The gym was surprisingly well-equipped and very clean, and the pool area was a great place to relax after a day of exploring. One of my favorite touches was checking in at the bar--it immediately set the fun, laid-back vibe that Moxy is known for. The staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming throughout our stay, and I loved the miscellaneous closet stocked with helpful items guests might need. The only two drawbacks, according to my travel companion, were the lack of a refrigerator and a coffee maker in the room. Neither was a dealbreaker, but they would have made the stay even better. Other observations: our room is also kinda narrow. The setup, if two queen beds facing one another with a Tetris-style couch in between. There is very little counter space anywhere, unless you use the couch as a nightstand. A little odd to have a folding table (found hanging), but glad it existed. These fancy hangers kept falling off the holders. A typical hanger would have stayed put better (maybe). Also, there is no closet, so one has to hang clothes against a wall. So overall, for them, storage was an issue. If you are there only a couple of days, not a biggie, but for an extended stay, this setup would be very impractical. Overall, a fun, modern hotel with a great atmosphere, excellent amenities, and an unbeatable location. I would definitely stay here again!

The shower floor was super slippery, the sink was so shallow and water was always all over the place, and lighting could be brighter near the mirrors. The room did not have a fridge but they did have bags of ice that you could get from a freezer in the gym. They had a closet near the elevators that had some essentials and extra blankets and pillows. I really liked that concept!

There's plenty of sleeping room with 2 king sized beds, one in each unit and 2 couches, one in each unit. The king beds are so comfy and we slept good. The down stairs B unit was like a cute little apartment. There's a jacuzzi that I regret not using but you need to close both blinds on either side when taking a bath. The shower is big with a door. There's a washer and dryer in both units. There's a big enough kitchen and sitting space in both units. The only problem we incurred on day 1 and 2 was a broken air conditioner. However, maintenance was out asap and fixed it both times with a quickness. The maintenance staff seemed very nice and helpful. The second day we were there we went and enjoyed the wellness center pool and saunas which is very clean and there's putt-putt and other games outside. We were told that one of the beaches/lake sides was open but we never found it. If you are looking for other things to do on your stay, chimney rock is nearby. Asheville is almost an hour away and black mountain is about the same. You'll have a good time and have plenty of choices for food and fun if you go to either.

They managed to keep the old school brick elegance, while throwing in a few modern amenities. The top observation deck presented a grand view of the city, mountains and surrounding properties. The in-room locally made goodies (craft beer, wine, snacks, coffee, ice cream) filled in between cravings, and it was nice to take a bevvy to the observation deck, or while strolling to the outside fire pit. The Nespresso machine and Aerolatté Milk Frother was a nice touch. And our favorite, the steam shower. What a nice luxury to have after a day of sightseeing, or simply to de-stress the body/mind. What we didn't like!! We booked the first floor suite A, which has an additional sitting room and kitchen appliances. Although we loved the space, the first floor was very noisy. The geo-thermal heating/cooling system actually vibrated the bed when it switched on (which was often), and the outside air condensers were loud. That, coupled with a very annoying white noise system above the bed, made for a very restless night of sleep. The speaker for the white noise was located above the bed, and while you could control the volume, you could not completely switch it off. The white noise sounded like forced air through a clogged air conditioner return, and not a soft ocean wave. And although the towel heater was a good idea, it was confusing to operate. Also, upon arrival, the room had an overbearing fragrance, and although it dissipated by the third day, it really distracted from a relaxing experience (especially coupled with the noise). The GM indicated they didn't use any cleaning fragrances, but all the guests I had enter the room commented on the odor. And finally, the property does not have any onsite manager (all issues are communicated thru text or calling), so any issues are not immediately addressed. For example, we couldn't light the fire pit since the fire starter was not working, and none of the guests had any matches or lighter. The in room safe was on the fritz (apparently low batteries), and the Bunn House directory suggested not to leave any valuables in the room, so I had to lug valuables around. Just be aware, all on-site satisfaction is remotely communicated, and may not be corrected immediately. However, the text response is very quick and prompt upon letting the GM know of any issues. Let me be clear. The Bunn House is a first rate property, unfortunately our visit was not as restful as we had hoped.

If you plan on checking-in after 6pm, they leave you detailed instructions on how to get access to your room key and find your room. We did not interact with any staff our entire stay until we were leaving and someone asked us where we left our key. If you're not a fan of a more independent experience with check-in or check-out this might not be the place for you. I loved that the main space had a hostel feel. Where it was a common space, but people could choose to mingle if they wanted. There was a clear hotel map to help you find your room too. Be mindful with your luggage because you may be climbing a lot of stairs to get to your room. There is free parking at the home that is easy to access. I really liked our Vireo room, but do know the bed space is a bit cramped. We didn't mind because we did not stay long. I think I may have been allergic to the room's room spray because I kept sneezing. Besides this, I loved our room and all the creative spaces. The lounge room of our bedroom was cool too. The bathroom was quite spacious as well. It's a very trendy and intimate home. It was about a 15-20 minute walk into downtown and a quick drive to West Asheville and other popular neighborhoods. We stayed in the "Mike's place" cabin, which is one of the first cabins you see when you enter the property, right across the way from admin office. Mike's Place cabin features: - 1 bedroom with bath - 1 bedroom - Living room with fireplace - Kitchen equipped with pots and pans, baking dishes, basic kitchen gadgets, soaps and paper towels with stove, fridge, microwave, coffee machine and stacked washer and dryer - Dining area equipped with a table and 6 chairs - Full Bathroom next to kitchen with sliding door - Outdoor back deck with hot tub, lawn chairs, overlooking the pond down the hill. It's stocked with trout that you can fish. There is also a game area by the admin office that my kids enjoyed with their cousin a few times. Most days, we were out and about exploring Asheville so we didn't hang out in the cabins most days. The day before we left Asheville to go back home, we did have a lazy day and hung out at the cabin. It was a comforting place to wind down at the end of the day. My husband's uncle even bought some fishing rods and the kids went fishing with their great uncle and we ate some delicious trout for dinner! We also used their grill to fire up some steaks. - Notes - *Due to COVID-19, there is no housekeeping until you leave. *Make sure you put trash securely in the bins on the porch to prevent incidents with bears *They provide a complimentary treat tin full of delicious little cookies (Thank you, ACOWW!) Our group had four cabins, each of which had their own charm and beautiful view. Andrew's, Jen's, Sophia's and Greg's (we needed a dog-friendly cabin, which they were happy to accommodate). There are so many activities on the property; my dad and brother played their 55th lifetime game of chess together - a memorable game outside with life-size pieces! Amie and Amber were incredibly friendly and accommodating (and patient :)). Thank you, Willow Winds staff for providing a beautiful, safe, clean and memorable place for us to spend a few relaxing days. We cannot wait to visit again.

Loved how close the cabins are to all the places we visited: The Admiral, Sun rise cafe, book exchange, battery park, art district- PERFECT COUPLES GETAWAY!!!!
