Not the place for me... I would guess this is a good place if you are someone from the neighborhood or a regular but it was not friendly and the service was bad. The food was OK, but i expected some English pub type food, but it was just the same type of sandwichs prepared differently. The service was bad. I ordered my food and had pay for it right there just like at a Burger King. They dropped the food on the table and left. Great place to hang for a few beers and great bar food! Everyone working was kind and respectful and helpful

The vibe inside is on point--plenty of seating. You can have a private conversation or enjoy the ambiance. There are dart boards and pool tables and a great patio. Service was friendly and warm. But, there are other considerations here. There is no glassware. A proper pint cannot be served in plastic. Likewise, for an English pub I expected an emphasis on English beers, of which there were precious few. A gargantuan selection of micro brews can be found at any place around town, so why be the same as everyone else? Finally, and this has been mentioned multiple times, but is crucial--there is no British pub grub staples: no fish and chips, shepherd's pie, and the like. A pub should be just that--a pub. Otherwise, what's different than any other place? I expected more. read more

The quick summary: go here for beer, but stay away from the food. They offer a good variety of beer that is mainly local and regional craft beers. But being an "English" pub, they only had two English beers (& those two "standard" Irish beers), which was disappointing. The food was terrible. My friend and I both ordered the Queen Victoria (a Mediterranean style pita) and it came out in a puddle of watery oil (Yum!). The wife got some broccoli and beer cheese. The beer cheese was good, but the broccoli appeared to be reheated frozen broccoli in a pool of oily butter (fake butter?). read more

A few months back I ordered a drink from the bar. A short time after, I began to feel ill and dizzy. Had to get an uber home. I am almost positive something was put in my drink. Went back last night, ordered a drink from the bar and drank it almost immediately. It was never left anywhere and my eyes were never off of the drink. Same exact thing happened!! I barely remember getting home. One drink should not do that to me. I will not ever step foot in this place again. read more

This place is a cool little English pub. They only sell beer. FYI that is no problem because they have such a selection of beer that I'm sure the knowledgeable bartenders can help steer you in the right way. They have plenty of drafts and a large variety of bottled beers. It can be a little smoky in the bar but it is a bar, right? They also serve food. I have tried the hummus, which by the way is pretty darn delicious and their pub dogs aren't to shabby either. The pub dog is a bratwurst topped off with sauerkraut and served with wavy lays. There is a soft spot in my stomach for wavy lays. If you get hungry while your at Union Jack's you could try the hummus or the pub dog because they are both pretty good. I have not tried anything else on the menu but I'm sure that it has to be pretty good. There really is not a particular night to go but the weekends are of course busier then during the week. This little place is a neighborhood bar right next door to Rhouxbarb on Northshore Drive. If your in the area craving a nice cold one then stop into Union Jack's little dark English pub and give it a shot. They also have a pool table, dart boards, and a juke box. Nice little dive bar that is the local spot for English Ales and other European brews. This is our choice for going to get a Boddingtons on nitro. If you have not tried it (Boddington's that is) give it a shot, you wont regret it. The atmosphere is undeniably dive bar - decor is dive bar - exterior is dive bar... Went after they re-opened after their renovation. Thought at first it was really nice. Seemed more spacious, but the reason it is more spacious is because they have the back room that is smoking now. When people come in to use the restroom or get another drink the smoke fills up the dart room. Could smell smoke as soon as we walked in the front door. SAD, as that is why we always made this our go to place. read more

Buddy and I came to Knoxville for a 6 week job. We like to party. I've been to many bars across this great nation and this place is firmly in the top 3 all time of ass kicking establishments. Awesome bartenders, fair drinks prices, and a bar gamer's paradise with billiards, darts (both inside and outside), foozball and bags (cornhole). Live music most nights along with trivia and kareoke night. Dog friendly. TV's everywhere with good music always playing on the stereo. Great vibe and mixed crowd of college and older. Aight Yelp is telling me "I'm rolling now" so time to slow roll but in summary, go here and experience what a bar is supposed to be in this guys opinion. read more

Kept seeing this little pub as I traveled around North shore Rd. Had an hour to kill on a Sunday afternoon so stopped in. Pleasant local feel, a few regulars at the bar but one of the largest collection of beers, ales and ciders, both bottled and on tap. The bartender was a petite young woman, very friendly and knowledgeable about the products. It was my birthday and she offered me a complimentary slice of cheesecake. I declined but thought that was a nice offer. It is not real close to home so probably won't be our local, "Cheers" style of place. The patio looks amazing so will make a point to return in warmer weather. read more

A very sorry excuse for an English Pub. Anyone who has been international or experienced British culture knows that fish and chips are an English staple that this place doesn't serve. I don't think I've ever had a worse gin and tonic as the tonic was flatter than Louisiana. Wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy. It's kind of a dive bar with minimal seating. There's a jukebox, darts, pool tables, and a backyard patio. They allow smoking inside. They have an AWESOME beer selection (no liquor) with a cooler full of great brews. The food is surprisingly good. I HIGHLY recommend the pub dog- a brat with hot mustard, homemade relish, and sauerkraut. The sandwiches are good- you can customize your own and though the selection isn't huge, it's adequate. The hummus is tasty as well. You have to go the bar to order anything so don't feel like you're getting bad service if you sit down and no one visits you. G now spends a lot of time in Knoxville since he is a bassoonist with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. On my first visit, he took me to a pub called Union Jack's. It does have food, but I haven't sampled anyway. We went to England over Christmas, and this place is very similar to those pubs that we visited. It has tons of beers on draught. I don't care for bottled beers. It has one of the BEST Guinness beers on draught ever. I don't know how they do it. It comes out slower than any other place, so we have to wait a few extra minutes before it's ready. It's also not as cold as some. The bartender even puts a cute shamrock in the foam. The best Guinness that I have ever had in the United States is here. If you're in Knoxville, it's a must try. read more

Even a few you can't get at any other bar! They have a Juke Box full of fun music, pool tables, and darts.Plus the food is pretty good! Quite possibly the coolest bar on the planet...maybe more because it was the first bar I went to as a regular before I turned, 21. That was years ago and this bar is still the best in Knoxville. It is normally the first place I go come back in town. Its always nice to see the same familiar faces sitting around the bar or playing pool. Add to that the bartenders are always friendly, enjoy their work, and, perhaps of consequence, have very low turnover. The jukebox is second-to-none!!! I can always hear Tom Petty's "American Girl" when I think about hanging out there. Mostly classic rock, 80s, jam-band, and 60s funk, but really what else to you need to pound back bitter pints in a smoke-filled cinder block room in the end of a tired string of sporadically occupied storefronts. As I mentioned earlier, this bar has played host to countless epic battles on the pool table. If you are wont to find a competitive game of pool, there is almost always a good crown playing in the back room. Standard rules: winner stays, loser buys the beers. On occasion, Union Jacks has on the offer some live music. I remember Thursday night's when a little known band called Robinella and the CC String band used to play every week. All my friends forced ackward conversations with Robinella during set breaks. They only serve beer, but they offer quite an ecclectic collection. And not, in that crappy way like, "Yeah, we're the new Turkey Creek brewery with 300 beers on top." This is a small, cozy bar with a limited amount of taps and refrigeration space. A beneficial consequence is they are always cycling in-and-out new beers. After being gone for several years, I was amazed to see beers from many of the random countries and towns I'd been to. Then there is the food. Outstanding!!! The best Roast Beef sandwich I've ever had, I swear. Typical English fare, but the execution is simply sublime. I had a conversation for an hour onetime about what they put in the mustard on my corn-beef sandwich. Try that at Jimmie Johns! In the end, this place will be dismissed by many, and that is what makes it so special. It is a place that is truly for those who like to taste what they drink. read more

My Wife had an appointment right up the road and I found this place online while sitting in the waiting room. Pulled up and knew this was my kind of place from the outside. Confirmed that this was my kind of place when we walked inside. Sat at a booth and the Bartender was right behind us to take a beer order. We ordered two beers and scanned the menu while he got them for us. Decided to order the Guiness Beer Cheese with Pumpernickel toast rounds for an appetizer. I ordered the Hot Brown and My Wife ordered the Admiral Nelson. The food was pretty good. Both My Wife and I really enjoyed was our meals. Probably not such an authentic menu to the point where you'd find the exact same thing in a Pub in England but tasty nonetheless. I inquired about and joined the Union Jacks Beer Challenge while I was there as well. Upon leaving I was 5 down with 208 more to go. Great Atmosphere, Friendly Service, Good Food, and a 200+ Beer Challenge will definitely bring us back many times to Union Jack's. Happy to soon be repeat customers! read more

Somehow when I'm home we always end up at Union Jacks. I've had good times there. I've had bad times there. I've had just A-OK times there. I am not a smoker, so if you are not a smoker and hate smoke you're going to hate this place. Hate. It lets you smoke inside. Eventually you just get used to it, but then when you're headed home afterwards you smell like you've been smoking for decades. The beer selection here is freakin phenomenal. They offer so many kinds of beer and have a great selection of local and distant offerings. Don't be an idiot and order the same gotdamn beer each time. Branch out. Try something you've never had. The bar food here is just that. Bar food. Though I must admit I dig the pub dog quite a lot. Be ready to duck as you head to the bathroom since that one-stall filthy affair requires you to walk the dart-range to get to. If you lose an eye remember that David M. warned you as you sit and wait for half your life in one of Knoxville's craptastic ER waiting rooms. So. 3 stars. I'm unable to be a regular, but I usually end up going there when I'm in town to catch up with friends and have a few brews. The bar staff, 9/10 times, is good and friendly. So good! I got the turkey bacon ranch panini and it was delicious! We ordered the spinach dip and the hot pimento cheese for our appetizers and both were super yummy. I also got the Blood Orange cider and it was great. I was overall incredibly pleased with the food selection. Union Jacks is an Awesome English Style Pup that has great beers and even better food. You can play darts, pool, corn hole or just about any board game you can image.Their kitchen is open to 2am and has daily specials every night. So if you get hungry, don't be afraid to try something off their Royal Menu such as "The Imperial" or "The Henry V". I promise the steamed sammies at Union Jacks will not disappoint. I've been kind of burnt out on all of the craft beer around here so its great to find somewhere that has old standbys like Newcastle and Boddingtons on tap. Cozy little quiet place that seemed to be a local neighborhood/blue collar/college type hangout with pool tables and good selection of beers on tap. Prices seemed reasonable.
