Back in 2017, Chris quoted me a fair price to mount, bleach, and repair my poster, but for personal reasons I wasn't able to follow up on the project. I saved his email, though, and recently reached back out to him. He responded right away with an updated quote, and in general was very helpful and responsive. Unfortunately, as we were corresponding, I found -- for the first time in years of looking -- another poster like mine for sale online. This one was in near-mint condition, and it cost less to buy it than it would to have my ratty version repaired. I really regretted having to cancel, but I don't regret connecting with Chris. I had an old magazine insert from 1929 that was very fragile and was thrilled to have it linen-backed to make it more stable and secure. Even though it was a small job, Chris did amazing work. The process cleaned up all of the dirt and grime bringing the colors back to the way they were when first produced. To say that I was overwhelmed by the great work Chris and his team did would be a dramatic understatement. This was my first poster to be restored, so I didn't have a reference point other than the videos I had seen on Youtube (including Chris'). My expectations were far exceeded. Mine was a 60's Italian movie poster printed on tissue-paper thin stock clearly not intended to last beyond the film's run at whatever theater it was displayed. It had been folded for decades, there was tape residue on the back, and the gentlest handling of it resulted in damage. I reached out to Chris and he fairly worked with me on the price - yes I paid in full in advance (I get it), and then I sent it off. To address the one-star review below, it's honest to say that Chris is better at his craft than he is being a "customer service" rep. Amazon he ain't. But having past lived in NYC for more than 20 years, I'm familiar with rough-around-the-edges Brooklynites. They are usually more bark than bite, and it was clear that Chris took his work seriously and had a real passion for preservation. Communication was spotty at times, but I was not in a rush to receive my poster and was much more interested in quality work that online niceties. However, communication style aside, my finished poster had none of the issues of the negative reviewer's - it was nothing short of a miraculous transformation. I'd show it in pics here, but it's now at the framer's. All residue and dirt was removed, the poster was linen-backed, and paper loss was restored along with missing color. And return shipping was included in the price, and via UPS I would guess that S&H was more than 10% of what I paid in full. In my humble opinion, I got a real bargain and a final product that would not look out of place is the fanciest gallery in NYC or L.A. It took about 50% longer than expected, but it was well worth the wait. Artists - what Chris and his team truly are - almost always lack the social graces of those of us less gifted. But if you enter in to this process with open eyes and patience, I believe you'll be rewarded. And never forget that in this digital age, paper restoration is a dying art. Chris is surely not getting rich doing this kind of work, but I believe that he is governed more by passion than profit. I sat in two antique movie posters, one fairly large, the other a standard 27 x 40. Although I appreciate the end product and the mastery employed by Chris at poster fix, and the manner in which he responds to emails, the project length extended 2 to 3 months with very little communication. I felt like I only got my posters after begging, pleading and prodding. They were supposed to be done in and around July. At at least a few points in this process I thought I might have been scammed. I finally got them in late September. Again, they look great, especially in the repairs of creases and tears, but a little more transparency, and some photos of progress would have gone a very, very, very long way. read more

I made an off the cuff remark how hard it is to get to the Brooklyn Navy Yards from the city and he rudely replied I had some one from Kentucky come to visit me. Don't tell me its hard to get to me and the proceeded to hang up the phone. At first I thought the call dropped so I tried calling back only for him to hang up again.... I don't know if his services are good or not. All I experienced was his unhinged behavior. FYI Chris, yes it is easier to come from Kentucky because you have a car. Taking a subway to the Navy Yards from 1st ave in the city, not so easy... So what if I made that comment. A smart business man would say you'll be happy in the end and it will be worth your time. After acquiring three vintage film posters recently, I went to the web in search of someone or someplace that could restore and preserve these pieces, by having them repaired and then linen backed. I have a small collection and have used this process before, but it had been a while, and I had in the meantime moved. I found Chris Cloutier and Posertfix on Shopify through this web search, and after watching the videos and seeing the before and after photographs of some of his work, I decided to reach out to him and inquire about having these newly acquired posters restored and preserved. I sent him photos of each of my posters and described them in an email. Chris acknowledged the email immediately, saying it would take him a couple of days to look them over and would get back to me when he'd done so. He came back with what seemed a very reasonable price for the three posters of which I had sent him images and descriptions. I decided to initially send him the one which needed the most work to see how it came out and for a more first-hand review of his work. As I shared with him after receiving the restored poster in return, his work is spectacular. It was as if it wasn't the same poster I sent to him. I've had other movie posters restored and preserved in the past, and until now I impressed with those results. What I had sent him was one of the more damaged and obviously aged posters among those that I owned. Comparatively, there was one poster in my collection which had been restored and preserved in this way, and was one which was similarly poorly cared for prior to my acquiring it though it was 5 years newer. I was always impress with how well this poster had be restored, but it is not at the level of professional artistry which is displayed in the which Chris and his crew at Posterfix sent back to me. The results on this poster are well beyond my expectations, and even though it took a little longer than he originally anticipated, as I explained in earlier communication with Chris, that was of absolutely no consequence. The work that Posterfix produces is top quality and their prices are very reasonable. Chris is easy to work with and responds to inquiries fully and quickly. I will be sending him the other two film posters I had him look at originally, and any others I obtain in the future. I had a disheartening conversation with Chris over the last few months. I chalked most of our interaction up to the idea that he's "an expert with 40 years of experience" (as he'll readily tell you as if it excuses his attitude) and little time to explain the nuances of his process to each individual customer. That I could shrug off since his website's before and after pictures spoke for themselves, but there was other information on his website that didn't match our conversation and I started to get confused and asked for clarity. I going to share my great experience with Posterfix so that anyone with a vintage poster will know what they can expect. I sent an 85-year-old film poster to be linen-backed, and I recently received the restored poster. In short, the work exceeded my expectations in every way. My poster had significant creases from being folded (as is quite common) -- but even more significantly, missing paper around the edges, with a missing corner which invaded part of the image. Chris and his team did a beautiful job of restoring the poster; not only linen-backing it, but also providing fills for the missing paper and even recreating the missing corner. People who have seen the poster since did not even realize that the restoration had taken place. It's going to look fantastic when it is framed and displayed. My poster is of modest value compared to some of the rare and historic posters Chris has handled, but the care and quality of I received was second to none. As someone who has had a great exprience with Posterfix, I would like to respond to some of the negativity in a few of the reviews. Posterfix is a family business that is known for poster restoration and preservation. For the price of linen-backing (if that is all you need) you are actually getting the services of an art restorer with many thousnds of hours of experience, who has restored tens-of-thousands of posters. Some projects will be ahead of you when he receives your poster. Restoration work takes patience and it may be difficult to predict exactly how long it will be before he can start your project. My suggestion is to be patient, because when he does start your project he will give it the personal attention he gave to all his other work. I have had no trouble communicating with Chris by phone and email, but keep in mind that he does not have a big staff. (That is actually a good thing, because it means that your project will be completed by the owner of the business!) Super inconsistent! You never know what you're gonna get with Chris. One the one hand he has done great work on a large poster, good linen backing, nice (light) touch up work - quite beautiful. On the other hand I've been waiting for 5 months on some other work, he temporarily "lost" some of my posters and some other linen backing work was mediocre at best: with creases, strange debris behind some of the posters (it's not like a hamster under the carpet but still quite noticeable) and noticeable glue residue on the posters themselves. Add to this all the drama, the "strange" emails etc. - naaa! For that kind of money you can find better work elsewhere. read more

Chris does great work ....i used him early 2000's on a poster that actually got damage much worse in a shipping problem. He helped me greatly with expert help and testimony to get the shiping business to pay the insurance i had paid for. He did a great job on the poster a 1940s print and repaired the damage to the point you can not see it matching up the damaged photos to the poster. Fast forward 2017 I sent him two more posters again another great job (rip repairs, art touch up, folds flatten etc.). Great feed back as to what work to complete and positive communication over the process. 1957 this time and 6 feet long!! Won Chris's Ebay auction for a linen backing and cleaning. In the end after over a 4 month delay, he apparently quickly did the backing and it's poorly done, lots of bubbles and cracks and rips on my antique french bicycle poster where there was none before. Also he informed me that he wasn't going to clean it, even though we discussed that he would. I feel he's ruined my poster. I feel I was scammed. When I complained via email, I received nasty crazy responses. Truly, like he was out of it. Maybe the chemicals take their toll. Maybe depression is the problem. Don't know. Anyway, I would like to try to warn others by writing about my experience. I thought Chris was the right person to bring my poster to. Four Hundred Dollars later, it is clear that he wasn't. Opened an email today to find a letter from Chris Cloutier "begging" for money to be sent him to pay HIS bills or he was probably going "out of business". Also, he said his wife might leave him because she wasn't getting paid. WHY, is this "my business"? I don't even know WHY I received an email from PosterFix, as I have NEVER done any business with the company. I am a dealer in the poster and rare video movie business, but have used the same poster restoration studio and linen backer for about thirty five years, but am always trying to "better" the bottom line, so.... I responded to Chris' letter and said I am always looking to get better rates for basic services I use on a regular basis. I had heard of Chris in past, and believed he had a good enough reputation, in order to entrust my property to him. I quoted him the rates I currently paid and said I would definitely be interested in someone who could offer more affordable rates, especially on very large items. Following is EXACTLY VERBATIM Message Back I received (some asterisks have been added in place of vowels, for "good taste" matters) : "His Dennis. I admit the rates are higher. I posted a review last October (2019) about Posterfix and positive things have happened recently. As I said in the last review, I got the New York State Division of Consumer Protection involved. I filled out their online form which included what I thought would be a fair settlement of this matter. They reached out to Chris. It took until yesterday (January 22, 2020) but I received a refund of $241.00 from Chris to settle this. I've read other reviews on here that state Chris took their money and did poor work or never even returned their poster. I would suggest getting the Consumer Protection people involved. It took a few months but it worked for me. read more

SImilar to others that have experienced extreme rudeness on the phone from Chris, my wife attempted to engage Chris in some pleasantries at the beginning of a phone call. Chris violently objected to the fact that she wasn't strictly talking business, dropped a couple F-bombs during a rant and then hung up on her. Needless to say he's lost a customer, and one that potentially would have sent a lot of business his way. Sad that he feels like he has enough business that he can afford to treat customers like that. I can't comment on the quality of his work because we didn't get that far, but even if it was museum quality I wouldn't feel like paying the guy after this experience. read more

We gave Chris a poster in late 2011. He destroyed the poster (by his own admission) and promised he would replace it and refund our deposit. He has done nothing to make us whole after 18 months of emails and phone calls. DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE. I sent them a vintage "The Big Caper" poster on November 30, 2018, for linen backing and restoration. I was told it would take 3-4 weeks, which was ok with me because it was supposed to be a Christmas gift for a friend. Fast forward to January 22, 2019, I still hadn't received my poster and Chris hadn't updated me. When I inquired as to why I hadn't received it or an update, he replied telling me it would be shipped out the next week. Fast forward to February 23, 2019, I had to email him AGAIN because I still hadn't received my poster. I had to file a claim with PayPal to get my $184 back and I told him I wanted my poster back as it was my property. This man is a liar! He finally returned my poster after I filed BOTH a PayPal and a Better Business Bureau complaint. He also stated in an email back on Feb. 23, 2019, that the poster was "95% there." HE NEVER EVEN STARTED ON IT! Sure, you'll probably find some good reviews, but you really need to pay attention to the bad ones because they are accurate.
