We got our bands and a pleasant explanation of the concept and procedure. Found some seats outside and were able to enjoy our beers outside right in the heart of downtown. When you're done-stand in line to cash out or dash out and ditch your band in the bucket and get charged 20% gratuity. Overall a good experience with a few hiccups noted below- First, I found that the atmosphere was bright and pleasant, but the beer was a titch overpriced compared to other local places. Secondly, the selection was kind of weak and many of the kegs frequently needed changing-understandable on a Saturday night, but when the patrons need to notify the cashiers-which causes them to stand in line-it causes some disruption in the flow. read more

They have an outdoor section that is great for chilln, enjoying friends, and a great view of DT Durham. The food is not the best, but could get better as they progress. But there was gnats everywhere and was annoyed I was asked to ring up my beer for each time I tried a sample. I like the concept of this place. It's like having a wine,beer, and cider tasting spot on demand. They have a nice selection and it rotates frequently. The only thing lacking is food. There aren't many healthy meal options. The options are mostly animal product based sandwiches with chips or carrots as a side. They also offer charcuterie and hot dogs. First, let me say this is a great place to relax and try some new beers. The system is stream lined and simple making you in control of your experience. The staff is friendly and helpful making my experience even more relaxing. The have a large selection of beer and some wine. Ok...with that said as I sat there and drank I had to wonder what's the catch? Why haven't these stores taken over bars? Well when I paid and it was $25 for two full pints and samples of other beers! That's like five pints in a traditional bar. Plus my wife's favorite ran out and the staff wasn't helpful in trying to replace it. The reason I still gave it 5 stars was because the price is clearly marked per ounce in the alcohol before you pour. I stumbled into this place without knowing the concept, but know I will plan on making this a destination! You get a wristband so that you can pour yourself samples or glasses from their numerous taps, and the wristband tracks the number of ounces you've tried of each drink. I appreciated being able to try samples of a lot of different beers, ciders, and wine! I was able to try drinks I wouldn't normally order, and sample numerous things before settling on a larger pour of some of my favorites. In the end I definitely think I spent more than I would have on the same amount of alcohol at a more traditional bar, but it was worth it for the fun experience. read more

Solid little spot. I think if I had one complaint, it's that the beer might never seem as cold as I'd enjoy. It's a bit warm. Though I suppose I have two complaints: since my first visit here, the bathroom cleanliness has gone drastically downhill. I came on a Sunday recently and the place had just opened for the day and the bathrooms were disgusting. Not cool. I love the pour-your-own concept as it allows you to check out a lot more beers than if you have to commit to a full pour. Casual atmosphere, can get somewhat loud inside with a big crowd, and a cool patio with cornhole to sit and enjoy people watching in Durham. Perfect for beginner beer drinkers who are looking to try new flavors and figure out what they like/don't like. Nice setting, location, and concept. It is a great place to sit outside and people watch. First, the price is steeper than normal if you just go out and grab a pint at a pub or brewery. We were excited to try Pour because of the interesting concept: by the ounce, self-service beer. The good news is that they have a good selection of beers so you have the opportunity to have as little or as much of each variety as you like. The bad news is that whoever is in charge of keeping the tap lines clean is failing at their job. I'm a beer judge, so I've had my share of infected, funky beer. If you want to try some, go to Pour. Of the four beers I sampled, three had obvious signs of infection. When you let the unwashed public touch beer taps, they require more than the usual sanitation. I feel fairly certain that the employees of Pour are only doing the bare minimum. read more

Pour Taproom has a great concept that is only seen at wine bars before: have a wide selection of beers on tap and pay by the ounce as you desire. With 50 some odd beers on tap there is something for everyone from ciders to Porters to IPAs. The screens on the tap let you know how much you've poured from that particular tap, how much you've poured total, and how many ounces you have left. I think it'd be very easy to get "pour happy" which could be a good or bad thing but I like the ability to try a huge variety in the portion that you want. Update: Have tried them out a couple more times since our first experience and was much happier by the beer selections! They were once again out of some of the choices for the appetizer board, which was disappointing, but not a huge deal. Beer cheese special was delicious! Chili special a few weeks later... not so much. Love the concept! I think this place may just need a little more time to establish. I was not blown away by the beer selection... maybe they're just being modest until they establish clientele. I didn't find any beer that wow'd me and for the amount of taps, there didn't feel to be as much variety as there could be. It is very easy to use, and the pricing is fair. I like that I can just pour a few ounces at time. I hope the menu expands a bit in the future. We got a bread board to hold us over for dinner. It was $7 and I chose feta, cheddar cheese, and pickles to accompany the bread, olive oil, fruit, and jam. When I turned in my order the cashier told me they were out of the bread, after asking, she was happy to use another type of bread. The board ended up coming out without the fruit, a slice of wheat bread, very minimal cheese, and what seemed to be pickled okra (it was very good though, just not what was expected). I enjoyed it, but it did not meet expectations. They had advertised that kids eat free on Sundays, so we also ordered a kid's grilled cheese. Reminds me of a frozen yoghurt place, but with beer. You get to be your own bartender and pull your own pint, yay! There are 60 something on tap - Belgian, sour, light, IPA, etc, cider and some wine. Obviously, this concept means that your beer will cost more than it would have costed in a regular type of bar. But you get to try different kinds of beer. I like being able to just pour myself a couple of ounce to try. You link your credit card to a plastic bracelet and hold it against the tap logo and pour. There is a limited menu with sliders and sandwiches. There was no music when we came, so ambiance was lacking a bit. read more

This is a fun and tasty addition to the Durham bar scene and a welcome breath of fresh air. Indoor and outdoor seating, underneath the new boutique hotel by the Bull statue in downtown Durham. You arrive and check in at the front with an ID and credit card. You get an ID bracelet that you can then hold up to the taps on the wall to activate them, and can pour yourself a wide selection of wine, beers, and ciders by the ounce. They also offer a short menu, with some snack foods, slider options, and some sandwiches (with chips or carrots - a fun quirk). I got the Beef Gouda Melt, which was a panini-style sandwich and was delicious. You get a number and they bring the food out to you, similar to many other bar options. On departure, you can return your bracelet to the front and get your bill, or can drop your bracelet in a jar up front and have them auto-bill your card (from check-in) for the bill + 20%. A quick-leave option for those not wanting to wait in any line. All-around a fun spot, look forward to trying it out further! read more

My gf and I stopped at Pour for drinks and had such a good time, once we figured out how to work the taps lol. I guess we were too excited about wine on tap to read the directions. Anyway, they have wine, beer, & cider on tap, you pay by the ounce. The cashier opens a tab and gives you a red bracelet, and the red bracelet "unlocks" the taps for you. There is seating inside and out, and I noticed board games as well. The patio closes at 9, so we went inside shortly after that to finish our glasses. I had the Chardonnay and the Rose (cause all I know is Rose'), and they were both great. I do wish there were more options for wine. Other than that, I have no complaints. The food menu didn't look great, so we passed on food. Maybe next time I'll try try a charcuterie plate or something. Either way, we had a blast. Perfect for wine and summer nights!! read more

His hypocrisy about the enforcement of the rules was blatant and illogical, and left me with a deep-seated rage. Pour taproom is a fun spot if you're looking to try new beers and ciders, many of which are local to North Carolina! They also offer wine, however in my two visits I haven't tried those. Be sure to check their Instagram page for daily specials they change weekly. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety in ciders that they have. The wristband given to track and tap your own is simple and easy to use. It's also very fun! There's indoor and outdoor seating depending on your mood, they are open later on the weekends and in a great location in downtown Durham. I haven't struggled to find a seat yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets very crowded as more people find out about it and go! read more

Great addition to the downtown craft beer scene! The concept of paying by the ounce sounds like it could get expensive, but it can actually be more affordable than getting 16oz beers or flights that limit you to 4 or 5 varieties. Getting a few ounces of a bunch of different beers (or wine or cider) at this place is pretty darn fun! And with small plates available from Toro/littler you have a well-rounded spot to hit before a show or dinner. Or just go here. :) One recommendation though- please install sound baffles!! Our first visit was around 4 pm on a Friday. The cashier gave us a great orientation, explaining how the system works. It's very easy to try many, many different beers (also wine and cider). Open feeling with lots of windows to see Unscripted and surrounding downtown area. Outside seating will be great in cooler weather. It's nice to be able to self serve by the ounce and decide what you like best. Great selection of beers, including many local options. Small menu of sandwiches and other light fare. We had a yummy sandwich! Diverse crowd of young and old beer aficionados. Fun, relaxed atmosphere. This place is awesome! I've been to a few self-service beer walls before but this has the largest selection I've ever been to. I love that they have lots of wine, ciders and even prosecco on draft for non beer drinkers. A great place to watch a game or gather with friends for drinks. You can taste as many things as you want! They have a food menu as well with sandwhichs and small plate things. I didn't order anything from the menu but I love that they had a build your own charcuterie plate option with plenty of vegan/vegetarian options like nuts, olives, hummus, veggies, etc. Will definitely go back! read more

This is a central location in Durham. Great place to begin or end a night on the town. The food is really good for a place with a strong beverage emphasis (wine on tap as well, and usually even some good root beer for the DD). Good veggie options, too. The beer selection is widely varied, and, may I say, quite excellent (as it would need to be for a place with a 50+ tap self-pour concept). Always plenty of local breweries represented, and great taps from all over the globe as well. In my experience, the staff and owner Daniel are very friendly and helpful. Lots of events throughout the week - there seems to be a strong desire to engage with the local community. All around solid place. Happy to have it in Durham. This place is pretty fun to be able to try a butt load of different beers. Half are usually sours, wheats, and ciders which isn't my thing. They kick people out of the patio area at 11pm I guess for noise issues with the hotel above which kind of sucks on a nice night. Also, beers end up being pretty pricey with .50 per 1 ounce pour on average. That comes out to $8 a pint. Fun place but can be overrun by Duke students. read more

I went back to the Pour Taproom last night to see how the business is going since opening several months back. The tap room has added a nice outdoor space with tables, games and views of downtown. Certainly a nice addition to the pub. As one would expect there was plenty of beer (I think 60-65 taps if I'm not mistaken). I was also pleasantly surprised to receive a free tasting from Ballast Point Brewing who was on site giving out samples and koozies. Make no mistake the Pour Taproom in Durham is must visit spot, I will be back again! read more
