a good option for me. They serve a delicious focaccia at the table, which I sometimes indulge in, but the dish that truly stands out--the one I still dream about--was a seasonal ravioli with butternut squash and crispy sage. It was beautifully balanced, comforting, and memorable in the best way. Other favorites: * The Caesar salad--perfectly dressed * The arancini and calamari--always solid starters * The pizzas, especially the cacio e pepe * And yes, the desserts are absolutely worth saving room for Brunch here is also a lovely experience. Sitting on the patio, eating alfresco on a sunny Sunday, reminds me so much of what I loved about California--being outdoors, enjoying great food, and taking your time. Thankfully, there's plenty of shade, so it's comfortable even on warm days. They do offer a happy hour. It's not the most extensive in town, but it's perfectly fine for drinks, a pizza, or a charcuterie board with friends after work. What keeps me coming back: * Consistently good service * Clean, beautiful space * Thoughtful seasonal dishes * Easy parking * Reliable quality Yes, it's a bit upscale--but it's approachable, welcoming, and dependable. And when a chef takes the time to create seasonal dishes that appeal to diners with curious palates, that deserves recognition. Bottom line: A polished, reliable favorite in South End that delivers great food, beautiful ambiance, and a consistently enjoyable dining experience.

I've tried several of the sauces and my favorite hands down is the vodka sauce. I like to add spinach and mushrooms to it. I have a few critiques though. I think the pasta water is under-salted most of the time. The noodles could use more salt content in my opinion. The salad proteins are always overcooked - edges are often hard. Finally, the service isn't great. Trying to get a water or tea refill is all but impossible. I will keep going bc the food is mostly good and I enjoy the ambience.

Forgot to take photos of the bread because I was too busy enjoying it. Oops! We ordered meatballs as an app, and I had the lasagna for my entree. Both were pretty good, though I wish the lasagna had a bit more of a "noodle-y" bite to it, if that makes sense. I felt like I was just eating a bowl of cheese and sauce. The ratio of noodles to cheese and sauce didn't feel balanced, and felt more like lasagna soup, but overall, it was decent. I think I'd try something different next time. My husband had the mussels and said they were okay- basically mussels and tomato sauce. As for the ambiance, it's casual Italian dining experience, and includes a market at the front of the store for take home breads and pastas.

Starbucks comes to mind but only because the app makes buying Starbucks easier than making my own coffee. Since opening in uptown, Portifino has become one of those places. I hate to admit it, but there have been weeks where I have eaten at least one meal there every day. Sometimes twice.... Charlotte isn't known for its pizza. I moved here from up north 25 years ago and growing up I. The northeast sets the bar pretty high in terms of pizza. Portifino's is great. The sauce is sweet and portioned perfectly. The cheese is nice and salty, so you actually taste it. The toppings are flavorful, and again, well proportioned. My favorite is the Caprice which comes with tomato, fresh mozzarella, olive oil and fresh basil. It's amazing. The pasta dishes are excellent. I'd recommend the linguini with clam sauce and throw in some shrimp and broccoli for good measure. The Calzones are HUGE. I get mine with Mushroom, sausage, pepperoni and black olives. The But their subs are really what stands out. The chicken Philly has to be one of the best sandwiches in town. I could go on and on here because I've had almost everything on the menu here but no one has the time or attention spans for that. The service is excellent. It's a family run business and it FEELS like a family run business. They care about what they're doing. The person at the counter taking your order has a stake in your satisfaction. Don't get me wrong, we're not talking about Ritz Carlton Gold Standard. It's a pizza joint run by REAL people. But they're good people, and they actually care. That's better in so many ways. My best recommendation is to go get lunch with a friend, coworker, or even by yourself and sit in a booth by the window, watch the city do its thing and enjoy some real food made by real people. It's a great way to spend your 30 minute lunch.
