Service was very poor as was the selection. The salesman made no attempt to help me. He just dropped the shoes on the floor and stepped back didn't offer any help. I left there and went to REI where I got excellent help and purchased a good pair of shoes. read more

Badly needed a new pair of running shoes. The last pair was sad, very sad...got me through the Covid year and was ready to be retired. Checked in with Waze, headed out. Finally found the store, they moved down the road. Sadly their record/register system had been updated so didn't have my previous purchases BUT, the nice staff member gladly brought out several styles for me to try on. (Review written by my husband who does not have a Yelp account...) As an inexperienced runner with a worn out pair of shoes, I came in, in search of advice and a new pair of shoes. The owner chatted for a minute about my needs before bring out several pairs of shoes, and encouraging me to go out for run around the building, despite steady rain and the accompanying wear on the shoes I was trying. The second or third pair was a great fit, and turned out to be on sale and well within my budget. A few weeks on now, the shoes feel great, I'm running further, and I have zero knee/hamstring pain! I promised myself that if I stuck with running for 3 months, I'd visit a "real" running store wherever we happened to be (we travel full time in an RV) to have my stride evaluated and to purchase a "real" pair of running shoes that would work for my feet, my style, my routine -- no matter what they cost. And I assumed that cost would be high, because I'd be patronizing an independent merchant. We happened to be visiting family in Port Townsend, and Poulsbo Running was my closest contender, so that's where I went. Turns out? I would have happily paid double. I was assisted so expertly and listened to so attentively by Corrie (sp?), that it felt like I was consulting with a friend instead of a sales person. She took a look at my feet as I stood straight in my socks, then brought out three pairs of shoes she thought would work for my pronation style and running habits, made sure each one fit properly while we were inside the store, and then had me run *outside* the store while she watched how my feet fell. I liked all three pairs so much that I did all the testing again a second time before finally deciding on the pair I bought. I was happy to support a local merchant, and thought the $120 price was very reasonable for the quality level of my new shoes. Got home, got online, and you know what? *Same price* for them at major big-box retailers. I couldn't believe it. Great shoes plus the added value of the personalized service I received? Unheard of. Oh, and I've run in the shoes, and they feel perfect. I had none of the foot or knee pain I'd been experiencing in my prior running shoes, and I even cut a few seconds off my usual pace! If you've been hesitant to visit a store like this, and just keep shopping hit-or-miss online to get a "bargain," then do yourself a favor. Walk, run, jog, or stroll to a running store. And if you're on the Kitsap or Olympic Peninsulas, make it this one. read more

I'm running a half marathon in 3 months and my current shoes were giving me blisters. EVERYONE recommended Poulsbo running and they were right! I went in with my 3 yo who generally wrecks shop. Chris was patient, kind and fast! He checked out my gait, found some shoes and had me run in them. It felt 100% different! First time visiting store (and only time), not only was I treated horribly, but the person "assisting" me turned out to be the owner. Horridly and extremely rude, snotty service. For anything athletic, including a good pair of running shoes, I highly DO NOT RECOMMEND this store. I LOVE this store! Brooke and Chris have the best shoe selection. They have great staff that know how to fit shoes for your activity/foot. I'm training for my first marathon, and never once felt overwhelmed, because Poulsbo Running has taken care of me every step. Great running store! I went in with my complicated foot issues, and was amazed with the knowledgable staff. Brooke sat with me, had me try on various brands, take them for a test run around the building, and really walked me through everything from my injuries to my gait, and found me a great pair of running shoes! They weren't pushing the priciest shoes on me, simply the best ones for my feet! Their prices arent the cheapest, but they are competitive, and with the outstanding service, I felt like I got a great value! I can't recommend poulsbo running highly enough, and am so thankful for their help, knowledge and service! read more

I was extremely disappointed. Went in to get a couple of pairs of shoes that met the needs of my feet and walking plans. I gave them some information - they asked me no questions and basically just brought out new version of the shoes I already had. I was the only customer in the store and felt like I was interrupting their social time. Basically, I was left on my own to determine if the shoes were right for what I needed. When I mentioned that one pair hurt my foot, the response was "that's weird". When I left without buying anything, they seemed offended even though they had done nothing. I have shopped at Sound Sports and expected the same level of service since the stores are related but I could have been at Famous Footwear based on the service I received. read more

I do not agree with the other reviews. I have always had great service, and I have been going there since the store has opened. Maybe some people just expect to be babied and waited on hand and foot. I have found they are part of a serious running community, not just "weekend warriors". They sponsor all kinds of events, and are greatly involved in the community. And the owners live here and run it themselves. This is not some big company owned business who can hire x amount of employees to just sit there and wait until the customers come in, then follow them around and nag them until they buy something. read more

Awesome place! I went in thinking how I normally do when I buy shoes, if it fits it'll work. Boy have I been missing out. Chris asked me some questions about what I'm going to be doing in them, which I'm not one to go out and run marathons. I told him about the kind of workouts I do which is weight training and treadmill work, I gave him my size and he came out with a couple different options. He asked about how my feet felt during my workouts as I tried on the first shoe and ran in them. He then had me try on a second shoe that had a little more cushion, that was the one I bought. As soon as I took a couple steps I could tell they were the ones! In all I was extremely pleased with the service I received. Chris found the perfect shoe for what I do, and the guy knows his stuff, wether you need more support, if you should have a wider shoe, lower to the ground etc. I'd highly recommend Poulsbo Running to anyone who is looking a new set of kicks! They also have a bunch of other things there as well that I didn't get around to checking out. I won't be buying workout shoes anywhere else!! read more

I couldn't disagree with the previous post more. As a resident of Kitsap county and avid runner, I have found poulsbo running and the owners to be anything but snotty and rude. The owners and staff are bright, well-informed, outgoing people. The store has a great selection of shoes, apparel, energy gels and accessories. If you don't know what shoes to buy, they watch you run, look at your arches and give you a few pairs to try that might work well for your biomechanics. check it out for yourself! read more

Not sure what happened to e.w. and s.g. maybe they should try being a bit nicer themselves. sometimes people make themselves unapproachable. Good selection of running gear, but terrible customer service. Went into Poulsbo Running this weekend to buy a pair of running shorts; got a brief "hello" as I walked in the store but not another word or offer of help the entire time I was in the store. Perhaps the two employees were overwhelmed with the one other customer present. Next time I will go to a store that cares. These guys don't have a clue what customer service is. read more
