As a long time visitor of the Ikea in Bolingbrook, I was very curious as to what the Schaumburg location was like. I think that there are pros and cons for both locations. Bolingbrook might be easier to access (there is quite a bit of construction around Schaumburg currently) and I would also debate it is not as busy as this location. However, I did notice the Schaumburg store is not only much cleaner and well maintained, but has way more showrooms and creative displays. I guess if I were buying or in a hurry I go to Bolingbrook and if I was meandering and idea hunting I'd go to Schaumburg. The reason why there are so many showrooms is because this store spans three floors and is in fact, one of the largest Ikeas in America! It is huge and even as a veteran Ikea shopper I still got turned around a couple times. One thing that's nice is this store has the ability to stock more items so I found they had all the items I wanted available. I also noticed this location appeared to have customer service at every corner. I don't know if it's because I went on the weekend but I was thoroughly impressed at how well staffed they were and how friendly employees were during our interactions. read more

This is the original Chicagoland IKEA store that I recall visiting back in the day. I find that I prefer the Bolingbrook location nowadays. I found this store to be a little dirtier, more crowded, and a bit chaotic in some areas, like near the restaurant. The food selection in the grocery area seemed more limited, and the vegetarian options I was looking forward to purchasing were out of stock. There was some confusion for me regarding the signs near the restaurant promoting their plant-based hot dog. I went to one of the kiosks to order, but we couldn't find it anywhere. I once again acknowledge that the IKEA Restaurant and IKEA store are two separate entities so I will try my best to speak to the store part. I went to the market area to look for the frozen meatballs that my teenaged daughter wanted for her thermos in her lunchbox for the week, but alas, the freezer section was quite empty. She did choose a box of pretty pink Princess cakes and a bottle of the lingonberry concentrate to drink at home. I didn't pay too much attention to the prices at this visit since there was no stock for me to purchase. Overall, in all of my experiences, the value of the kitchen items, organizational items, and office items has been pretty good and withstood the test of time. Part 1: I visited this location looking for several pieces for my daughter's first apartment. I had several questions and found Ms. Carrie. She was very polite, patient and took time to answer all of my questions. She gave me options on how to order but showed interest in helping me order with her. She explained the payment options as well. She stayed with me through the whole process. She provided amazing customer service. She should be used a roll model as to how a customer should be treated. Prices were reasonable for the type of furniture I was looking for. Total purchase met my budget limits. I placed the order for delivery and financed through IKEA Projekt. The people who work here don't seem happy, and so I blame management for doing a horrible job and making peoples' lived miserable. I was doing a refund with a rep who was very rude and paused and blinked at me slowly because I didn't know they a barcode expires in 24 hours. It was so rude it was almost comical. The experience and interaction with the refund rep continued to go unwell in that she was making me feel stupid for not knowing that she didn't even need that barcode in the first place. It was actually quite manipulative and abusive. I feel pity for her but I feel nothing for management for choosing to let this behavior fly. read more

I love a good IKEA trip, but I tend to enjoy it more when I don't have specific things on my list and I can just wander around to get ideas. It always seems disappointing on trips where I actually need something. I came here this morning (a Sunday) about 15-20 minutes after they opened to look for a new couch that recently was added to their website. It said it was in stock but I couldn't find it on the floor. I also couldn't find any staff in the section (I circled the sofa department for a good 15 minutes). Eventually I wandered over to another department on the other side of the store, which was the first place I could find someone. There were two staff members there and one walked away as I was approaching and she was loudly complaining about having a bad day and being in a mood (relatable, but also the store has been open for like a half hour at this point and there are customers around, so maybe don't broadcast it?). The other employee let me know that the couch wasn't on the floor yet because they're still building them for the display. It would be nice if the website could indicate if big furniture pieces are on display or not, but that's not the store's fault. Maybe it was just post-holiday chaos, but a lot of things weren't where they were supposed to be and a lot of non-holiday items had been picked over. Some things were in multiple places (e.g., I was buying a bunch of glass food and drink storage and I was looking for a bottle in 2 sizes from their website. One was in one section of the store and the other (same brand) was in a totally different section within the kitchen/dining area. I wandered around the first section for like 10 minutes trying to find the smaller version of the bottle because logic would say you would put the same item in different sizes next to each other (and again, I couldn't find an employee to ask). Also, the store was super hot considering that everyone was wearing winter coats, so I was super sweaty by the time I was done. I wanted to get a froyo, but it was "out of stock." That was the case the last two times I was there this fall, too. Their froyo is so good, so it's super sad that they are now McDonalds and always have a broken ice cream machine :( I'll always come here because they have some great go-to items and I like the flexibility of the products, but it can be frustrating if you are on a mission or up against a time clock. read more

The Missus and I have visited occasionally since this store opened. Contemporary Scandinavian furniture is not our thing, but we do enjoy meandering through the maze, especially to smirk at the subtle tongue-in-cheek humor found at every turn (see the accompanying photos). We always start out by insisting, "We don't need anything!" but inevitably depart with tummies full of Swedish meatballs and a cart filled with kitchen gadgets and offbeat doohickeys. Through the years, I've assembled a few of their storage and shelving units. I'm reasonably handy, but for those who prefer, IKEA offers an assembly service and also a home handyman service called "Taskrabbit." We're less enamored with their self-service business model, but on the occasions when we've needed assistance, we've found store personnel to be friendly and knowledgeable. Nearly all of the cashier lanes have been converted to self-checkout, which can be cumbersome for those who purchase multiple large items. The return process is clunky; you need to fill out a form on a touchscreen in order to be assigned a place in line. And the wait can be long. read more

IKEA Schaumburg has been here for over 20 years but still maintains itself as a very popular store. The 3 floored store offers a vast variety of items from lawn & garden, kitchen housewares, furniture, lighting, bedding, imported grocery items (cheese, jams, fish) etc... They do offer custom cabinetry and countertops as well. They also boast a traditional cafeteria where they are known for their Swedish meatballs and fresh baked cinnamon rolls! First impression: It's huge. The biggest Ikea I've been in, though I've only been in a handful of them. It was also crowded. There were no shopping carts to be found on the first two floors, only those irritating plastic shopping baskets on wheels. I don't like them. We finally found some carts on the third floor. Prices at Ikea are always hit or miss. You can find some incredible deals if you are patient and know what you're looking for. I wasn't too impressed with the staff at this location, most seemed a bit cold. The lines were long at the restaurant and I felt claustrophobic the way everyone was crowded around the ordering kiosks. I ordered a bottle of water and had to go hunting for it. It was a confusing set up. The meatballs were pretty good though, as expected. I suppose it was partially our fault, choosing to go shopping on a Sunday. This is strictly for the restaurant. I used to LOVE going to Ikea. Back in the day, when you entered Ikea you were met with the aroma of freshly baked cinnamon rolls. It was like a little welcome hug. After exploring the goods 9n multiple floors, I always enjoyed a nice lunch in the restaurant. I usually got their Swedish meatball entrée. Although it's set up in a sort of self serve style, it was quite civilized, with real silverware and stonewear plates. They also had excellent coffee. Plus. It was very affordable. Well, things have changed: 1. Terrible- cheap tasting coffee 2. They served the hot meal- with gravy- in a cardboard box. 3. They only had plastic and some odd wooden cutlery. 4. The total cost for 3 kid meals, 1 meatball entrée, 1 coffee and a slice of cake was almost $70! I will NEVER set foot in the restaurant again. read more

Ikea was my go to for inexpensive yet stylish decor and furniture, great for clients in a tight budget. The showroom used be be expansive, with interesting vignettes and a huge selection. So WHAT HAPPENED?!?! I was there this week and much is that is gone. The kitchen department seems much smaller and harder to navigate. The office dept is tiny! And what happened to the simple wooden desks that were utilitarian yet chic? None to be found, just tubular metal legs and confusing signage. And an employee who spent the entire time in his computer for the entire 15 mins I was there. Never once asked any one of the 10+ guests if they needed help. The only thing that saved them was their meatball lunch, still delicious and with lovely staff. I left with some 93 cent Easter chocolates and some elderflower preserves. Please fix this Ikea! Went on a Saturday morning and it was not very busy at all. This location is quite large and the restaurant is updated with kiosks and new decor. IKEA provides stylish furniture at an affordable price. It may not last forever but the look and function make it great value. The only negative is the instructions are pictures only which can get frustrating. The nice thing is that if you are missing any pieces you can go to the service and get any replacements. It is a bit difficult to find ikea employees on the floor and the fact you have to walk thru the whole section is inconvenient. Swedish meatballs and cinnamon rolls are a must. read more

"Can you refund this because I didn't anticipate this taking so long?" He did. He didn't offer to look into it. He didn't offer to expedite it. No apologies. No oops. As I was leaving someone asked if I wanted to take a survey, I said "No. But I had a terrible experience" I explained what happened and the lady had no assistance and no apologies for me. So. My teenage son spent hours building a Brimnes two drawer TV stand and was so proud and happy to finish it...only to find that it is defective, with the drawers not closing evenly. What an unbelievable pile of crap! and that's putting it mildly.... So I'm planning a move from California to Oklahoma so I place an order for all my household essentials, with Ikea, two months before I move, just to make sure I get everything on time. The total value of my orders was over $2,000. The day after I move in I am expecting Ikea to deliver my bedding, tableware, pans, plates, towels - in fact - everything need to live. Day of delivery - driver turns up with 3 items and not the 40 on the order, he shrugs his shoulders and admits 'no one knows what is going on'. I call Ikea to complain and one of the managers offered to refund me so I can go buy everything somewhere else..... WOW! I turned down their offer down and insisted they deliver what I had ordered and paid for.To cut a very long story short, I have had 6 redeliveries, 5 cancellations, spent around 2 hours on the phone and live chat and still, even after nearly 4 weeks after the original delivery date, they have not fully fulfilled my original order. Finally, I asked them to cancel my last outstanding order, as I am tired of trying to manage the whole situation - I am still waiting for my money to be retuned, which they have had for our two months. Also, I am not sure wha country 'houses' the live chat, but whoever you 'speak' to has no basic grasp of the English language, making a frustrating experience even worse.If you are desperate and have no other options but to buy from Ikea, sorry about that - if you do have options, run for the hills and spend your hard earned dollars with a decent company, one that has some levels of decent customer service. We drove to the Schaumburg location from our home in Lincoln Park to replace another IKEA sofa in our basement. We purchased both the delivery service as well as the haul away service for over a week in advance due to an upcoming vacation. The sales personnel assured us that the delivery and haul away would take place at the same time Friday, August 22, 2025 and that we would be given a notification an hour before the crew would arrive. We were given a total of 3 minutes. The delivery crew contacted us 3 minutes before they arrived. Luckily we were home, but there is a big difference between 3 minutes and 1 hour. The sofa was delivered, but the delivery crew refused to haul away the old sofa! They told us another crew would come, the NEXT day (Saturday). So much for the same day delivery and haul away service we paid for! Now, it is Saturday morning, and still no word from IKEA as to when they are planning to come to haul away the old sofa. I contacted support, and I was rudely told to "be patient, they will surely come today". So, in other words, wait at home all day on a beautiful Saturday until they deem it convenient to perform a service I paid to have done yesterday? Really? Update: Spoiler Alert, it gets worse. So, after being given no window at all as to when to expect the arrival of the haul away crew, we receive a call letting us know that they would be at our house in 10 MINUTES! We were not at home, we were a 20 minute drive away. My husband told them that he would not be able to get home in 10 minutes. They told us they could wait another 5 minutes more after their arrival. The terrible terrible customer service just continued. My husband rushed home, and was able to catch them. He took them to the basement to show them where the sofa was, it was at this point that he was informed that the sofa had to be disassembled before it could be hauled away. At no point beforehand was it made known to us that this was a condition of the haul away service. In fact, I'm pretty sure the salesperson at IKEA told us that the furniture would be disassembled for us. My husband worked as fast as he could to disassemble the sofa while having the impatient and rude haul away crew constantly remind him that THEY were on a schedule. I wasn't able to explore as there is not wheelchair provided, I wasn't aware that I needed to carry my own wheelchair to shop at a renowned shop such as IKEA. Look. I'm not a fan of IKEA by any stretch of the imagination. Putting together their furniture is like a special kind of torture and makes me want to throw myself into a volcano. But they are relatively cheap. And sometimes you need cheap. I'm also a board gamer and they have a shelf that is the most popular for board gamers. I wanted to get a real wood version of this made instead but it would have cost me nearly 10 times as much so that's a no. So instead I bought a the shelf and paid someone to put it together. I've been reading a lot of the reviews here, and most of the issues that folks have is that it gets very crowded. I usually go on off times because I want to avoid the crowd to enjoy shopping at my own pace. But when shopping at peak times, it does often become an ant farm through the store. IKEA is my go to furniture shopping store when I need a specific thing. For the price, the quality is great! My only beef is the building process for some reason always takes a mission and a half for each item haha. They do have an option to pay for someone to build if needed but if I can do it myself I will. I usually go into the store and go all the way to the top and shop my way down. The top floor is where the restaurant is centered to the shopping area. Then I work my way down, and usually take pictures of all the product numbers so I can grab my big items on the main level as check out. They also have a rehome section where they sell clearance things and things they repurpose with return items. It's super neat to watch them work sometimes. You can also bring home some of the treats from the cafe frozen to make at home by the registers if you want. read more

I do realize there are still supply chain issues, but it is frustrating to see stuff on the floor here that you can't get at any location. The store was super packed when we went around dinner time on a Saturday and we had to weave our way in and our carts and people, many not paying attention to the spaces they were blocking. We will keep trying to see if we are successful in our order but when a sales person checked for us she said they were getting one...JUST ONE of the item we want, sometime next week. My favorite buy here though are the blue Ikea zippered bags and large clear ones. They are great for storing blankets or shoes and for moving kids in and out of dorm rooms and apartments too. read more

Every time I shop at this IKEA location I'm "randomly" selected for an audit of my cart to ensure everything was scanned. The 1st time we were selected on a busy Saturday, I would assume it was random. The 2nd time it happened on a busy Saturday, I was like, "wow, what are the odds?" Tonight on a Thursday evening, I was actually stopped by a staff person and asked if I had scanned a loveseat. She asked me, and only me, if she could see my receipt. Now, I would assume it's just the Black people being singled out, which is very upsetting. How in the world would I expect to walk out of an almost empty IKEA (at 8:20 pm) without paying for a big item such as a loveseat? It's insulting to me. Do I look like I need to steal a $200 display loveseat, which was purchased for my photography studio? Very insulting. I held my composure, but I will definitely be calling corporate tomorrow. Worst store ever. They charged me for a desk I never ordered. Was part of a delivery of other items and trying to return the desk and get a refund took several days and numerous calls. Had to wait at home between the return pickup time windows only to be told last minute that the pickup would happen the next day. Definitely a fun place to explore; I view this more as a museum than a store tbh. It's an experience and a maze for sure. But I still like the products like the hangers and stuff here. IKEA is always pretty good with having cute rugs; my bf got a pretty cool rug for not a bad price. I mean, it feels like an amusement park for adults. The parking lot is even designed that way to make sure you don't lose your car. I think I might have hummed a tune or two and ran inside with excitement. I had been avoiding this place for years out of the fact that it sends my ocd and social anxiety through the roof. Even for a Sunday evening, it wasn't too too bad. I did get lost and overwhelmed a few times. The employees weren't overly helpful if you were trying to figure something out. It also doesn't help that everything is in SWEDISH. My gosh. Looking back on it now I'm not sure how I made it out. For an amateur such as myself, this is key. They have all the furniture on the first floor. In what looks to be a warehouse. Take a picture of the item you want and you will find it with the aisle and bin number located by the item you want. I'm not sure if this applies to every single item but definitely the big ticket items like the new dresser we got. There should definitely be a course in adulting 101 that is dedicated to Ikea shopping! read more

Just a few thoughts: This is still the go-to place to really search for inexpensive "needs" - we bought a few bathroom caddies during our last visit. They were maybe $15 each. There was a little table I wanted but they were out. Yes, some of the stuff is expensive (and is it me, or did I not see the $2 breakfast? It was more expensive this time around.) That said, you need to look around and see what suits you best. Some stuff is overpriced. But for some stuff, it's a good deal - on par or cheaper than Target. Maybe it's the nostalgia of remembering this opening when Iived in Schaumburg (it was a BIG deal).
