I asked the salesperson to adjust the straps to fit my head. He could barely be bothered - even though he clearly had plenty of experience. He would make a single adjustment and then start to put the helmet back in its box. It required several more adjustments and a great deal of continuous persistence to achieve an adequate fit and correct alignment. I realize my purchase may have offered a negligible profit margin compared to other store merchandise, but the conspicuous lack of concern for my cycling safety will keep me from making any future purchases here. read more

We rented e-bikes from this shop last Saturday. We stopped in after hoping out of the car for a walk and noticing that our jogger stroller tires were completely flat. The staff kindly filled our tires and even took the time to fix one of our valves which was completely pushed into the tire. Service was fast and quality. Would totally stop by again. A couple of weeks ago I got up the courage to venture into the BI Cycle Shop and express my interest in purchasing an electric bicycle. I am 68 yrs old and want to still enjoy a nice ride, but Bainbridge has some killer hills and my boots are not made for walking. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was helped out by Christopher who let me test ride numerous EV models - from the premium $5,000 Cadillacs down to $2,000 more than adequate model.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I selected a cute AIMA Big Sur because it is easy to ride, small enough to keep my elderly wimp balance, and could fit inside my electric car, which is not equipped with a bicycle rack. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Christopher was cheerful, zero pressure and low key.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was also assisted by Cassandra who selected a helmet, locking chain and cycle lube.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I came in a few years earlier and frankly did not like the staff nor the cluttered mess of a layout. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I met the new owner Heremy. Super nice. Sold me without pressure.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They loaded me up and after a mirror busted off at my house, replaced it free of charge and showed me some helpful pointers. It was a great experience. This is a solid bicycle shop. Great selection, knowledgeable and best of all -- cheerful and polite. This is new ownership. They are good before, during, and after the sale. Bainbridge Island Cycle Shop - Bikes Near Me - Bainbridge Island, Washington

Shop staff are very polite and shop carries good bicycles. The shop staff are not honest though. They are very creative in avoiding work and avoiding honoring warranty claims. Be warry. story below: 2 days after purchasing my Salas Cutthroat the breaks kept incessantly squealing even when not in operation. The noise was like nails on a chalk board and would come and go. I would take the 2 hour round trip drive to the shop to have them fix it, but each time they would say, "o that is normal for disc brakes, try doing X" I would do as they suggested, and the problem would return within a few days. Eventually I just gave up, and would force the break pads fully open with a screwdriver before every ride, and hope the sticky piston would not wander back onto the rotor before my ride ended. The shop would not acknowledge the existence of my problem and they were to far away for me to keep going back. This was disappointing since it was a bike in the mid $2000 range, and I expect it to work perfect when new for that price. 1 year after purchase my crank arm fell off 5 miles into an 80 mile ride in the wilderness. Such an occurrence is rare, and suggest improper assembly. The bolt holding the crank lost 5 threads upon separation from the crank assembly. I placed the stripped bolt back on the next day so I would be able to try again. After I took this bike back to BI Cycle and asked them to replace the bolt and fix the breaks as a warranty item. They claimed that they could only do so much to fix the brakes. They don't rebuild breaks because there is no money in that procedure, and it would be cheaper to replace them entirely. They assured me that they would find a way to fix it without doing that. To avoid conflict when they seemed ready to help, I did not tell them that replacing the breaks would be a satisfactory solution, and that I did not expect them to make money since it was a warranty issue. I was lead to believe fixing the breaks would involve cleaning the pistons, and working them back and forth till the lazy one unstuck. I got a call from BI Cycle explaining that the bolt was not stripped. I told them to check again. I said "I saw the stripped threads, and pulled out the missing threads before reassembling it." It is a black anodized bolt and damage should be obvious since it appears metallic silver when striped. See the my bolt photo. They held onto my two bikes for a month. (They were supposed to be fixing the other one but decided it was to difficult and did not). When they finally finished, and I made the 2 hour trip to pick them up I was shocked to find out they had fixed nothing, and wanted $40 to release the bikes for their labor. The sticky break piston was coated in dirt, and it still rubbed slightly. I saw no evidence of work done on it. They insisted that they removed the crank arm a second time to check the bolt, and that it was intact. They absolutely refused to release the bikes to me without me paying their bill. I regret not grabbing them and walking away with them while they watched. On my way out I let them know I would leave a very negative review for this. They seemed indignant but claimed they would inquire if Salsa had any solution for the breaks on my behalf if that would make me feel better. I never heard back. I took the bike to my local mechanic to have the bolt replaced and the problem documented. He agreed that this should have been easy to spot and fix. It cost me about another $40 to actually fix the crank arm. I figure BI Cycle now owes me $80, and about 12 hours of my life for all the times I made trips to their shop for these problems. I do not consider the bolt to be a petty problem. It is an aluminum bolt torqued to 45 NM. If it fell out again and lost more threads I could end up on another very long walk home out of the wilderness. To their possible credit the slight residual break rubbing has ceased instead of growing worse, and has not returned. It was always a phantom problem. I have not been riding that bike much in the last few months, so it may still return. I think I will post a google review as well. Customers should know about this. read more

I went in to look at road bikes to replace one that was getting very old. I knew in general what I wanted. The first person I dealt with was young and honest enough, but couldn't close the sale because they didn't have what I wanted in my frame size. Then an older gentleman came over and wanted to change a bike to fit me by changing the seat and handlebar height. It wasn't what I wanted but he didn't seem to want to take "no" for an answer. I just left, of course. But it wasn't a good experience, and had I not known something about frame sizes, tire sizes, and gear ratios he would have been happy to sell me something I didn't want. My advice is to shop around before you purchase any bike. read more

I discovered that I had a flat while I was looking around Winslow. I walked my bike over to the cycle shop. They had what was needed to repair it and said they could get it done right away. I was so grateful. They had it done within the hour and even tightened my brakes for me. Friendly staff. read more

Ya know I love this shop. I've lived in 5 states and this is the best bike shop I've experienced. I have not bought a bike for myself here, but I've bought all my kids bikes, and had both my wife and I's road and mountain bikes serviced here. The customer service is absolutely the best and the prices are amazing for a small town shop. The service department and the customer service are great. Sometimes when you go to a "local's" shop you get crappy service and bad attitude but not here. This play has an amazing experience second only to Mellow Johnny's in Austin (aka Lance Armstrong). If they had a Coffee shop they would kill MJ's. So proof is in the pudding as they say. I ordered a bike for my daughter recently. With all the Coronavirus stuff going on I figured it would be a few weeks. They got the bike in, called and told me it was received, and the told me due to the backlog it would be 3-4 days to assemble (God bless all the locals getting work done to keep this awesome team busy). I was cool with it, representing local businesses, and after it was done the owner called and said it was ready. Next step customer service he offered to deliver it personally to my door... WHAT!!!! In this day and age where do you get that service??? NOWHERE!!!! So, do not walk but RUN to this place for your next bike. I am really wanting a hard tail and the first place I will stop in is here. Do yourself a favor, and do the Same and buy or service you bike here. read more

When I was looking to buy a new bicycle for our 8-year old son, I made a point of stopping by both cycling shops on Bainbridge - Classic Cycle and BI Cycle. I can see how serious riders love Classic Cycle - it's a stunning place inside, but as a dad looking for a kid's bike (even one for $300) I felt like the person who was answering my very basic, haven't-ridden-a-bike-in-ten-years questions was just barely concealing his annoyance. In stark contrast, the people at BI Cycle couldn't have been more pleasant, helpful, and seemed genuinely interested in securing my business. Needless to say, they succeeded. Two months later I decided to sell my car and start commuting to work by bike, so I took in my 10 year-old Giant hybrid (seriously, it's been 10 years) for a tune-up, an operation that ultimately involved all new cables and tires. The work was quick, reasonably priced, and not once did I feel like I was being sold something I didn't need (in fact, in a discussion about tires they argued AGAINST buying the more expensive brand, saying I could always upgrade at a later date.) I've since purchased front and rear lights, a rack, mudguards, rain pants, and various and sundry other accessories, all at the 10 percent off they grant customers for 12 months after they purchase a bike at the store. Every time I enter the place - occasionally with my son in tow - the staff are without fail pleasant and friendly. I don't mean to paint BI Cycle as not being for serious cyclists - far from it. They have every accessory you could wish for, and bikes ranging from the aforementioned $300 kids models to others costing $5,000 and up. Our 6-year old daughter's birthday is in two months, and she's lobbying for a bike like her brother's. No prizes for guessing where dad is going to buy it. read more

This is one great bike shop! I needed a bike 'fit' for a new Sirrus X. I'm an older guy and was experiencing hip and knee pain; something wasn't right. Asked Tom Clune to do the 'fit' and now cranking out the miles pain free. The employees in the shop are well versed in all aspects of cycling and they have a wide variety of clothing and accessories in stock. I've adopted them as my bike shop and worth the 90 minute drive to get to there. read more

BI Cycle excels at providing great customer service. The owner and entire staff are very approachable and knowledgeable. Almost all are hardcore bike enthusiasts and really enjoy talking shop and giving advice. Whether buying your first bike, gearing up for the Tour de France or just shopping for some new gear, they know their stuff and can help you choose the best equipment. They also offer rentals if you're just visiting the island for the day, and repairs if your wheels are a little squeaky or that chain keeps falling off and gettin your pants all greasy. read more

This isn't my preferred shop on the Island, but if the other shop didn't exist, I'd be glad to use them as my Local Bike Shop. They're an awesome backup shop for me. I particularly like that they carry a lot of brands that I love and have trouble finding in other shops- especially amongst their commuter apparel and gear, which is well curated. Their bike lines are all high end to match the local clientele... so be aware that your "entry level" option is a upper-mid range Specialized. If you're on a strict budget, you'd be better served by other shops both on and off the island. They seem to have set their business model somewhere between "local bike shop" and "bicycle studio". Depending on your personality, you might find that good or bad. If you are a skier, they have an in-house ski tuning service during the winter. The next closest place to get your skis serviced is 45 minutes away in Silverdale. Their ski tuning prices are very fair and the turnaround is prompt. I highly recommend them if you're an Island skier or boarder. The one warning I'd give is that while their staff is always friendly and helpful once you have their attention, they have a tendency to be overwhelmed whenever I stop in and getting their attention can sometimes prove to be a challenge... especially during commuter peak hours (3-6 pm on a weekday). Don't drop in thinking you'll be there for five minutes and still be able to catch your ferry. The deliberate pace extends to their bicycle repair turnaround time, which seems to always be a bit longer than the other shop on Island, although never unacceptably slow. read more

I rode my bike over to bainbridge and like a fool, I forgot to bring my tools. My front wheel had been loose and when I tightened it up, the front calipers were all a mess. They bailed me out when I would have been otherwise stranded. Thanks for the help! read more

Were it not for a recent (last week) utterly unpleasant experience with a sales associate, I would give them 4 stars. If I could give 2.5 stars now (after my bad experience), I would. First, the good: They carry the Ibex brand of clothes -- lovely light weight wool jerseys and cycling pants (there aren't women's bibs so I buy a small in the men's bibs, which works fine). I also had a very nice experience with a friendly and knowledgeable sales associate and other staff last year when I purchased a Felt carbon bike. Now, the not so good: I was on a ride last week and wanted to purchase a new saddle for old Trek bike I was riding, so we stopped in BI Cycle. I told the sales associate that I wanted a saddle similar to the one on my Felt -- I told him I didn't know whether it came stock with the bike or I bought it separately. His answer was "I don't know." Not, let me look it up in the computer for you or let me look at the spec sheet for the bike you bought ... Next, I walked over to the women's Felt bikes they had on the floor and told him that the saddle on one of the bikes was the one or close to the one I had. When I asked whether they had any similar saddle in stock his response was "I don't know what saddle is on your Felt." I am abbreviating the discussion -- it was actually an excruciating 2-3 minute exchange with him saying nothing more than "I don't know" the entire time. He was, evidently, in no mood to actually help or sell me anything that day. I turned around, rode my bike to Classic Cycle, bought a nice high-end saddle and completed a nice ride. Another not so great: My husband has a Cervelo and a Seven and was looking to buy a new bike. Tom at BI Cycle told him he'd have an Orbea for him to ride the next weekend (this weekend) and that he'd call him. My husband never heard from him or anyone else at BI Cycle (and since we'd had such a bad experience there last week he didn't call them either) and he ended up buying a Lynskey bike from Classic Cycle yesterday. The owner at Classic Cycle (Jeff) went out of the way to help my husband choose his new bike by offering up his own Lynskey and by going and picking up a customer's Moots bike for a test ride. I'm taking an extended break from BI Cycle. read more

I was in Bainbridge for a few days. My friend recommeded B.I. to purchase some gloves and toe covers I knew I would need for riding while there........I hooked up with their local group ride on a Saturday, lead by Tom, the owner of B.I......someone told me they were the "Geezer of Fury"....LoL......yeah, don't let the name fool you.....on a freezing cold December morning I got to see parts of the Kitsap Peninsula I can guarantee I would not have seen had I been riding alone, with amazing views of Olympic NP and Mt. Baker. A hot cup of coffee with the group, while in Poulsbo, sealed the deal. Tom loaned me an extra jacket to keep my feeble Tucson body warm. The B.I. group, and B.I. staff, are welcoming and make you feel right at home. I will be back, and soon, but probably when the weather is warmer! read more

I took the ferry over to Bainbridge because I thought I wanted Bike Friday folding bike, and they are the local dealers. Gabriel asked me what my needs were, and helped me understand that I could get a regular, lightweight bike that I could carry on a bike rack. I had thought that most bikes would be too heavy for me to lift onto a rack. So instead of spending about $2500 on a Bike Friday, it looks like I'll be spending about $750 on a bike that will work just fine. Gabriel is pretty amazing at finding a bike with the right fit. He is just the right combo of expert and non-condescension. A great experience; highly recommend. read more

I already bought 2 bike from them and extremely happy with everything, from the right bike recommendation, to the fitting, to the free advice and repairs. Tom is nothing short of an angel in 2 wheels, David is really dangerous (just kidding) and funny we always have a huge laugh together and does not matter how busy they are they always treat you like you are the only one in the store. They treat me really like an extended family, a real community store to the point that I would rather pay 3x just for the experience of walking into the store. There is something fundamentally wrong with a store not having a charge back return policy accommodating of the return of an off-the-shelf retail good (in pristine condition with receipt of purchase), when an item is not the right product for a customer. I feel I was somewhat swindled into trying out a pair of the highest end spin shoes, sans cleats, without being notified by the clerk at the time of sale that the store policy is returns are issued as store credit only. The first pair brought by the clerk for me to try on was of a less expensive shoe in the same line. However, one shoe of that pair's ratchet clasp was broken, so I was up-sold to the next much more expensive shoe in the line. I had and voiced a reservation about how high the back of the shoe was, in that it was rubbing my currently inflamed Achilles on my one foot. I really preferred the first shoe, for its lower rise and less rub on that heel, but was afraid to commit to ordering in my size in, because the brand-new pair of that model that was brought out for me to try on had a broken ratchet clasp. The clerk persuaded me at the time that I should try the taller more expensive shoes out for a couple of days, being sure to walk around indoors at home only. That way, I could see if my Achilles would still be aggravated by the shoes or not and if they didn't work out I could bring them back and return them, no problem because they had not been worn outside. And if they did work out, they could put spinning bike SPD cleats on the shoes for me at that point. Cleats are a separate additional cost, too. At no point did the clerk say anything about their return policy. I would not have bought them to try them out, if I had known their return policy across the board was store credit only. But my husband had advised me it is best to try shoes out at a store, so stupidly I listened to that advice, instead of Amazon-ing from the get go. It is too bad it is these kinds of short-sighted policies that are driving people to virtual storefronts. I prefer to support small businesses, but want to be treated reasonably. BI Cycle's policy does not leave any buyer any room for something that is not working out and is being returned in pristine condition with its paperwork. And what about people who have buyer's remorse? In my case, this shoe was still rubbing my heel in a not good way, causing my remorse. So, I brought the product back two working days later, in pristine immediately restocking condition and in good faith. Most stores allow a two to three-day window of return on goods off-the-shelf returned in pristine condition, with receipt. I can understand a store credit only policy regarding custom orders or services, but not on stocked goods. A charge back on a credit card costs less than losing a customer. But the response I received from the clerk on duty upon my return of these shoes at the store counter was that their return policy is firm and posted. The only sign I noticed at the time of return was under the plexiglass checkout counter protector, which would have been covered up by the box of shoes when I set them on the counter to initially purchase them. Frankly, I feel duped and ripped off. I was so embarrassed and livid when I left that I directly went and checked with a local competitor, who said their store return policy is based on each circumstance. That said the competitor and Amazon Prime will have my future business, after my credit card dispute is resolved (hopefully in my favor). But, I may be held hostage to go back into BI Cycle to use up a stupid, expensive store credit, at a store I don't wish to ever be inside of again in my lifetime. My advice, buyer beware of BI Cycle. read more
