A hot, flavorful sandwich with jalapeños that packed just the right kick. This was my first time picking up in store instead of delivery, and it was a great experience. The location is clean, bright, and well-organized, with friendly employees and fast service. I also appreciate the option to put a name on each sandwich. It makes it so much easier than opening up each one. Only downside is the limited parking. There are two spots up front and a handicap space. Across from that is a couple of curbside pickup spots and a few regular ones, but the corner parking spots are reserved for the dermatologist office. I came on a Saturday night and I had to park in the dermatologist area. Thankfully they were closed. Overall, great food and great service. I'll definitely be back! Thanks to this movie representing Austin so well, the movie and the restaurant became a cultural touchstone of the Texas capital. Fifty years later, Top Notch opened their second location in the middle of Hutto, Texas. I've been to the Hutto Top Notch location three times now. Once to try, once because of its convenience during an event, and once for lunch with co-workers. Each time, I've left with the same impression: it's alright, alright, alright. That's what the quote was. I remember now. I've only had their burgers. Twice, their cheeseburger, and yesterday, the Top Pick Burger. All things considered, it's a decent burger. There is nothing obscene or wrong with the burger. It's just a burger. The Top Pick Burger seems like it could be fun and special, but it's really just a worse burger compared to their cheeseburger. It's not bad, but I didn't find it a better replacement for a cheeseburger. Their menu has a lot more options than just their charcoal-broiled hamburgers. The jalapeños in the papas rancheros added a nice spice level for me but I love my food to make me sweat so if you don't prefer higher spice levels, just get the regular potatoes. As for ambiance, this is a taco counter with an open kitchen and a flat top grill inside a gas station (inside the Valero on Chris Kelley Blvd by the KFC) so I got what I feel most would've expected there. I love a good smash burger, and these are seasoned well, straight forward, and very delicious. And oh the fries - fabulous! So crispy and the perfect compliment to our burgers. We got both the regular and seasoned fries and were not disappointed. My daughter declared the seasoned fries the best she's ever had. The inside of the restaurant is clean and the tables are nice and large for all the food we devoured. The tables were also very clean, and seemed like the staff was on top of keeping everything sparkling. The staff were super friendly, and I saw someone walking around the restaurant multiple times to check in with tables, and meet any unforeseen needs. One of the best decisions we made was ordering shakes. Holy moly. So thick and creamy. According to my hubby their season key lime shake was like drinking a literal key lime pie. He's not wrong.
