Passengers are bussed to…read moreother metro stops via a coach bus that is either express or makes stops prior to arriving at Southern Avenue Metro Station. There is a lot of congestion for people leaving and entering since there are only a few entry points. People don't have their fare card out or find out when trying to enter/exit they have no funds on their card and have to get out of the way. The people who are supposed to clean the train do so haphazardly and do enough to look busy. Sadly, people are disrespectful and smoke marijuana on the train with no regard to kids, elders or nonsmokers. Keep your head on a swivel. When school is in session, the teenagers that ride the train are rude, can be aggressive and love to put their bags or feet in the seat when there are seniors or working folks who'd like to take a load off of their tired feet. Best advice is to keep the peace unless you have to speak up. Fare evading is real. Those who do it, do so blatantly. Security on the train is minimal and you shouldn't expect them to do much. Out of necessity, people ride the train and if other options were viable, they'd probably reconsider. However, it's a benefit to have a metro system as an alternative to driving and having to search for parking that has inflated prices.

First time, the bus arrived late and that same ride there was a homeless guy on the bus yelling at everyone racist slurs. Second time, the bus stunk because some people started smoking on the bus. I guess bus drivers don't actually care about the bus laws because they could've just thrown these people off the bus. Instead I had miserable rides back to my hotel.

I've been riding this public transit nt entire life. However the last five weeks have been such a headache from WMATA's customer service that it's really made me consider if I need to just suck it up and drive into DC or take the bus. I used the SmartTrip app to reload my MetroCard and for over a MONTH the funds have been "pending". I called WMATA customer service, I emailed them multiple times, and even reached out to their official Reddit account. And I've been ignored, invalidated, gaslit a couple times, and some instances I've been disrespected by staff that clearly didn't want to be at work. I've always come with a level head but firm tone given how many times I've contacted WMATA and they have not resolved my issue. I'm irate and feel very disrespected and expected more from WMATA. As of 04/17 this issue still hasn't been resolved.

My kid goes…read moreto school about a 15min drive from home, but no one is able to pick him up and he's too young to take the multiple busses it would take to get home. I used the YC mobile app & web app twice to get him a ride. Both times it said the driver would arrive in 4 mins--guess that's their default--but actually arrived in 15+ mins. When you book, they just tell you the ride is confirmed, but don't give you any information about the driver or how long it'll take for a few good long minutes. After a loooong wait, it says your driver is 4 mins away. The last time I booked with them, I watched the car on the app that had confirmed just sit, not move an inch, for probably 5 minutes solid. Geographically he was super close. Then for about 8 minutes he just inched along until he did finally reach the neighborhood. BUT, he whizzed right by the school and went down the street and just sat there. I called the service number 3 times-- it's just an automated machine. You can request to speak to the driver. Each of the three times I selected it, hoping to let him know that the school was behind him, it ring once and then hung up. After waiting for 16 minutes total for a car that was in the beginning had been like a 6-minute drive away, I cancelled the ride and ordered an uber for $8 more, which arrived in precisely 4 minutes.

So I gave them another so I booked a ride several days in advance of my scheduled clinic appointment. Today I'm waiting to hear from Yellow Cab that my ride's on the way or it's arrived. Nothing! The time I'm supposed to arrive at the clinic! Whomever I was talking to just kept repeating that my ride's for 10:45am. I hung up cursing. I get a call saying that cat # whatever is on the way. OK. Maybe this won't be too bad. Cab picks me up at approximately 10:37. On the way I see his meter running so I ask if I'm being charged for this ride? I most definitely am. So I'm being charged twice for the same ride! I'm totally and completely done with Yellow Cab!

There is a few hotels within walking distance and many stores and eateries. You can totally make Alexandria your main hub to get in and out of DC. The area is quiet and peaceful at times. The station has vending machines, pew seating, bench seating, a covered area while you wait for the train. When you get off there is two ways to get to the other side of the track. One is walking across the tracks... safely. The other is the underground tunnel and stairs. There is also restrooms, and a few parking spots. I've never had any issues with staff. They run a tight ship and get travelers in and out and where they need to be. Educate yourself the best you can with process and it will help. Asking questions also helps. HOT TIP: If you're not in a rush, have someone pick you up 15-20 min after your your train arrives. Less hassle with other cars around. I just sit and watch the trains come and go while I wait. People watch too.
