I got my little Lulu from Paula in April this year and she has been such a joy! She's so smart, playful, curious and such a cuddle bug! She has a very sweet disposition. I get compliments daily about how beautiful she is. I've taken her to the vet for shots and she gets a clean bill of health each time, and she's coming up on 8 months now. I've read some reviews saying the dogs seem small, she's pretty average size at around 6.5 months she weighed around 25lbs and will probably be another 5 and will grow a bit more in height. read more

Our boy Jack has crossed the Rainbow Bridge however, after reading all these negative reviews I feel I must share our experience with this breeder. In the winter of 2007 this breeder had litters of Beagles an Boxers in a garage with a heat lamp on them. Puppies are rambunctious and inevitably knocked the lamp over and a horrific fire killed all but three dogs. The three, Jack his sibling and mother, were rushed to the only vet who was prepared for such a devastating event. By the morning the mama and sibling passed. Paula never came back for Jack. Dr. Lavigne of Timber Ridge Animal Hospital in Bonney Lake nursed Jack back to health cleansing his wounds several times a day and applying Silver often. Poor dog had horrible scars that never grew hair. Knowing that I'm a huge supporter of the underdog Dr. Lavigne asked if we'd adopt him. We did and never regretted it. However, at 7 yrs of age he was diagnosed with an enlarged heart which cost us thousands in medical care and unbelievably expensive meds. After several seizures and Jack losing consciousness daily we chose to have him humanly euthanized. It was a very sad day. The heart issue was congenital but the fire....well that's just plain negligent! I was surprised she's still breeding. My beagle we got in October of 2019 had hydrocephalus which is excess fluid around the brain, severe epilepsy and epiglottic retroversion which is a throat defect that causes distressed breathing. Her new litter has the same dad as my girl and I don't want anyone else to get a baby and lose them due to paulas bad breeding. All of Ellie's health issues are genetic and she suffered seizure after seizure and was on medication since she was 3 months. We spent over $13,000 on surgeries, medication, and vet visits. Ellie passed away after receiving corrective surgery for her epiglottic retroversion and I don't want anyone else to have to go through that. We adopted, Louisa, a chocolate tricolor Beagle in April, 2018. She was one of the last 3 of the litter. We had never had a Beagle before and didn't know there were 13" Beagles! Got a beagle November 2013. She told me she'd be surprised if he grew larger than 25lbs. He's around 20lbs now. We always thought he was a clutz and didn't pay attention. Last summer while hiking he jumped down a ravine right in front of me. He was fine after I was able to retrieve him. I knew there was something wrong so I took him into an animal eye dr. in Olympia. He has glaucoma and cataracts in both eyes. The Dr thinks he had the cataracts long before I brought him in. On top of that she said his eyes are abnormally small. People always told us that his eyes looked cloudy but I didn't think much of it because they always were. He's pretty much blind but seems to do fine. The dr was pretty surprised at how well he is able to get around. The Dr and my vet think the eye problems are from bad breeding. She told me when I got him that his litter was the last one that mother was going to have. I did not contact them about his issue. I figured it was pointless after seeing another review about a boxer from there. My dog was over 1 1/2 years old when I found out he was pretty much blind. He's almost 3 now and the vet gives him another year when I might have to have his eyes extracted because of the glaucoma. I wrote this review because today he ran full speed into the mower in the middle of the driveway and now he has a gash on his muzzle. We just met our 3rd beagle baby. She is absolutely adorable. We can't wait to introduce her to her new home. The first time we purchased a fur baby from Paula was over 16 years ago. Madison was a fun loving beagle who lived to be 16 years old. It broke our hearts to say goodbye. Ariel followed her sister To Heaven at the age of 15. After being without our babies for a month, we decided our home was not complete. I called Paula to see if she had a new litter. She did, but she also had s little girl beagle who was 9 months old and had been returned two days prior to my call. She needed a loving home where she could heal from possible abuse. We got our blonde/lemon beagle (Wallace) 3 months ago and we could not ask for a more well mannered, sweet, lovable puppy. It did not take us long at all to house train him, which surprised my husband and I leading us to believe that Paula works and/or handles the puppies in such a way that prepares the puppies for their permanent homes. Please DO NOT buy a puppy from Paula Cox!!! I bought a baby beagle and picked up on October 24th 2019. She has breathing issues so she had to go to a specialist. They did an endoscopy and found out she has a birth defect called epiglottis retro version. It's where the flap in the throat does stay open for her to breathe. We scheduled surgery to have it sutured open but before the surgery she had three seizures so now an MRI and spinal tap. The surgery was done very painful recovery and the other tests. The results were hydrocephalus (water on the brain). The reason for the seizures and now she's on two different medications for the rest off her life. More than likely she will not live a full life not to mention she will lose her eye sight and be deaf. We are devastated and want to get the word out so people don't buy her puppies. She did refund my money but I have spend over $5,000 so far. She will also need a shunt put in and that will cost $5,000 to $9,000 Also she had me send all the vet receipts to her as if I was lying about this whole ordeal. Dear prospective buyers, This is a message to warn you of the perils of purchasing a boxer from Precious Companions. My name is Connor Lenz and I purchased a brindle male boxer from Precious Companions in 2007. He was born to George of the Jungle (sire) and Sweet Pea (Dam) on March 1, 2007. I am happy to provide proof of this in the event anyone is questioning the validity of my claims and I can be contacted at Connor.Lenz@comcast.net if you are interested in the details. My boxer died almost three years to the day after he was born from an auto immune disorder, something that can be and should be easily tested for by the breeder. His immune system eventually began to attack his muscles and organs to the point that he couldn't walk and lost all muscle control. He also had hypothyroidism that was discovered at about 1.5 years after we observed ongoing lethargy. This is also genetic and could have been tested for by Paula Doehne, the breeder at Precious Companion, but she did not test for this either. I contacted Paula via e-mail the year after he died to inform her of the genetic problems and she never responded. I am writing this to warn anyone considering a purchase of a boxer from this breeder that you may suffer the same fate and lose a pet you love dearly because of the recklessness of this breeder. This was our second of now three boxers we have had and none of them have met such a sad fate at such an early age. We now have a great male from Cair Parvell from Vancouver Island, Canada and we highly recommend this breeder. read more

This is a horrible breeder who not only does not honor the one year health guarantee, she curses at you and hangs up when you call. We bought a boxer puppy 9 months ago, he came with a smelly penis discharge that I've taken him to the vet for over four times. Still has it after neutering. I will never get another puppy from this woman. We have adopted 2 from her. One back in 2014 and another in 2017. Our sweet little baby girl is now 8 years old and has an enlarged heart and breathing issues. We took her to a vet and a cardiologist to have her examined. They have given her at most another year to live. The specialist and our family vet told us the heart issue is genetic and comes from our baby being an inbred purebred. We went back and looked at her CKC paperwork and her grandfather is also her father. Our other little pup, a little boy, because Paula screwed up and gave our girl pup to someone else, was only with us for a week before he died of Parvo. The vet said he had to have been exposed before we brought him home for him to have gone so quickly (he showed signs of being sick and was gone before we could get out the door to take him to the vet hospital. He was only 9 weeks old. This woman even told us that she was planning on shutting down because she was getting forgetful, that was the reason she gave us for giving our female pup to someone else. All we can do now is keep our baby girl as comfortable as possible and give her 4 medicines every morning and night and wait for the inevitable to happen. We will lose our sweet baby eventually. Hopefully this breeding program is looked into and shut down before more people lose their little fur babies and are out thousands of dollars in vet bills due to her negligence in breeding and raising these pups. read more

I bought a dog from Paula nearly ten years ago and recently got another from her because we had such a good experience the first time. Paula is communicative and helpful and was willing to answer a bazillion questions. We were able to meet the parents of our dogs both time and get an idea of their life before they entered our family! There are wide open spaces for the dogs to run around with heated shelters. Her home has turned into a little farm and we enjoyed seeing the horse and chickens while driving past -- it is an idyllic place for a puppy to spend its puppyhood! Thankfully I have not yet had the bad health issues that Connor had. I am sorry for your loss, Connor. :( My opinion is that Paula Cox is a bit flaky on the business end of things. Truly I think she is a backyard breeder and simply has more litters than she can keep track of. In addition to breeding Beagles and Puggles, I know she had at least two Boxer litters at the same time, possibly more. She never asks questions about the puppy's new home and since she doesn't allow buyers to see the parents onsite or even photos, one can't even be sure how well they are taken care of. I sent her a text on August 13th to make sure she received my deposit for a Boxer, as she never emailed a response to me. She sent a text back saying she got the deposit and the mother was due to have puppies any day. I was told the parents were Mack and Sparkle. Two weeks later she emailed me to say the puppies had arrived and I could come pick out my puppy in another two weeks. When I went to her place to choose my puppy she told me the mother was Bella, not Sparkle. She ignored my email requesting a picture of the mother (she only had pictures of the fathers on her website). She also does not let you see the parents on site. $900.00 is a lot of money to spend and not be able to see what you are potentially getting. When I chose the puppy that day she told me the pick up date was September 28th. Yet when I sent her a text a few days before that to confirm, she said no, pick up date was October 4th. My papers that came with the puppy say the parents are Shalom and Bella. Neither name she originally gave me AND the birth date was August 1st., meaning that when she sent me the text to say the puppies were due any day they were in actuality already two weeks old. And that made my puppy nine weeks old at pick up instead of eight weeks. In addition, there are no vet papers to indicate the shots they have actually had. I believe she administers the vaccinations herself. She gave me a piece of paper stating when the next worming and shots were due, but it was something she printed out herself. It has crossed my mind she may even dock the tails herself to save expenses. I don't know this for a fact, but since there are no vet papers of any kind it leaves me wondering. The tails look like they are done well though, at least. I'm not saying I don't think anyone should purchase a puppy from Companion Pets. I am just suggesting to be careful and perhaps be more insistent than I was about "proof" of anything Paula tells you. She guarantees their health for one year. Make sure you get that in writing. read more

As a returning customer of Precious Companions it saddens me to hear the previous reviews. I suppose when you are dealing with emotion, we tend to place blame to justify the fact that mother nature isn't always fair. I have experienced amazing joy from my delightful pup's Trail and Trout. They have been great dogs and had no issues with health. When purchasing purebred dogs from a reputable breeder you are taking every precaution to ensure a great dog, however with every breed there are recessive genes that can rear up from many years in the past. I would highly recommend Paula and Precious Companions to anyone looking for a loving pet. Her property and facility is set up to accommodate her dogs very comfortably. They are all well cared for and socialized from conception until they find their forever human families. Again thank you Paula for my boys T n T. I would encourage anyone considering buying a puppy from this breeder to do a lot of homework and trust their gut, eyes, and ears. My very first correspondence with her was a red flag. "I do have a litter due in May. Give me a call and we can chat about the deposit process." This was in response to my very first inquiry about puppies. At this point, she had no idea why I wanted a puppy or the level of care I could provide for it, yet she was immediately willing to take my money. Through a lot of investigating, including visiting with her personally at her business/home address, I don't believe that the dogs and puppies are kept on site. She has had complaints filed against her with King County and is not currently licensed as a Hobby or Commercial Kennel. She was only able to guess at the birthdate of the puppies. I saw 3 adult dogs on my visit but was not actually 'introduced' to any of them. I was told I couldn't meet the dam or the puppies because they were not old enough. I requested but never received a picture of the dam. These are beagles we're talking about folks, they are vocal dogs. I did not hear one bark, bay or any other peep and if I hadn't seen the other dogs, I would never have known they were there. What is on her property however, is a very unsettling, 8 foot, wooden fence quardening off a portion of the property. I have no idea what was on the other side of it, but its being there doesn't exactly shout transparency. When I asked for vet records I was told the dam "has not been to the vet since she got her rabies because she is healthy" I don't think intentionally mating a dog, putting it through 2 months of pregnancy and then the birth of 6 puppies without taking it to vet is responsible breeding. Part of what makes breeding expensive, and so makes good puppies expensive is vet care. With openingly admitting the mother had not been to the vet, I do not see why her puppies were being sold for $600.00. The dogs are apparently registered through the CKC. This is the Continental Kennel Club, not the Canadian Kennel Club. A word of caution to those who don't know...all it takes to register a dog as purebred with this organization are two "witness statements" saying its a purebred and 3 photos of the dog. A registration hardly worth the paper it's printed on and certainly doesn't justify selling puppies for such a high price. I wanted one of these puppies so badly, but did not purchase one. I really can't say how healthy and good tempered they actually are. I still want to believe that she has the best of intentions, however my research has led me to the conculsion that profit is the priorty. I am giving her one star because she did immediately refund my deposit upon request. read more

We purchased a baby beagle from Paula in June 2014. 3 years later without warning our little beagle passed away in her sleep. She died from a birth defect which caused her to have an acute cardio vascular collapse. I write this because this should be a warning to anyone thinking they want to support this breeder. We personnally feel she is out to make money and we question her concern over the actual breeding of animals. She also sold this beagle to us as a 13'' which she never grew to be. People would always ask us what kind of breed was she because she was so small-people assumed she was a pocket beagle and she wasn't. Our experience with this breeder was wonderful. Her grounds were well kept and all her animals seemed loved and well cared for. Our white lemon beagle came crate trained and well on his way to being house trained. He's never had worms or flea's. He is smart as a whip and full of character. I have bought two beagles from Paula. One is now 12 years old and doing well for a beagle that age. She is a sweet girl and loves to cuddle and play. 5 years ago, I bought a second beagle from Paula. He is totally awesome; smart obedient and loyal. A beagle I bought from California died suddenly at age 9 having had no history of illness whatsoever. The vet told me beagles have a reputation for heart disease with sudden death a consequence. They also have hip dysplasia and knee issues on the hind legs. I had a great experience with Paula and her beagles. That's not to say that genetics can't play some evil tricks on us and result in a less than perfect animal. Good review of the breed weakness and investigating the line, help in making calculated choices when purchasing pets. I've raised boxers and I know it can be tricky in the best circumstances.
