PGC is our neighborhood nursery. While they don't have everything we need, we find most of what we need here. And they offer a great guarantee policy if your plants are sick or a dud. Things I love about PGC... 1. The staff that works on the floor are super helpful and knowledgeable. We've probably asked numerous questions that could have been easily googled, and they still humor us every time by going above and beyond. 2. There are two resident cats that hang around and sleep on random bags of soil. It's like a where's waldo game and I love it. 3. They had very good COVID protocols set up during the pandemic and in the beginning of reopening. I really appreciated this. 4. There was a period during the pandemic that I was badly injured and had to be in a wheelchair for a bit. Not only is PGC wheelchair accessible, the employees were extremely helpful with being able to bring items to the car for me and to accommodate me as much as I needed. Most prices are reasonable. Some of the pots are overpriced but they tend to have some pretty good sales. Parking is pretty easy even when it's busy. They have a side lot as well as another one in the back.

Beautiful garden center with nice specimen plants, indoor and outdoor plants, planter pots, hanging baskets, and beautiful home decor. Good customer service, fast checkout.

I needed to transport some orchids and came looking for orchid pots with holes on the sides. Not only did they have them, they were $5 each! So much more affordable than the $30 pots on Amazon. You'll able to find a variety of common, easy to grow, indoor plants like dieffenbachias, pothos, and calatheas. They also have cute terrarium plants. I've been multiple times and the staff are always caring and helpful. My only complaint is that they have no basic small pots (like those you would put on your desk). All small pots are expensive home decor looking pieces. It's inconvenient that I always have to go elsewhere to buy these. They've switched to a winter set up so the large tent area housing all the indoor plants is enclosed now instead of the open concept they had in the warmer months.

I quite like the Potomac Garden Center, the staff is knowledgeable about the plants they have much more so than the home improvement stores that get plants in the springtime. They will also replace any plants or give you a refund on any plants that die within a year of buying them with pics of plants or a receipt.

    Part of their beautiful selection!

I had the BEST time at PGC. I found a few plants there that I had been looking for for ages! Everything was so organized and easy to navigate. The indoor store was so cute, and had a lot of really nice items. 10/10 experience!!! Will definitely be returning

The owner, Tom Moseley knows a lot about trees and bushes. Tom knows what kind of soil and how much sunlight is ideal v.s. tolerable for each plant. He is also knowledgeable about common tree diseases and pests (fungus, deer, etc.) and can guide one to a better choice of planting location or type of tree. Spring and fall are great times to plant trees and shrubs. (Late spring/summer heat and winter cold can be bad for a transplant.) We bought a Crepe Myrtle and a Magnolia from him in 2020 and they are both doing well. That is not the case with trees we have bought from others--from them only 1/2 the trees we bought survive 6-months. We returned in October 2022 and bought a flowering Crab Apple tree from the MD Gardens Tree and Shrub Farm. Tom Moseley provides the optional service of planting his trees and we had it done October 7th. This spring (April 2023), it bloomed magnificently. It's worth it to have Tom M plant because he checks the other trees one might have. For example he and his helper noticed we had red/black fuzzy "Wooly Bear" caterpillars at the base of our Crepe Myrtle. He removed them and cut back the undergrowth around the base that encouraged them. On a previous occasion (autumn 2020), he helped us deep fertilize a Plum tree that was sub-par. (The next spring it was thriving.). Mr. Moseley really cares for all trees and shrubs and knows a lot about them. Just call and makes an appointment to drop by; he has very flexible hours.

Cut your own Christmas trees are way overpriced. I was charged $180 for a less than 8 foot tree.read more

Stradler Nurseries came to plant trees on the border between my HOA (Armistead Park) and the HOA next door (Fairfax Landing). As I walked home from dropping my kids off at school at about 9:30am yesterday, I saw a Stradler employee with his coworker picking fruit off my tree and pocketing them IN BROAD DAYLIGHT! Keep in mind that I have a sign saying not to pick because it is stealing. As I approached, they quickly walked away so I could not talk to them, but one of the employees came back the next day with his boss so I confronted him then. After confirming they work for Stradler Nurseries, the employee suddenly said he couldn't speak English. Finally, the employee admitted he was at my house but he was "just looking at the fruit" but not stealing them. The boss repremanded his employee but took no other action. But then why did he gave giant orange fruit in his hands as he walked away?? I'm very disappointed in this company.

We attempted to remove some ourselves but were quickly overwhelmed by the task. I researched native plant landscapers and came across Swamp Rose Co-op. After reaching out, Jeff, one of the owners, came to do a site visit. He was thorough in his presentation of plans and this February we had them come and do bamboo removal and plant some native trees and shrubs to act as a privacy screen. The Swamp Rose team was amazing! They pulled out over 2 tons of bamboo and roots! They planted native trees and shrubs which are thriving. Our backyard woodland meadow dreams are coming true. We have the team coming back in a few weeks to rip out the standard plants seen in the Silver Spring area (liriope, lilies, weeds) to replace with a native garden and we can't wait. One of my favorite aspects of this company is it is a co-op. The employees can be owners, and those who aren't are still paid a living wage as calculated by the MIT living wage calculator. They do excellent work! It is hard to find a native landscaper but this team is fantastic.

However, instead of the full plunger, I only received the handle! When I called the delivery support number, they told me to visit the Gaithersburg store. At the store, I found the plunger I needed, but the cashier couldn't give me a price because there was no barcode--even though the website clearly listed the price as $5.18. After wasting time, I was forced to buy a more expensive plunger. Honestly, it's shocking that such a large store has no proper oversight for shipped items. And it makes me wonder: when Home Depot's own toilets get clogged, do they also try to fix them with just a wooden stick--since that's exactly what they sent me instead of a real plunger? This experience caused wasted time, loss of trust, and a very negative experience. I will avoid ordering online from Home Depot in the future.
