Love the idea of this place! I usually want to try as many beers as possible when Im somewhere new. Now only does this allow me to do that, but I can control how much I have! They have an interesting selection of mass produced craft beers, local stuff, and European imports. I like how they sort the beers from light to dark in flavor. I went from the left side of the room and finished off at the right. Pouring your beer the right way truly helps you from just getting foam, even if its just a 0.5 ounce pour. I noticed the area is a bit small, but I cant expect these places to be built like a warehouse. The beef Gouda melt doesn't look impressive, but the flavor is. Beefy, cheesy, sweet from the onions, buttery from the pressed bread, with this vinegar taste that encapsulates everything. It's what I wanted, and a little more, since it doesn't look great.  The idea of this place alone is awesome. But their selection made it even better. If you have a chance to kill some time here, do it. read more

We had so much fun and can't wait to come back!! We loved trying a variety of beers, wine and cider and watching the Olympics. They also have some board games to play like battleship! The only negative of our experience is we couldn't find a seat for the longest time. With all the games and TVs, it's a place that people are going to stay at for quite awhile so seats are easily a problem when you can't sit outside. Just be aware if you are going on a Friday or Saturday night! read more

Sometimes I'm wanting to try a new beer with buying a whole case. I love this place ! You pay for your beer by the ounce. What a clever idea! Its the perfect spot for you to come with some friends or even a date! They have indoor and outdoor seating. They don't have a kitchen but if you want food they've partnered a nearby business called "Bulldega Urban Market" so you can order using their digital menu and they'll bring the food right over! I've felt guilty lately because I've been visiting a lot of places & just haven't been inspired to write a review but Pour Taproom definitely shook me out of my writers block tonight! As a beer novice I've never been to a place quite like this so lemme tell you how it goes. The space is industrial with a neighborhood feel, there were long tables & some people playing cards against humanity when we first walked in- my type of crowd. On entrance you head to the register to get your pour bracelet, this is used to activate the tap & also track your tab. The walls are lined with taps from local ipas to wine, cider & prosecco. similar to apple or samsung pay you lift your bracelet to the "pour" stamp on the tab (see my video) then hit the level & go. Pour charges by the ounce & once you hit a certain amount (sorry i forgot) they will cut you off haha. On thursdays (today) & sundays they have live music. I can't speak for Sunday but tonight's band really drew a crowd to the patio & lots of passers by had to stop & take video. This new craft beer concept is brilliant! Only a few places like this exist in the Triangle. You walk in, get a red wrist band, pick up a glass and start Pouring your own brew. There are many taps with LED screens identifying the beer and price per ounce. It is a bit pricey as a pint of most beers end up being $7 to $9. Your band activates the tap and you get charged per ounce that is poured. What my friends enjoyed most is that you could taste many different beers by just pouring an ounce or two. I don't think I drank a full pint of anything during my visit, but I tasted a large variety. Oh and be sure to pull the beer taps completely forward or you will get way too much foam in the pour. They have everything from ciders, IPAs, and international brews. Off to the right side of the wall is a separate section where you can pour a selection of wines as well. We didn't try the food, but you can order small plates like crab cake sliders or Swedish meatballs. The staff is very helpful in guiding you through the process. Outdoor seating is available too. When you are ready to close out, just go to the front and pay for the tab accumulated on your wrist band. Now, go get your Pour on! read more

Cool concept, lots of variety, great location, and friendly staff! Pour is a family owned business with sites all over North Carolina and one in California. It is a welcome new addition to this burgeoning area of downtown Durham. The technology is also very cool, you get a bracelet and "tap" it to the emblem to get charged a certain amount per ounce. It's a great way to try a bunch of different beers, especially the more weird or rare ones that normally you'd have to commit a whole bottle at a regular bar. The downside is that the price can quickly add up when you do the math on $0.45 to $0.80 per ounce for a 12oz pour. They also a simple food menu that looks quite tasty! Didn't get a chance to try anything as we already had dinner plans, but the food that I saw around me definitely made me want to come back! Most of it are pub style sandwiches and snacks. Been here a few times with friends. I love this concept since I like trying new beers and not necessarily want to drink a glassful of one type. I especially appreciate them having a sour section since I'm a sucker for sour beer. Typically I spend around $13 for a couple hours of fun time. They have a small selection of food too. My only complaint would be that I wish they have adjustable wristbands. I have tiny wrists and the bands always want to fall off... but that's a me problem. read more

As far as bars go, this place is pretty fun. I liked the variety of ciders and wines, in addition to beers. You get a wristband and it's possible to try several different samples before deciding what you want to pour yourself a glass of. There's also water spouts so you can help yourself to water between drinks, which I loved because I didn't have to worry about bothering a bartender for a new glass of water. It's odd because you definitely don't have any idea how much you're paying- the bill at the end was a complete mystery as to how they came up with that number. We got a sandwich and chips, 3 tastes and 4 full drinks for $30, which isn't bad at all but, like I said, a mystery. For many people this could be an issue- I remember being a college student and knowing exactly how much cash I had before an evening out. [Edit: Apparently this is clearly marked and I just missed it, somehow. Oh well! Be sure to ask someone if you're confused and this is a concern.] The sandwich was good, although the guy who took our order acted like we were putting him out majorly. It's kind of loud and there are lots of sports games on at a time. This is fine for most people, but just wanted to mention. This place is perfect for people who drink and don't! We brought my parents who were visiting from out of town (my mom doesn't drink) so we found a seat outdoors and grabbed Jenga (they have quite a selection of table games). Both my parents enjoyed the atmosphere and we were able to try different local beer without wasting anything we didn't like. We simply POURED whatever we wanted to try and then went from there (they have wine too). It's also pet friendly (if you opt to sit outside). Wow! They need one of these in Philadelphia ASAP! You walk in, show ID, get a wrist band, give a card to start a tab, and then you get BUSY trying an awesome selection of ciders, IPAs, light beers, stouts, wines, etc. We LOVED the concept! Being able to pay by the ounce and able to try many different beers without the hassle of bothering the bar tender! There is a 32 oz limit, but you can easily reset the limit by visiting the front desk. They even had "Hopslam" by Bell's Brewery on tap, which is one of my all time favorite IPAs! I may or may not have used 32 ounces on that beer alone! If they opened up a Pour Taproom in Philly tomorrow I would be first in line! read more

Very cool concept. You start a tab with your credit card, and receive wristband. You tap the wristband at the various stations with all kinds of beer (or wine) and choose how much you want to disperse into your glass. The beer (and wine) is priced by the ounce. Make sure you pay attention to how much you are pouring, or you may get a hefty bill. The beer is reasonable but my little glass of wine was kind of expensive. It's a dope way to essentially have your own individual beer tasting. You can try out their huge selection. We also had the beef quesadillas which came with chips. It's good (well seasoned and flavorful), but very basic food that will allow you to gave something on your stomach while you drink. Was looking for a place to grab a few beers and ended up at Pour! Despite covid restrictions this place did not let it ruin the vibe at all. There was plenty of (socially distanced) outdoor seating and the whole place, both inside and out, was so clean. The beer selection was incredibly diverse so everyone in your group will find something they like. I think the owner was working last night while we were there and he was super awesome too. Awesome concept: register to get a wristband. Use the wrist bands to scan and pour yourself drinks. I love their wall of drinks! There are ciders, lagers, IPAs, dark, and wine. I think this place is great because they allow you to pour as much as you would like and you could sample all of the drinks if you would like. I'm a slow drinker, so this place is great for me because I can always pour a half or quester and I can go back to get a fresh pour when I'm done. They have boardgames and it is well lit. This is easily the best (and most low maintenance) bar that I've ever been to. You pay to pour and the only servers are the ones that bring you your food if you order any. The snack boards feature a whole baguette (which is great because most places short you on bread) but the meats & cheeses provided are subpar. The cheeses taste like plastic & there really is no differentiation in flavor between cheddar & gouda. The sliders were ok -- beef was dry & there was not much of it but at least the pickles were great. And lastly, the service was not great. We had not been there before so we had questions about the process. The guy behind the counter seemed annoyed that we were there & that he had to answer any questions. What a great place to come and hangout. Cozy, intimate, or areas for groups. They have you covered. When you enter you're issued a wristband. If it's your first time, a staff member will show you around and help you with how to work the taps. It's simple: choose your selection, put your glass underneath, tap your wristband to the label, pour until you have enough. The amount and price that you just paid will flash on the screen for you to keep mental note of totals. When you're done drinking for the night, bring your wristband up and they'll scan to see how much you owe. And don't worry about ringing up a $60 tab unexpectedly! They have a limit of around $30 before you have to go up and pay so that you don't run up tabs without realizing it. Came here for the end of a crazy New Year's and it was just what we wanted. Chilled out with maybe 6 other people in the room, played some Cards Against Humanity, and then sipped on free champagne once midnight hit. read more

Pro Tip: You can touch the screen of any tap and get a flavor profile of the beer. The prices are all clearly marked on each beer at a per Oz price. It also tells you how much you just poured and what your total pour is for the visit each time you visit a tap. TIL: The spray thing on the drip tray is for chilling your glass, not for cleaning it. The guy working the register was super helpful and friendly. The other customers were an odd mix of chatty, but not wanting to directly interact. I love me a pour of this and that and this place is exactly that concept--slap on a red tech savvy bracelet that is linked to your credit card, align it with the "O" in Pour and start pouring whatever beer of your choice in whatever amount of your choice. That simple, and that awesome. It is a great way to try lots of different types of beers, both local and from far away places, especially as a way to try more experimental styles. Not a beer fan? Well they have some wine and proseco on tap too, so don't you worry! It is a small space and they serve some food (although the charcuterie board we ordered I thought we did not get enough food for the price, particularly if I order cheese it should be more than one little slice....), but they have an outdoor patio area with cornhole and jenga and other board games too. And they have a kid friendly are too if you are looking for that! They also have live music here quite frequently, so it is quickly becoming a nice little, local hang out spot in downtown. It's like Yogurt Land but with beer and wine. Pour has a very unique setup and pricing structure which is at the same time it's biggest appeal , but also a bit confusing part of the process of this place. Pour is like a self-serve frozen yogurt place but with beer, wine and cider and a couple sodas. they have a very large selection that encompasses the entire back wall. It's very eye catching. When you enter the first thing you see is the wall of self serve alcohol which does make Pour a unique experience in the Triangle/ Bull City area. When you enter you give them a credit card to keep on file, they ID you and give you a wristband that you swipe at each drink station to activate it. Without the wristband the dispenser does not work. This is pretty cool but also slightly problematic since it's not very clear on the display screen for each drink selection how much you've consumed or what your total tab is currently at. It seems like something that is always in the house's favor, and could lead to people having some very hefty tabs at the end of the night to pay. Since it's also self serve the more you have to drink clearly the less you'll pay attention to the screen. It seems like a slippery slope for people that are also not very responsible with their alcohol consumption. Since Pour has somewhat of a skeleton crew i'm not sure who is enforcing that or keeping people from consuming more drinks then they should. The biggest issue of all that I couldn't shake is that while Pour has a large selection of glasses to grab from they do ask you to wash out your glass and reuse it as much as possible. I get it, it's eco conscious. There's a little device you put your glass upside down on and it washes them out. It's very nice except it's only washing the inside out and you're putting your mouth on the lip of the glass. The device is only washing the interior of the glass, not the lip. The device is also activated by pressing the lip of the glass down on it, something multiple other people have done before you. I couldn't shake thinking about this. Food wise Pour has a decent selection of things to eat. Not a large menu, but not small enough that you'll go somewhere else for food. I had their grilled cheese sandwich. It was fine. A bit pricey for the size and minimal amount of cheese that was on it. Having the option to add a meat to the grilled cheese would have been nice.Someone I was with got their sausage sandwich which looked pretty good.They have some other sandwiches and a meat, fruit and cheese plate you can customize. The ambiance was loud. It's a bar with picnic table style benches that you'll share with strangers. The typical setup of most breweries now. They do have a very lovely location in the heart of downtown Durham which is very easy to get to and lots of closing near by. The Chapel Hill st. lot probably being your best bet. It's a bar with a gimmick and maybe that gimmick works for you and maybe it doesn't. It's a good place to bring friends since there's such a large selection but if you have a very large group seating might be an issue if you are coming at a peak time. read more

Pour is a delicious, fun, community-oriented addition to the downtown community. Come for an expansive and intuitively arranged selection of beers, many local. (It reminds me of the situation at Clouds Brewing, except...better.) The draw is that you get to choose your own glass and pour your own drink. The staff are always a treasure and willing to help, the prices are very fair (e.g. 45 cents an ounce), they have everything from ciders to prosecco to wines on tap for the less beer-oriented of folks (although their opinion is wrong, duh), the patio is lovely, and it's right across from the best ice cream in town. They have regular events (cornhole contests, live music, specials, and so on), which are find-out-able via their social media, which is upbeat and worth a follow if that's your kinda thing. When you walk in, you show ID and a credit card to the front desk, which you get back. In return, you get a red rubber bracelet which you tap on the back wall to pour drinks after picking out your glass. To exit, you turn the bracelet back in; there's also a place you can deposit the bracelet and just walk out without waiting (adds 20% tip). If you're feeling saucy, you can even combine beers. Framboise + coffee stout, anyone? Give this place a go, you'll love it! read more

Really cool concept of pouring your own beer. I do like that they support local breweries but I would also like to have a few different options. I would like that they also had some more neutral/traditional beers as all the beers on tap were pretty particular. The location has a good number of tables and has some board games. It is pretty bright inside. It kind of gives you the feeling that you are staying in with some friends for a calm night playing games/talking and drinking some beer. They had a small food menu but I did not eat anything. One thing that I thought was confusing was the rinsing of the glasses. At the counter we were told we should rinse our glasses if we wanted to try another beer type. To rinse the glass they have the water stream were you press your glass upside down and water rinses the glass. I though that that was not hygienic and believe this water should only be used to chill the glass. Therefore, I preferred to grab a new glass. All in one I would say this was a fun experience but it is also a bit pricey. A pint comes about $9 if you drink the mid-priced beer. There were one or to taps that were cheaper. They limit the consumption to 30oz. read more

Pour Taproom is a really sweet going-out spot in Durham. I'm not sure you'd find anyone that wouldn't have a good time here, even if they don't drink! It's set up well, so that the beers are around the wall and there is plenty of seating at multiple tables (and a couch by the door) around the space. Friends in my group were very impressed by the selection of beers from all around the nation. One in particular was incredibly happy to see "Pumking" beer from Southern Tier Brewing Co. in New York! I'd recommend making this a stop on your bar crawl through downtown Durham for sure. read more

Super cool place to hangout! I've been to Clouds Brewing which features a smaller scale pour wall so I was wowed when we walked into Pour and saw the massive selection! Such a clever concept and personally, I love this idea since I'm not a beer person and can't ever finish a full 12oz drink, so being able to pour little portions and trying until I find something I like is right up my alley. The atmosphere is lively and crowded on the weekends which makes for a lot of fun. We love coming here before or after dinner with friends. It is so fun here! We went back in February after getting a quick meal at Neomonde. I have walked by here many many times, but never went in. We swung by on our way over to Carolina Theater and got to spend some time trying out a bunch of different drinks. I love how they have the wall organized based on type of cider or beer. Pour was a business that started in Asheville with a nice simple concept, rather than buying pints of beer how about you just buy beer by the ounce and pour however much you want. That lets you try a wider variety of options. You come in, attach a credit card to a wrist band, pour whatever you want, and drop off the wrist band when you are ready to leave. The Durham location is small inside but with ample seating outdoors which is nice when the weather agrees. While I enjoyed my two visits, once you get over the novelty of the concept it is true you are paying more for beer than you would normally pay if you went to standard bar. So be wary, it is fun trying all of those beers but you can be in for a little surprise when you look at the credit card statement the next day. read more

Multiple taps with everything from hard ciders, to every style of beer, even wine, all line the back wall. The whole front of the shop faces a town square with large glass windows for tons of natural light and some outdoor seating. A swipe of your wristband activates the taps that show pouring tips, style, ABV, and tallies how much you've poured. The educated staff helped walk through the self service options. One note though, if you know what you want, it's probably better to buy from a store. If you want to try many new things, this is the place. Since my initial review, we've been back quite a number of times, and even brought friends, the kids, and the gang from work. (Not all at the same time). By number of visits alone, this is officially our new favorite bar in Durham. They've had some different taps every time we've been back, so every visit you get to try more beers. Fun! We've tried several of the sandwiches as well - they are all pretty basic but satisfying and come with a very generous portion of chips (unless you choose carrots, in which case you have plenty of carrots, and I hope you feel appropriately superior to those of us who enjoy chips with our beer). Our kids (yes, we have become THOSE people ruining your adult fun time!) enjoyed the selection of children's toys and board games tucked away in a bin by the front, as well as the nutella wrap, hot dog, and chips. I am a huge fan of Pour Taproom. Every time we go, it's a good time for all. Yesterday I heard a stranger say "this is the greatest concept of all time" - to which I totally agree! I personally love to try a variety of beers before choosing a single pint but usually feel like an ultra annoyance to the bartender. Even flights are troublesome for me, because they're still bigger pours and I end up having 1-2 favorites and waste the rest. This is why I love Pour! Upon activation of your wristband at the register, you can freely peruse the wonderfully curated wall of varying craft beers and even wine! If you happen upon an intriguing option you'd like to try, scan your wristband and pour as little or as much as your heart desires. A sip, a taste, or an entire pint - the world is your oyster! As you peruse, tap the screen for flavor descriptions and other nifty info such as ingredients and the process of brewing etc. Most of the beer is local to NC, and they've organized the taps by sours, lagers, IPAs, Ports etc. The whole concept is so approachable! You pay per ounce and each beer is priced accordingly. After each pour the screen will display how many pints you've enjoyed so you can keep tabs. Enjoy your fresh pour in the AC inside or on the pet-friendly outdoor patio (some tables have umbrellas for shade). There are board games inside and bean bag toss outside. They do offer a small menu of snacks, sandwiches, and tasting boards. I'd suggest saving an appetite for another close by Durham restaurant rather than eating a full meal here. As a snack their options are great, but the food here isn't Durham's A-game. read more
