I recently helped a close friend plan her wedding up near Mendocino. When we set out to find a caterer for the wedding we never thought we'd find a team who would be so amazing (and fun) to work with and also just absolutely nail the food. Potliquor's owners (and chefs) Laura and Jennifer and their team are amazing. They were incredibly flexible as we worked through menu options and how to keep costs under control leading up to the wedding. The tastings were an experience in their own - great food in their beautiful kitchen. They were responsive to requests for allergy alterations (not kidding, we asked them to accommodate: dairy free, gluten free, almond free, mustard free, celery free, and vegetarian options) The wedding was in a remote location with pretty minimal facilities. Laura and Jennifer rolled with the situation incredibly well, making due with a single sink, a grill and a gas stove. Their team literally did all of the prep work in a barn. And they did it all with smiles and excitement. One of our guests used to cook at Chez Panisse and she wrote an email after the wedding saying the food was "exceptional". And a number of guests commented that it was the best food they've ever had at a wedding. We agree wholeheartedly. The food was delicious and also beautifully presented. We could not have imaged a more perfect team to work with. Many thanks to Potliquor and staff for making dinner a highlight of the event!

Jennifer catered my wedding, and I couldn't have asked for anything more! Her food is phenomenal, and her calm demeanor and friendly personality really helped me step back and enjoy being a non-chaotic bride! Jennifer worked with our budget and our wish to host a filling vegetarian meal. After discussion and a delicious tasting, we settled on tomato panzanella, a bean and mushroom medley, fall salad, and ricotta tart. Jennifer also coordinated the rentals, the bar, and the day-of set-up, and her entire staff were personable and couldn't have been nicer. We had 110 people (give or take a few) on the big day, and we served everything family-style, which allowed our guests to really chat and unwind--no buffet tables here! Afterward, everyone raved about how this was the best wedding food ever. If you're looking for a caterer fit for foodies, Jennifer is your gal.

You want a huge campout wedding in the middle of nowhere with meat cooked over a giant fire pit? Jen will do that for you. You want a full dinner for 150 people on a working pier (think: merchant marine ships docked outside) with no kitchen and limited running water? Jen will do that too. How about a Thanksgiving dinner in middle of Death Valley, miles from anything civilized? Jen's on that. You want to wow your East Coast relatives with California style and the freshest, most delicious ingredients? Maybe you also want someone who respects both your budget and whatever crazy dreams you might have had for that special event? A calm, collected crew of people who keep a sense of humor during chaos while making excellent cocktails? Jen will also cater business lunches, do launch parties, and all that other normal stuff. But I don't know who else we would have gone to for our magic wedding on the pier. Jen just catered our wedding and did all that -- besides pleasing even the people who thought they'd starve during a vegetarian meal. The menu Passed appetizers shots of chiogga borscht with crme fraiche and herbs eggplant salad on brown bread with paprika grilled sharp cheddar with apple chutney on walnut levain stuffed eggs with summer herbs Family-style dinner grilled vegetables with salsa verde (eggplant, summer squash, sweet potatoes, fennel, asparagus) baby greens, plums, pistachios and saba vinaigrette panzanella: heirloom tomato and bread salad with basil, torpedo onions and red wine vinaigrette sheep's milk ricotta tart with pine nuts and figs potato salad with mustard and caramelized onions fresh fruit (served with dessert made by my aunt)

We gave Jennifer the heads up, and she figured out how to make everything using the grill as a back-up plan.

I had the salmon, fried prawns, mac and cheese, and cabbage. Everything we tried was flavorful, fresh, and cooked with care. The standout items were the blackened shrimp and the crab. The butter sauce covering the crab was absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. The salmon was cooked exactly the way salmon should be--moist, flaky, and tender. Too many restaurants overcook salmon and dry it out in the center, but Chef Smelly's got it right. The fried prawns paired perfectly with their sweet chili sauce, which was a nice change from the usual tartar sauce. The sides held their own. The mac and cheese was creamy with great texture, and while I won't call it the best I've ever had, it was very good. The cabbage was excellent, but the collard greens were the real surprise. They reminded me of my mother's homemade greens, and that's not a compliment I give lightly. If you're from the South, you know how hard it is to find greens that taste like they came from someone's family kitchen. The service was attentive, friendly, and hospitable throughout the meal. More importantly, the food was consistently good from start to finish. Bottom line: Chef Smelly's is worth the visit. Great flavor, quality ingredients, and food that feels like it was made with pride. We'll definitely be back and would gladly recommend it to others.

It was a little hard to find because the bldg had a sign that says "AU" and not the actual name of the restaurant. We were greeted as soon as we got to the front and were seated right away. The ambiance was nice. The place was clean. We opted to get the hot honey chili prawns for an appetizer and it was pretty good. Hubby got his fried catfish w/ collard greens and yams. I got the fried red snapper w/ the mac n cheese and yams for our main entree. The food came pretty fast and hot. Pretty big servings also which made it ok since they priced each at $31. The fish tasted great, the only problem was they switched our fish. The yams were good and collards were ok. Mac n cheese we didn't really care for. Excellent service and I would say the food was ok. **I ordered the red snapper w/ mac n cheese n yams and my husband ordered catfish w/ collards n yams. I ended up w/ the catfish and he was given the snapper. We were halfway w/ our meal when he said I think u have my catfish. Not saying anything bad about the restaurant, it's just our fish was not with the correct sides and we had it mixed up. ** Both fish were cooked to perfection and tasted great. Just the sides were just ok.

I had heard of them before because a friend used them for their wedding, and since I plan events for a living, I've worked with a lot of caterers. For my own event though, price mattered a lot, but I still wanted really good food. After reaching out to a bunch of places, I went with Havana because I had tried their food before and their pricing was very reasonable. We ordered full trays of adobo chicken, lechon roasted pork, crispy tofu, paella, sofrito rice, black beans, corn, poblano mac and cheese, and plantains. I did bring in one dish from another restaurant, Jamaican oxtail, just because I know my guests are big foodies. The biggest hits from Havana were definitely the poblano mac and cheese, lechon, and the paella. Honestly, the mac and cheese was the standout. Everyone kept going back for it and I wish I had ordered an extra tray. What really stood out to me though was the delivery experience. The driver called me ahead of time, brought everything in, and set it all up. He opened the trays with gloves, added sauces, arranged everything nicely, and even put out utensils and labels. I've had plenty of catering deliveries before and this was easily one of the best. He was just genuinely kind and went above and beyond, and it made a big difference. Overall, everything went smoothly, the food was great, and I would definitely order from them again.
