First, he told me to wait in one of the exam rooms, but a minute later said he made a mistake and wanted me back in the waiting area. Then right after, he called me back into the same room for a "vision range" test. When I sat down, he slammed the plastic eye cover onto my glasses and told me to read the numbers on the screen in a really aggressive way. He kept forcing the cover onto my face, which felt rough and made me uncomfortable. I'm very near-sighted (-7.00 in both eyes) and was struggling to read the screen since my glasses prescription isn't perfect (I usually wear contacts). Instead of being patient or helpful, he just kept shoving the eye cover in my face and telling me to "just read it," even though I told him I couldn't see that far. As a patient for over 4 years, I really hope the management takes into consideration how their staff treats patients, and this kind of behavior isn't acceptable.

We finally agreed to pay $400 and he confirmed that he accepts credit cards. I paid $80 cash deposit and left. My wife was back a few days to pickup the pair, and this time the owner insisted that she pay cash. She handed him $200 and the remainder she put on the credit card. She got home and wore the pair for a few hours. She experienced discomfort on the back of ears and decided to call and return. My wife was told they don't accept returns or exchanges and there's nothing she can do because the demo lenses on the frames were thrown out. I called him up and said I will take the hit on the prescription lenses, take the frames back, guy gave me the same excuse and then he decided to hang up on me. I called again the lady picked up and she hung up on me too. Am happy to say that I found a great ophthalmologist to check my eye health. Dr. Ragusa was professional, efficient and friendly. Everyone on his office team was. I wish I had written down names. There is a young man in the reception area that went above and beyond to ensure that I had everything I needed. When I walked in, I'd asked him for a note for work, and when I walked out, he had everything ready for me. The tech who took the pictures of my eye was funny and made the process quick and painless. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes, but it did not feel rushed. Dr. Ragusa reviewed the results of my eye exam and immediately gave me feedback. For example, one thing I should do is use eye drops more frequently as my eyes are dry. I would wholeheartedly recommend this ophthalmologist. The whole staff made my visit an enjoyable experience. I'm looking forward to making my visit a yearly experience. Hope this review is helpful. The whole process took about an hour because they needed to dilate my eyes.

SUMMARY: (1) Wasn't given the doctor I asked to see. (2) Did a lazy MACHINE test instead of the more accurate manual vision test. (3) The prescription turned out to be very off. (4) It took 7 calls over many weeks before someone who could address my concern called me back. (5) Refused to refund me the measly $150 when I requested it, but my credit card company stopped payment and I got my refund the hard way. THE STORY: I called the office to make an appointment with Dr. Spitzer because a good friend of mine recommended him to me. I made it clear that I wanted to see Dr. Spitzer. But when I showed up for the appointment and said "Hello Dr. Spitzer" when he walked in, he said, "I'm Dr. Cohen." I explained that I came to that office specifically to see Dr. Spitzer. He offered to reschedule, but at this point it was awkward and I felt bad rejecting this guy. So I said, no, it's fine. Dr. Cohen's assistant tested my vision (refraction test) using a machine. The doctor never did a manual test (you know, where they flip back and forth between different lenses and you say "one" or "two"). This bothered me. I wondered if this was the new standard. He wouldn't write me a monovision prescription when I asked for it even though all my prior ophthalmologist did so, and who, in fact, recommended it for me. So all of the above made me have doubts. I didn't want to spend money on expensive lenses with the wrong prescription. I called a few optometrists with high Yelp ratings, and ALL confirmed that they do MANUAL refraction tests, that the machine is simply used to measure a starting point. In addition, they said that of course they would write me a monovision prescription. I went to one and low-and-behold, the prescription I was given was VERY different from what Dr. Cohen prescribed (not counting the mono-vision difference). Naturally I got my new glasses with the better, manually measured prescription. I called New York Laser Eye LLP to get a refund explaining all of the above. I was told a billing person would call me back. No one did, and it took 6 more calls to finally get a call back. In the meantime, I called VISA to dispute the charges since my deadline to do so would pass otherwise. When I finally got the callback, she put me on hold to talk to Dr. Spitzer, who denied his office failed at all, and that it was standard procedure to only do a machine vision test. He refused to refund me the measly $150, even after I explained to him I paid for another eye test and used that one for my glasses. Any good high-profit business would never make a fuss over $150. $150 matters to me because I'm on a tight budget.

When we both agreed my cataracts had gotten to the point that I really couldn't see well enough to drive at night and it was time for surgery, Dr. Spitzer referred me to Dr. Raviv who explained the current options available for my type of vision. I had astigmatism as a large component of my poor vision, along with near sightedness and cataracts. I opted for the toric lens. I had the surgery at NY Eye & Ear where the staff was highly competent and the procedure went well. Using local anesthesia enables you to recover quickly without the after effects of general anesthesia like nausea and grogginess. The anesthesiologist was congenial & added a sense of humor, so important when you are on an operating table! Everyone was kind and respectful. At my follow up visit I HAD 20/20 VISION IN THE EYE THAT WAS OPERATED ON!! I will be going in for my other eye in about a week... I can see without glasses for the first time in 50 years! I will need an over the counter pair of reading glasses for close reading but am glasses free for most of my day. I am so amazed!!! Thank you, Drs. Raviv and Spitzer!

From the beginning I've always been impressed by the quality of care and services rendered by all doctors and staff. The office environment is bright, clean, modern, and inviting. They used to have a Keurig coffee station in the waiting room (before COVID-19). I believe that Dr. Corbin-Simon is the owner which would make this optometry practice a M/WBE. Highly recommend the added services to screen for eye health even though these services are not traditionally covered by insurance. OptoMap ($39) looks at the back of the eye, and iWellness ($39) looks at the layers of the eye. I requested both for a discounted price of $59. I found the optomap reading to be very thorough and illuminating although, but iWellness was not so simple to understand.

I'm very surprised at how much time he spends talking to you and giving you tips on how to keep your eyes healthy, whether it's externally (use baby shampoo to clean your eyes, wet your eyes by closing them periodically) or internally (take flaxseed oil pills).
