We went to Pour Taproom after dinner tonight. What a great concept! They have a full wall of beverages - wine, seltzers, all kinds of beers, some mixed drinks/cocktails, non-alcoholic drinkss, and water. You check in with your credit card and get a wrist band for each person in your group. Then you scan your wrist band at each tap and pour as much or little as you want. The system keeps up with the quantity and price of each pour, and you pay at the end. The night we went, there was a live band playing. Inside there is a decent amount of seating, and there are lots of tables outside. Really fun place. Highly recommended. read more

Really enjoyed the experience here. It took less than 30 seconds to check me in. All I need to do is give my ID to scan and a card to put on file (they said I can pay cash when it's time to pay if I wanted). Just like that I have a wrist band and can pick what ever beer I want. It's cool to pour 2-5 oz to try something with a low cost low risk opportunity. I had 21.8 oz total of different kinds of beers and it only cost me 10 bucks. I was checking out and someone else had a party of 5 and their bill was only $56 with beer and food. It seems like if you can navigate drinks and food well you can really get a great value. I used to love this place, but after this experience I honestly don't think I'll ever come back or recommend it to friends or family. One of the servers cleared our drinks while I was in the bathroom and somehow took my wristband with them. When we went to close out, the server refused to help us because one person no longer had their wristband even though it was THEIR staff who took it in the first place. Instead of trying to fix the situation, asking questions, or showing any level of customer service, she was rude, dismissive, and acted like she couldn't care less. The entire issue was caused by the staff, yet we were treated like it was our fault. Then they still expected a 20% tip after providing terrible service and zero effort to resolve the problem. Tips should reflect service, and this experience was awful from start to finish. Management seriously needs to train their staff on accountability and customer service because this was beyond frustrating and completely unprofessional. read more

Ah yes, another high tech pour house. The owner told me he saw this type of setup elsewhere and decided to open his own place...and this is it! So this place has numerous taps on the wall with everything from water to meads. But most are beers, ales, lagers, and seltzers. For this type operation, patrons are given a wristband that you scan at each tap you wish to try. To activate the wristband, you have to input your credit card info with the cashier (which is who gives you the wristband. After which, you pour as much or little as you want as you are charged by the ounce (prices vary but are labeled by each tap). There are inverted water spigots to rinse your glass should you change your drink of choice. We sampled a few different ones and they were pretty good. They also serve food here (we didn't try anything). There is some outside seating as well. But no one was seated there cause it was cold outside. The owner was pleasant and the atmosphere was chill mid-afternoon, mid-week. it's all paid street parking or fee-based public lots (monitored). read more

This is one of my new favorite places in Knoxville! If you haven't been here, definitely check it out! Once you check in, they'll give you a bracelet with a wireless device you can scan at any of the taps available at the bar to pour yourself a drink. They have wine, seltzers, beers, and on the weekends they even have mimosas. The tape measure out the pours by volume and add it to your tab, and periodically, you'll have to check back in with the bar to have them reactivate your bracelet so you can keep using it at the taps. The interior is pretty spacious and they often feature live music or entertainment. Outside, they have a pretty large deck with seating if you're wanting to enjoy the outdoors. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and the drinks are great, also featuring a ton of local options! 10/10 recommend checking this place read more

Self-service with this brilliant concept is a liberating experience! Allows one to socialize or reflect as one would in a pub type setting but with the option of tantalizing your taste buds with a variety of spirits. It becomes a tasting journey. For those that are interested in the details of the product, simply tap the screen for more information. Love the fact that you don't have to flag a bartender down! However, it makes you wonder why a 15% gratuity is automatically added to your tab. The automatic gratuity for self-service would be similar to a self-checkout lane charging you a service fee for scanning and bagging your own groceries. Ambiance is okay but definitely could be better. Enjoyed an hour here with some associates. We were inspired by the business model. Highly recommend a first time experience! Im not convinced it would be an establishment I would need to revisit unless the product line revolved for new tasting experiences. My group swarmed around the Meridian Hive mead from Austin, TX. I tried this place while in town visiting family. It was great! Very cool concept, and nice selection of beverages. Basically it is a self-serve bar. They have 68 (I think) taps with beer, meade, wine, seltzers and cocktails. You show your id and give them your credit card to open your tab. You are given a digital bracelet which activates the taps. Once activated you pour as much as you like. Rates are by the ounce and posted on each tap's digital screen. I really enjoyed the selection of drinks and was able to sample several items without spending too much money. Had 3 people including myself. We all drank and left with a tab of just over $20. Not bad for a bar. Food is available and is just OK. Nothing spectacular - appetizers and snacks. We had some Thai chili nachos that were pretty good. I recommend going for the drinks and have some food elsewhere. Definitely enjoyed it enough to go back next time I'm in town. read more

My sister and I came here for brunch the Saturday after St. Patrick's Day. I got there when they opened at noon and for awhile, I was the only person there. When my sister arrived, one of the employees told us they needed an ID and a card to start a tab on. He heard this was our first time there and he showed us how the wrist band system worked with the taps. It's pretty cool! You tap the circle on your wrist band on the logo on the tap you want, a green light will light up and you start pouring. The screen shows you how many ounces you're pouring. There's also an ounce limit per pour which is a safeguard against wasting drinks so all you have to do it tap your wrist band to it again. They have signs above the taps to categorize the drinks. They have dark beers, ciders, meads, wines, cocktails, kombucha, IPA's...a lot of variety! Since we came for brunch, they didn't have much in the way of food (especially nothing for me since I have a gluten allergy) but we were more interested in the mimosas anyway ;) Their happy hour for Saturday and Sunday brunch is noon until 2 or 3 o'clock (I think) with half off Prosecco AND! They provide the juices and mixers for free! They had an ice bucket with orange, peach and cranberry juice, plus some alcoholic mixers such as a raspberry, gin & elderflower and a chamomile & elderflower alcoholic mixer. The only draw back to the visit (that was pretty understandable) was that you could tell the two employees were just exhausted and frustrated after working the night before (St. Patrick's Day) and waking up to come in to work again. They were talking about some of the patrons that were frustrating or talking about another employee in a negative light to my sister and I and while I totally understand it, I just didn't care for it when I was a stranger and a first time patron too. But other than that, this is a really interesting place with the pay by the ounce system, the variety they have and when it's nicer weather, I'd love to sit on their front patio. read more

Pour is always a go to spot when I'm in Knoxville! It always provides a super chill atmosphere to catch up with friends or play a board game or just enjoy the live music and try new drinks! The staff running the registers are super nice and very helpful if it's your first time! As a very indecisive person, I love being able to sample every thing and pour my own size drink! I also love that they have not only a massive variety of beer but also have a great variety of other beverages! Pretty cool place to stop in midday for a cold beer. Located in the old city, within a renovated warehouse the back wall is lined with about 20+ beers to choose from. The tables inside are communal and a patio is offered. Upon entering you show your I.D. and give a debit/ credit card in exchange for a digital bracelet that is connected to your acct. From there everything is self serve. Around 5 glass options are available for your drinking pleasure and style. Once you've decided on one the fun begins. I opted for a Pilsner glass and filled it about 3/4 full of a Blueberry Sour beer. Once that was devoured I tried a cider, another siur and the original beer of Oktoberfest. Pretty darn good! At check out you have an option to pay with the card on file or another payment. For entertainment they offer board games, darts and maybe more but that's what I saw. My husband and I recently took a vacation in Knoxville and this place was by far my favorite part of the down town! I wish we had a self serve wine bar where I live. I have been to one before in Austin and they are amazing! This one is even better than that one because here you have a bracelet instead of a swipe card you need to carry around. It's a pretty cool concept, the idea that you can try a lot of beers without committing to a full pint or bottle. In general I like it a lot, but there are a few flaws to be aware of: --the bracelet system is finicky, and I've had multiple times where the management had to refund me because it overcharged. --the prices aren't cheap. --don't come on busy nights (avoid trivia and the gay drag shows nights): the beer seems warmer when there are a lot of people, presumably because they're switching out kegs frequently. read more

I love that I pay for what I drink and I can drink as much or as little as I want. It helps to be able to try more before getting too full! They don't have a full kitchen but you can bring in food from outside which is great with the Marble City Market around the corner. Nice space in Old City. I was here for a private work event. There were plenty of tables to fit our company, inside and out on the patio. We were given wristbands, in our case, pre-paid with a drink limit. You flash them at the wine, beer and mead dispensers and pour what you want. Digital screens give more information on all the beverage offerings. The staff was friendly and explained how things work to all. A nice option to have. read more

Adding to the chronicles of "The Riordan's need to get out more often", we stumbled upon this fantastic place which has apparently been open for about two years now. The concept is fun and so freeing...you are assigned a wristband with a chip in it, you peruse the drink offerings, decide what you'd like to try, flash your chip against the reader and then pour as much or as little as you like - you pay by the ounce. We enjoyed beer during our visit, but they also offer wine on tap. WINE ON TAP PEOPLE. It's revolutionary! The furnishes are modest, but they are all they need to be. Plenty of outdoor seating at picnic tables, and a couple of dart boards for interior entertainment. We will be back! read more

This taproom is pay by the ounce. You can try up to 68 different beers/ciders/wines. We went in the early afternoon. Hardly anyone else was there - super nice! This taproom would be great for anyone that wants to try a bunch of different beers. I'm not sure it's the cheapest way to get a full glass of beer... but that probably depends on what you're drinking. Beers are $.25 - $.75 per ounce. (Most beers are $.55) You check in when you arrive, start a tab, and then use your bracelet to start pouring the beers you want. There is a 10% service charge (tip). However, the service charge isn't posted until you return your bracelet. Also, at no point do you know how much you've spent. Even when you leave, you just drop your bracelet in a box, so you still don't see your total. There is paid parking pretty close, just west of the taproom. But under the James White bridge, parking is free.. read more

What a super cool concept for the beer drinker. Over 50 beers on tap and pour it yourself service. I remember years ago seeing this concept on TV however this is the first I have seen it in action. Huge outside patio comfortable environment. Pour and drink your heart away! UPDATE: went to pour today with 3 classmates. 2 were drinking beer, myself and another just water. Owner approached our table, we were the only people in the the entire bar) asking if everything was good. We said yes thank you. He then said, well I'm the owner and can I get y'all anything. We said no but thank you. Instead of walking off, he had the audacity to say "well y'all are just in my bar hanging out drinking water" I pointed to the 2 beers on the table. At this point I'm amazed at this, but then this guy took it further... he asked the 2 that are drinking "do you even know these 2, because I heard y'all asking each other for your names!" One of my classmates explained to him that we just started class together... HE CONTINUES FURTHER.. "well I'm the owner, and as the owner I just want to know why your not drinking beer!" I'm so glad he let us know 4 times in a short encounter that he was "the owner!" Like that should mean something , some kind of position of power? Never I have I heard of or seen people being harassed that are in a group because a few weren't drinking. I have owned a bar and many other businesses... I love Pour! This is one of my favorite spots to enjoy a drink with friends. Their outside patio is spacious and perfect for a large group. They have a large array of games, if you enjoy drinking and playing games. They have had alive entertainment every time we have been on the weekends. I just discovered their Sunday mimosa bar, and I really enjoyed it. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. They make sure everyone knows how to work the valves on your first time there. They make it easy to close out your tab by having a place to put your drinking bracelet so don't have to wait in line to leave. It is true that it's not easy to tell how much you've spent, which is probably by design. But the prices are pretty reasonable, and the convenience of taking as much or as little as you want is worth something. The atmosphere was great: live music and a good crowd (even on a rainy night), but plenty of space to chill and play board games too. And the wristbands are a nice throwback to the good ol' days when I was allowed to like Lance Armstrong. read more

**Review from a non-beer drinker** I went to Pour Taproom with colleagues after work this week and wasn't super impressed. I was very excited there were wine options since I am not much of a beer drinker! I sampled a rose and chardonnay and both were room temperature which was a bummer. I went with a red blend which while not my favorite- was an easy enough sipper. :) It was 50% off wine night so I thought I'd have a steal! I guess my samples were small/quick enough that they only showed up as one. I was charged for a glass of wine and one sample, which at 50% off came to $6.35- Yikes! I'm not sure exactly what the break down was, but I'm sure glad I didn't have to pay full price for a mediocre glass of wine and a couple tiny samples of warm white wine. My beer-drinking colleagues were also less than impressed with their final tabs; apparently even small samples add up fast at Pour! With so many other terrific bars in town, I'll be interested to see if the novelty of Pour can make it a winner. Personally I'd be more likely to visit again if they stocked better -and temperature appropriate- wines (hey, why not expand your market just a bit?), and bring down the prices. I wasn't sure about the concept of this place, but now that I've been, I'm on board. Pay by the ounce means you can try as much or as little of something as you want. The selections cover light, dark, IPA, and seasonal beers, as well as Wine, Cider, and Mead. Lots of good local/regional stuff on tap; definitely something for everyone here. Prices seem a teeny bit high; I didn't quite get two full pints and spent around $9. The space is ample, though with the high ceilings and warehouse acoustics, it's not hard to imagine this place will get loud on busy nights. How it works: check in at the front with your ID and a credit card. They get you set up in the system, give you back your creds, and hand you a wristband. Use the wristband to activate the tap you want (it'll flash a green light and your name so you know you're good to go), pour your selection, and head back to your table. Easy, peasy. When you've had enough, or when they tell you you've had enough, bring your wristband to the register and pay out. First time visits require a little demo from a staffer, which is a bit of a drawback as it's not entirely intuitive where to touch your wristband, but after that, you'll be good to go. Important: dropping your wristband in the bin for a quick checkout adds 10% on your bill (as opposed to cashing out at the register). This is in small print on the box, but easy to forget/overlook. It's a handy way to avoid a potentially long line on a busy night, but at a cost. You've been warned. Also important: if you forget to take off your wristband before heading home, $3 will be added onto your bill. The wristband is handy for pouring, but could be easy to forget to return at the end of your visit. Bottom line--I'll be back. It's a unique concept with a good selection of beers and whatnot. Whether or not the novelty will wear off remains to be seen. read more

I have NO problem showing an ID, but I TOLD HIM I wanted a COKE and had CASH in my hand in PLAIN SLIGHT. It was VERY CLEAR I WASN'T THERE FOR ALCOHOL. I also SAW NO REASON TO DEMAND A CREDIT CARD OR ASK FOR IT AGAIN 1 MINUTE LATER AT THE OTHER BAR. I Don't Give A Flip About City Ordinances For The Business Because I Positively Will Not Be There Again. Your snarky response is NOT appreciated. You are as bad as the staff there that day. We were there early in the afternoon so we had no wait. I'm curious how a crowd of people will interrupt the flow between each tap. Great selection of craft beers! Super fun concept! Its like a frozen yogurt joint...but for ALCOHOL!!! It's a self-serve place. You get a wristband and "activate" the drink you want..and pour yourself as much or as little of it as you want. Great prices too! Cool, hip & young vibe. Love the brick walls! But I love the HUUUGE selection of beer even more :) I absolutely love sour beers and I was so thrilled to see a pretty good selection of sours! Service was phenomenal too. I ordered a few bites and there was some miscommunication so one of my orders didn't go through..and in addition to the sincere apologies, they threw in a comped item AND 10% off entire tab voucher for my next visit. So cool of them! Minus one star because the food was meh..it seemed like they just microwaved products purchased off-site. BUUT overall wonderful experience. Great patio on Jackson Ave. Simple concept: self-serve booze. Pretty okay execution. Minimal staff working, so it can be hard to find someone to set you up with an arm band or close your tab. Apparently even harder to keep all 60+ taps functioning - there were several "empty" or "out of service" taps last time I was there. Still, the motto of "a beer festival everyday" is accurate - nowhere else in Knox to taste this many different beers (and ciders and wines) without drinking a gallon and running up a huge tab. read more
