I would say I've never been surprised to see a shop live up to its name. Prairie House Coffee has been on my list since spotting it on a friend's social. I didn't think the cabin-esqe coffee shop would be here in Florida. But surprisingly it's a lot closer than I thought. Prairie House is in Oakland but listen whether you are a Four Corners pal or Orlando area pal, this is not that far. It's about 30 minutes and just past the Costco in Clermont. Unlike my normal trek to Orlando for coffee shops, this spot is much closer (30 minutes vs the usually 45-50 minutes) and less traffic and tolls. I tried this spot with a friend who has the absolute opposite taste in coffee and tea than I did. I grabbed a matcha that was holiday themed with white chocolate and mint. And a gluten free banana loaf. My friend grabbed an iced latte and a muffin. First as a newly gluten sensitive girl, this place makes good food from scratch that fits to a variety of dietary restrictions. The muffin was delicious. And not super moist but not bone dry either. Just like my loaf. I'm not sure how they made it but it was a great treat. Especially knowing that many spots don't have gluten free options especially not cafes. Like I mentioned in the beginning, prairie house lives up to its name. I actually was shocked when I walked into the giant shop plus gift shop in the back. It was too cold to sit outside and plus, I was working with my laptop that day with a friend. I felt like I was transported back to Minnesota or somewhere in the midwest. There are several coffee shops there that have similar cozy and wooden designs. It matches thy winter aesthetics of the chilly Midwest rather than here in the Summery vibes of Florida. Its cozy layout is also its one downside. As big as the sitting area is (it's not that big), it's so cramped in there and easily fills up. During my time at the shop as I waited for my friend, I saw two large groups of families come in and essentially take up the one shop. They didn't come at the same time. It was just unfortunate that it was back to back. I luckily had secured a spot for my friend and I on a large communal table by an outlet otherwise, we would have really been in trouble if we needed any a power source. Overall, it's a cute shop that belongs up in the Midwest rather than Florida but it's definitely worth the drive. read more

What a gem! Especially for gluten free people! The shop is full of charm and character. The patio is amazing with shaded seats to sip your coffee and eat your treats and breakfast snacks. Everything is gluten free! The breakfast sandwich was very filling and tasty! The bread held together, which is a rare find for gf bread! I appreciate the use of local ingredients. First visit here and it was delightful! Like walking into someone's home, this cafe was cozy and inviting when you first walk in. Round the corner to find your barista ready to take your order! There were so many yummy sounding drinks it was really hard to decide what to get! I went with the Invincible which was delicious - not too sweet, just a subtle hint of honey and cinnamon. Been for a party and never got to try it out when it was open. Came for coffee and 2 sandwiches. When I ordered, the cashier asked for my name. I wasn't offered a receipt so, I said, "do we wait here or..?" And she said, " no we will call your name when it's ready." So, we walked a few feet to the Indoor space and it was full, so we sat outside. We waited about 8 mins and I was about to go inside and someone came out asking for me. I met her, grabbed my sandwiches and then asked about the 2 coffees. She said she didn't know and I'd need to go inside. The 2 sandwhiches were mislabeled so my friend and I had to swap but, that was an easy fix. The coffees didn't have my name on it and mine weren't there. One of the baristas asked me what I got, and she said, " well one of those is made right there, so just grab that one and we will make you a cortado. So, I had to wait for that one. After that, we sat under the oak tree and that was nice. They offer additional parking across the street. Cute little spot. The Sandwhich was like a pancake arepa with cheeses. Different for sure. Didn't try my friends but she got the PB and J styled one. Some kind of jam. The mid summers night drink was fine. It basically tastes like a mocha. read more

Pulled up and we parked on the grass across the street, there were about 10+ spots in the parking lot but they were full. This is a cozy coffee shop with warm, wooden (some plastic that look wooden but still cute) accents, the inviting aroma of freshly roasted beans + spices filling the air, comfortable tables tucked into quiet corners, and a low hum of conversation, providing the perfect spot to curl up with a good book (they have a small library) and a steaming cup of you coffee/tea! What a wonderful way to start the new year. The prices are not outrageous, my "Taste of Autumn - A classic fan favourite at Prairie House! We brought it in for fall and never took it off was $6.10" and my husband's "Healer - their own turmeric latte with organic spices, organic black pepper (for better health)" $5.63. Both tasty but a bit on the sweet side, if you don't like it sweet, ask for less ;) A shop is connected to the coffee shop selling, handmade hats + scarves, plus Christmas ornaments, garden accessories, flower arrangements and more. What a fun find! Wife is GF so this place came up on list. Nice outside are with plenty of tables. Nice indoor area with games and tables. Food was fantastic! This coffee shop is the true meaning of local and such a hidden gem! The inside is eclectic and cozy. They have a fresh water station as well as an actual area to recycle. There is a corner for local merchandise as well. The outdoor area is my favorite, with plenty of seating and a pretty big grassy area that my one year old son had a blast running around in. This time of year they even had a mini pumpkin patch, and there are all kinds of flowers and plants for sale too. Let's talk about the coffee. Everything is freshly brewed, freshly made, local, and organic. They make all of their own spices, and really value themselves on natural ingredients and natural sugars. The coffee speaks for itself! I ordered the pumpkin spice latte, and while not being very pumpkin forward, it featured a lot of those warm fall spices. My only comment would be that it is a bit pricey. $7 later for a small-sized coffee. When I think about the quality of ingredients though, I can't be mad about paying that much. The Cutest Place!! This old historic house is the perfect little coffee spot. They have plenty of coffee, tea and food options to choose from - all made from good organic ingredients. We tried the chai tea latte, pumpkin spice latte and a Classic Breakfast Sandwich. There is outdoor or indoor seating and the vibes and decor is perfect and cozy + aesthetically pleasing. There is also a cute gift shop and a gazebo out back which was full of pumpkins from the pumpkin patch for the fall season right now. Service was great and staff was very friendly! The atmosphere here is amazing. Quiet, relaxing, not crowded. Today I got a kombucha in a can that cost eight dollars. And then I got some gluten-free avocado toast that was good and it cost 12 something. So I spent 20 bucks on a can of kombucha and a couple of pieces of avocado toast. It is overpriced like the other reviewers say. The service was OK. They did not anticipate my needs such as letting me know whether I should wait or go sit down or bring napkins when they brought my food outside. read more

Along with coffee they serve light bites and few sweet treats. There is a great outdoor area with comfortable seating. There are big beautiful trees providing shade. I was pretty shocked that a coffee shop opened up in such a little tucked away place. It's a very cute place, and the coffee that we had was very good. I had the " it My Gumdrop buttons," and my wife had the "nutcracker." Both were seasonal drinks, and I'm eager to try their regular selection when we return. I had the Avo (aka avocado toast) and my wife had the grilled cheese. Both were delicious. I'm not 100% sure what kind of bread they used, but it's slightly sweet, and it complimented both my Avo and her grilled cheese. This place hit all the warm spots. I ordered a Cafe Con Leche and while not 100% authentic it was exactly what I was looking for. The owner explained they use sweetened condensed milk instead of the brown sugar. Creamy, strong and fresh. Bravo from the resident Cuban in the area. I normally get a sugar headache from the brown sugar and got nothing after this. Price is on point and better than the Star*****. Everyone was super friendly, and informative. The most beautiful, peaceful coffee shop located in Oakland, FL. The shop is located only about 2 miles from downtown Winter Garden, but you'll feel like you're at a quaint, country farmhouse. The outdoor seating area has beautiful trees all around. I was pleasantly surprised to see a couple of small shops with cute gifts and home items to buy when I walked in. Prairie House rotates through different espresso beans from different roasters. On the day I visited, they were using Blue Boy by Methodical coffee, which was delicious. They have a dedicated gluten free kitchen, serving hot breakfast items and bakery treats like cookies. The Classic Breakfast sandwich was fantastic. The GF bread was soft, similar in flavor and texture to an arepa. The icing on the cake was that Valee from 'Imi Ola Massage was there offering her chair massage service outside. I hope that this is offered here frequently because it was such a peaceful setting for a quick massage. read more

Adorable historic house in Oakland. We've been wanting to try this place for a while. We visited on a Thursday morning and they Definitely had some decent traffic of patrons eating in or taking out. We had the nutcracker latte and my hubby had the 'Not my gumdrop buttons' both were seasonal menu options. We enjoyed them! It was my first time having macadamia nut milk and I liked it! However, if you do order a regular latte and prefer non dairy, it will be an additional $1 for that substitute. The food was good. We had the Avo and grilled cheese. Both priced around $7-8. We liked both but maybe a bit small for the price point. We did keep in mind that all items are locally sourced from Central Fl farms:) Speaking of local, they even sell local merchandise from artists around the area. The team working on our visit( Jade and Alexa) were incredibly friendly and helpful with making our ordering process a breeze. The outside area has plenty of seating as well. After a couple of months of operation, the place is still rough! Coffee is only so-so. Had my first breakfast sandwich- egg, bacon, on some kind of muffin. Extremely DRY and tasteless. The "muffin" was like cardboard - dry and crumbly. Tasted like cardboard also. I'm sorry, I had hoped they would get their act together. The neighborhood needs a coffee and light food shop.
