Brewery #455 Atomic Clock Brewing is a very nice place that had very good beer, particularly their hazies. I got a flight of beer and ordered a Beef on Wick with fries. The bartender while nice was kind of flighty, just lacked awareness of the amount of people waiting to get beer. My flight consisted of A Belgian, Schrodinger's Pale Ale, and 2 hazy IPAs. The Critical Mass (DIPA) and Atomichron (hazy) were both phenomenal. Then we waited almost an hour for the Beef on Wick to come out. It's literally just a roast beef sandwich with fries. My friends convinced me to give this place a second chance. I knew I should have said no but they were so adamant about it and I thought maybe it would be better this time. I was wrong. So wrong. This place is the absolute worst. It's so unfortunate because the place is beautiful and has potential. I've learned my lesson and there will not be a third time. We attempted to sit at a table for 8 but the chairs are oversized and the tables are far too close together. We had to remove two chairs to even attempt to slide across the chairs because you cannot pull them out to sit down. It's extremely difficult and uncomfortable to have to slide all the way out to let people in and out. Not user friendly at all. I wanted to order a beer but just like last time they didn't have any beer I'd ever drink which is saying a lot as I will drink anything that's not an IPA or super yellow. So I ordered the Rosè margarita but the male bartender told me they were out of that drink. Impossible. I could see both rosè and tequila from where I was standing. A female bartender overheard the male bartender lying to me and she said she would make the margarita for me. Hmmmmmmmm. So one honest bartender and one who lies because he only wants to pour beers. Nice, casual ambiance. Very friendly servers. Drinks were good. Nice selection of beer on tap and other options. All that being said, three stars because the food was really just fine. Got the empanadas, which were somewhat underfilled and taste including sauces was just fine. Nothing super delicious, novel or memorable. We also got the chopped Italian sandwich, which came with a very skimpy one slice of meat. (We don't love huge, thick sandwiches, but this was really thin.) Plus the garlic fries had some weird batter that left a strange texture in your mouth. All in all fine. I'd be happy to come again for a drink with friends but would probably skip the meal. read more

This brewery had an amazing theme and vibe along with delicious beer! We stopped by here on a Saturday to enjoy a beer in between some activities around town. The theming is so fun! I loved the room with all of the different kind of clocks. They had plenty of seating along with a really nice porch to enjoy the weather. The staff was super friendly and really helpful to our family since it was our first visit. I did the Movement Pilsner and it was really light and refreshing and came in a 20 ounce pour. I had a taste of 1 beer that was good, but I wasn't up for drinking during this visit. It was a nice evening so we snagged one of the larger outside tables on the side. Wanted to get out of the house and ended up at this brewery for a quick drink. Walked into a nice place with a casual vibe to it. The bartender was extra friendly, letting us try a few before we each settled on something quite tasty. Ordered a snack to go with the beer, which was spot on. Had a few afternoon beers at ACB the other day, cool spot. Sat at the bar and the service was quick; it was early afternoon so not busy at all. The inside is an old refurbished industrial spot, I kept wondering what did they used to make here 80+ years ago... they did a great job keeping the old feel to the inside. What a fantastic brewery. Went last night with my sister and parents and had a great experience. I enjoyed the jalapeño infused beer, on the menu as the Maxwells Demon. Grabbed a flight from here recently and enjoyed myself! It was Tiki Night so they had live musicians playing Hawaiian music, which was fun. Overall, the quality of the beers was pretty darn high! Maybe my favorite of the breweries I've tried in this area, actually. The one downside was that I ordered a slice of the olive oil cake and it took a very long time to receive it. We had to inquire with the bartender and it's not clear to me whether the kitchen was just backed up or the bartender forgot to put in the order, but I received it ~5-10 minutes later. It wasn't a bad slice of cake but given the wait I was a little disappointed I guess. Other than this delay, the service was solid and the bartender was friendly. I really appreciate that they offer a pretty extensive food menu with options beyond the typical bar food (e.g., lemongrass noodles, bao buns, banh mi) in addition to the usual sandwiches, fries, pickles, pretzels etc. The food we tried was quite good! We sampled a few of their beers. While not every one was a standout, the beer selection was perfectly enjoyable for a casual gathering. I loved their creativity - I got the "Boba Bear," they put popping boba in a passion fruit flavored sour. It made for a fun and unique experience! I'm not a beer drinker (again, wheat allergy) but appreciate the thoughtful cocktails and wine selection. The prices are standard. Some friends of ours recommend meeting at Atomic Clock for dinner and drinks. Boy were we disappointed. Parking was extremely limited in the parking lot and street parking was not much better. The place itself seemed nice with plenty of seating inside and a small patio area for outdoor seating. We ordered a few beers and asked for menus. The menu was small but looked appealing. This is where things went down hill. Orders came out at different times so no one really had any food at the same time. The food orders were also jumbled up meaning I had my sandchich with someone else's fries and vice versa. Some exchanges were made amongst us and we realized some of the orders were not just jumbled up but just plain wrong. The food itself was unremarkable and not really worth it. Atomic Clock is one of Durham's newer breweries. It is really nice inside and I really enjoyed looking at all of the unique clocks. I hate to give bad reviews but this was just really not great. We were there for a tiki event. It was mostly full but not bursting at the seams. We put in our order at the bar and get our number for the table. The frozen cocktail was decent and two of the three food items we ordered arrived. After about an hour, I went to the bar to inquire about the missing item. The bartender was like crap, I must have missed that item and now we are out of them. So we ordered a different replacement item. It was a burger... 40+ min latter my husband goes back to the bar to say sorry but nevermind, we need to go, it's been too long. Finally the burger arrives and they put it on a to-go box for us. There's almost a glut of breweries and taprooms in our area so we're always looking for how each one distinguishes itself. We stopped in on a Friday night in July and there were still patrons there although it was not busy by any means. The main hall is large and there appear to be at least two separate side rooms. We enjoyed our stout and lighter beer (they seem to do lots of collabs with other breweries). A gentleman next to us ordered food and it looked very good. We'll have to come back and eat here sometime. Looks like they offer brunch as well as some special dinner pairings every once in a while. Might have been the worst plate of food I've ever had in my life. Ok to have a drink but my God the food was horrific. The chicken is rock hard and so deep fried so dark and hockey puck like that it was not edible. Service just ok. Water not even brought to table just dirty cups on a shelf to help oneself. I've never ever in 51 years of life had food this bad. I am honestly nauseated. The food also took nearly 45 minutes (two sandwiches, fish and chips, two wings) and when it arrived we were actually in shock due to the poor taste and quality. Colleen made the entire planning so easy and that evening was attentive to all of the nuances we had requested. The food was excellent. Good selection of beers. They have a somewhat limited and varied menu. A modern facilities. Our one complaint was their tipping policy. It's not unusual for Restaurant to add a 20% tip if there's six or more people. However, what I did not feel was right that you had to go to the bar and order your food and drink and bring your drinks back to your table. They then would bring the food out and place it on the table and leave. There was really NO SERVCE!!! read more
