This is my second experience with Potbelly. My first was going through the drive through where I completely screwed up my order because I wasn't familiar with the sandwich sizes or the ordering process. This was through no fault on the store's part. Today I ordered Potbelly through Foodsby. I ordered the "A Wreck" and loaded it up. The basics are salami, Angus roast beef, oven roasted turkey, hickory smoked ham with melted Swiss cheese. I made it big, doubled the meat, and added mayo, mustard, hot peppers, lettuce, onion, tomato, and Italian seasoning. I can only assume my sandwich originated at the Jordan Creek location (6305 Mills Civic Parkway, West Des Moines, IA 50266). Because I used a delivery service I can't speak on any experience in-store. The sandwich... Might as well just call it like I see it. It was a mess. Once again this is through no fault of the store. It's just what happens when you load something up with a bunch of crap and then get it delivered...or to go. This didn't impact the taste at all though. I just grabbed some extra paper towels from the break area and waded in. The bread was fresh and the sandwich was still warm from being toasted. I like the chewiness of the bread. It's not prone to getting too soggy or falling apart. The meat had really good flavor and I probably didn't need to double it up...but that's never a bad call. It's like saying there's too much bacon... Really? smh You can never have too much meat. Would I recommend Potbelly? Yes. I'm glad I gave Potbelly another chance. Yes...they're a franchise. Eat local...yada, yada, yada. That being said... The sandwich was really good...probably one of the better "warmed" subs I've had recently. They added a phantom charge to my order when I went through the drive through.When I went back for a reimbursement, I was met with hostility and terrible customer service. They wanted to be dismissive and when called out for it, they wanted to argue. The person who overcharged me had the audacity to tell me to apologize to him for how I mistook him for the one I spoke with on the phone yet I never received an apology from him for the illegal phantom charge. He owed me an apology but yet he didn't see me go out of my way to ask him for one. The entitlement, unprofessionalism, and audacity. I hope he gets fired, not only for the awful customer service but for the illegal practices and because he clearly doesn't know how to do his job. B-bops refuses to apologize for the phantom charge and horrible service. read more

We have had a RECORD amount of people move to Iowa and yet they still can't get people seems a little like the owner does not know what he is doing!!! Got the chicken salad salad here and it was really yummy! Good flavor, not soggy. Had to balance it out with an Oreo milkshake, which was good, but not super flavorful. Skip the shake, go for the salad. read more

We won't be going back. I had a Mediterranean chicken. My partner had a meatball sub. Mine had a blob of hummus at one end. I ordered double chicken. But I looked and I don't think there was even an ounce of chicken in it. It was one of the most anemic subs I e ever ordered. And expensive. It's really not hard to put a sub together. Or weigh out portions. As if the person making it just didn't care. The meatball was dry and tasteless. The chips were good. I only eat out once a week so this was a real disappointment. This not a bad fast food spot at all. It has become a family favorite for a cheap night meal in the new normal. We go fo the pick a pair. Sandwich and soup. Wifey likes the Mediterranean and Chicken tortilla soup while I prefer the turkey club and loaded baked potato soup. The broccoli cheese soup is good too. Food is solid and consistent. Service is very slow and sometimes sloppy. For instance, I like to get The Wreck with peppers. If I order that at this shop, they'll put a fist full of peppers right in the center of the sandwich, which ruins it. If I ask for peppers on the side, they'll put them on the sandwich. We go through the drive through often and it's not uncommon to wait 10 minutes or more without anyone ahead of us. Why do we continue to go here? Because we look past the failures of the staff, because the sandwiches are good if you stick to the basics and put up with the wait. read more

Stopped in the downtown location. I got there about 11:30 on a Monday and had a short wait to order. I agree with Herman R. It does remind me of Quiznos. I ordered a pizza sandwich, chips and a drink. The sandwich came hot in a short amount of time. Nothing super special. First time patron of this chain. I checked on line to see the menu. Found a sandwich that looked yummy. They called it a clubby. Got in the store and it wasnt on the menu. But the nice lady behind the counter knew what it was. Called it an underground menu item. Like the mcchicken mac or something..anyway ham and Turkey. Topped with bacon, tomatoes, lettuce, and ranch dressing. Pretty good sandwich..it was served hot with melted provolone cheese..got the mesquite bbq chip. They were alright but nothing to die for. And I got a water in the standard punishment cup size..overall great meal..also got a bogo sandwich offer on the receipt if I used it in the next 2 days. My wife and I decided to finally give this place a try. After looking over the menu I decided to try the Italian and my wife decided to try the clubby. My wife wanted a pickle and some mac an cheese and I just wanted some chili mac and cheese. I ordered online and went to go pick it up. They read off my order to me when I got there and everything seamed in order so I picked up my bag and left. When I got home I went through the bag and split up all the items. What I hadn't realized was what they had marked as mac and cheese was just a cup of chili but the chili mac and cheese was correct. Not the end of the world just not what we ordered.I really liked the chili mac and cheese and the chili was ok. The sandwiches were ok the Italian was a good sandwich but the bread was not what I expected and it was very dry. My wife said the clubby was ok but she also was not a big fan of the bread. She really enjoyed the pickle and she liked the chili mac and cheese. With alot of other good sandwich shops here in town I am not sure this is one I will return to. read more

Ignore all the previous reviews ! I am from Illinois and I know Potbelly! This is a great Potbelly! Remember you get what you ask for! I walked into this newer Potbelly on SuperBowl Sunday afternoon and loved the picture of gymnast Shawn Johnson. The atmosphere here is great! I ordered a bowl of chili and broccoli cheddar soup. I also ordered an uptown chicken salad with provolone instead of blue cheese and extra fat free vinaigrette. I also asked for extra cranberries and croutons (homemade in store) on my salad. I ordered a big wreck on multigrain and a tky on multigrain. I asked for only extra lettuce and onion on the wreck. I asked for extra lettuce, onion, tomato, pickle, on the tky. I asked for extra ranch dressing on the side and crackers for the soups. Every employee I encountered delivered on all my requests ! I had to wait for some fresh croutons but I didn't mind the wait. All the employees delivered a remarkable customer service experience. A few employees told me about downloading the Potbelly app for a free cookie or other food item. I'll definitely be downloading the app. I am a huge fan of this location ! I highly recommend this Potbelly this anyone ! Don't forget to try their underground menu items including the wrecking ball and the Elvis ! This location will deliver for orders $25 or more and has a drive thru! read more

I work right across the street so this is a place that I frequent. I've never had a bad sandwich from here before. Everything is delicious in my opinion(except the voodoo heat chips.....) the reason that I'm giving this place 4 instead of 5 is the wait. This isn't a quick place to get ur sandwich, u wait an excessively long time in my opinion for it being a sub shop. Usually 4-5 min in the drive thru and longer if u go inside and there's even one person ordering. Unfortunately, this Potbelly is not nearly as good as others across the country. We have ate at the Mills one a couple of times, trying to give it a fair chance. If you eat inside, the staff is rude and the tables are dirty. If you go through the drive-through, your order will be messed up beyond recognition. It was frustrating to get home with messed up orders, so we called and spoke to a manager. They wanted our name, address, phone number in order to send us coupons for free sandwiches... that was weeks ago. Still no coupons. Located in a strip on Mills Civic, Potbelly reminds me of Quiznos. Order the sandwich, put it through a oven toaster conveyor belt, add the toppings and be on your way. There are 2 or 3 choices on the size of your sandwich. I would like to say it was fantastic...but it wasn't. But then it wasn't bad either. I was greeted entering the store and got what I ordered (despite the tomatoes but that's an easy pick off!) the place is clean and someone walked around to ask how everything was. I usually love this chain and have never had problems before. We stopped here and ordered the usual turkey sandwich and both my friend and I had to toss our sandwich after a few bites because they tasted off. We got turkey and it was shredded and tasted more like tuna. The bacon also was hardly cooked. The staff was also not friendly and you could tell they didn't want to be there. While I would go back to this chain, I won't visit this location again. read more

2 in a row bad delivery experiences - with our world having made it through COVID with delivery, this company - especially Mills Civic location should have the technology perfect by now! First time - let me order even though they had closed down delivery for the day. Second time - ordered and it was 1 hour past delivery time - I was told they tried to delivery and call me - but it was not the address on my order or phone number - PLUS the computer tracking said the order was still being processed. They finally blamed it on the new delivery system. So what is the truth? TERRIBLE SERVICE for such a great product. Disappointed. Hey, most consumers just want communication when there are problems and an apology, but now-a-days that even too much to ask. Sad. Get your technology together and train your employees to call the customer and no make excuses, just be honest. I was given the run-around. Advice, order over phone - don't trust their system. Interesting how these corporate restaurant shove training and customer service down their employees throats but are always the worse at it! read more

They do need some more training on the cash registers so they have less overcharges and triplicate charges on the app billing that takes two months to correct. I also had a BOGO coupon and the kid said it was only good on the original. The next day I used another BOGO and it was good on any sandwich with the same guy working. Someone needs to tell them what they are supposed to do. After a month they should know what they are supposed to do. They again overcharged me when they charge me through the app. I had a free cookie on it. The guy said do you want to use the free cookie. Then when I got home and saw what he did I saw that he charged my card for the cookie. I haven't been back yet since it is a long drive just to have them correct their overcharges. They don't give you a receipt in the store so you don't know what they screwed up until you get home. read more

First experience with this chain. The order process wasn't too clear. The menu is super high so it makes it annoying to read. I went with the classic pulled pork with slaw on multi-grain. My spouse ordered the Italian. The guy asking about our sandwich toppings never opened his eyes when he looked at us. I thought for a moment that he was blind but then other activities that he did didn't add up with blindness. It was just weird. We got two bags of their brand dill pickle chips. The food was delicious, but the employees were rude. Comments made regarding the amount of food you order and things said on mic entering the drive thrus are not appropriate. Employees with intentional rude behavior should not be tolerated. With a big family, going to get lunch means a large order. If you don't want to work for the money you make and to satisfy the customer, don't work. read more
