Chris is the best. He is everything you could look for in a mechanic! You can tell by just talking to him that he really knows his stuff. He's quick and effective. I could not be more satisfied with this Auto work! My air conditioner blew a compressor and was in dire need of repair prior to things heating up. Precision Automotive Service has earned my business with all my vehicles permanently!!! During a routine oil change, I was told by a "big box" automotive establishment that I needed a new wheel bearing on my vehicle along with a new tie rod, which would then mean the car would also need aligned. The quote was nearly $1,000. They also told me I needed a completely new exhaust... $$$! So, only living here in the Madison area a short time and not really knowing many people, I decided to see who else was around. I sent ten yelp requests for an estimate to local auto shops looking to get only the wheel bearing replaced on my car. I received five responses within a few days. Two told me cost with labor would be $500-$650 and two said they really "needed" to get my car in their shops and "up on a lift" to give me a price. The fifth response was Chris from Precision Automotive. Chris responded right away within a few hours, and a full day before the others, with a detailed estimate of the repair which would get me out the door for almost half what the other two quoted me! So, there's no doubt where I chose. Upon leaving my car, I asked Chris to take a look at my tie rods and my exhaust. Not only did Precision live up to their quote, they told me that my tie rod was completely fine and did not need replaced and that an alignment was not necessary, only misdiagnosed due to the bearing being bad and the inexperience of proper diagnosis. Chris also told me that I didn't need a complete exhaust replacement, only that the pipe before my muffler had a hole in it and that was all that needed replaced and could be done for a tiny fraction of what I was quoted. So, not only did Precision get me out the door for nearly half the next best quote, they saved me from three unnecessary repairs! And not only did they do that, they got me to work (twenty minutes away) and back by lunch with the repair completed and my car ready to go! Before I drove away, I asked for a quote on a new front control arm needed for my mini-van and Chris, without hesitation, quoted me half what I was told at another locally owned auto shop! As I drove away, I noticed that my car wasn't making any grinding noises, the steering wheel wasn't vibrating and had no additional play, and my car wasn't pulling to the side when I broke! My car drove perfectly again. Precision went above and beyond, not only with pricing and a sound repair, but with customer service and honesty. They have earned my business and my loyalty. Moral of the story... I won't take my cars anywhere else again, and I absolutely and very highly recommend them for any service you need on yours! read more

I've waited a few weeks in an attempt to calm down before writing this review. I would give Precision Automotive Service Minus Eight Stars if I could. One for every week of lies. We took our truck in for new spark plugs, front end alignment, and to have a transmission we purchased put on. We were told it would take approximately 1 week. My husband gave the owner first $2,000 in case than an additional $900. Then the lying began. My husband began calling during the second week. The story grew ever more elaborate. Each time he was told, it was close to being done. Then "tools broke". Next "parts had to be ordered". Then they sent "wrong parts". Then the "parts couldn't get found anywhere around". (my husband found that mysterious part in less than 30 minutes at a place in Madison. The story was over the top. But always, they were working on it, staying late, and just needed 1 or 2 more days to finish. After 7 weeks, we visited our truck on a Saturday. It was still covered in the snow that had fallen 5 days earlier. We had brought the spare key. The battery was completely dead. The transmission had not been touched, and the new parts that had supposedly slowed the alignment were there. We got an appointment at Kayser Ford even as the owner begged us to wait just a few more days. We did have to wait a week for a Kayser appt, so it sat at Precision. At the end of week 8, and with an appointment at Kayser the next morning. We picked up our truck. I gave the owner one more chance to tell the truth. He lied to my face. How do I know? He claimed he had put parts on the truck. Kayser found zero evidence of any new parts. The transmission had not been touched. The spark plugs had not been touched. The front end had been perhaps started, but now 2 parts were missing! This explains the dangerous drive we took to get our truck out of this place. It shook and rattled the whole way. Something it had never done before. We were refunded in full and even given a refund of the brief rentals we had to use during extreme length of time. Still, I feel like I gave the guy a free 2 month loan. So if you need an oil change, or maybe a brake job, go ahead. But if you have a real job, you've heard my story. Every word of it is true. I came in to get my car's interior and engine detailed and it was a bit late in the day, but he still agreed to do it even though it would keep him and his guy until after hours. Recently, it was my first time to Precision Auto. I took my son's car there for "odd noises". Chris was so welcoming and took the time to talk to me. He got us in right away. He made sure to call me before doing any repair and quoted me the cost. It was done in a timely manner and when my son and I went to pick it up, he brought us out to the car and pointed out all he had done. I had been to another car repair in the area in the past year for a couple of items and learned they had taken advantage of me and charged me for something they did not even do. I felt so comfortable with Chris that there was an immediate trust. He seems like a genuine guy. We will definitely be taking our cars back to Chris for repair in the future. I used to be so thrilled with the service here. Now, not so much. I set an appointment for a Thursday. When they failed to show up to pick up my car at the scheduled time, I followed up 90 mins after to figure out the issue. Seems they bumped me to a Friday appointment without speaking to me first. Okay, fine. Friday time comes and goes - I call. They tell me they're busy but will pick it up by 130p. No call - no show. So I called and gave them a chance to redeem by rescheduling - they tell me they'll be here by 8a sharp to pick it up Monday. Monday time comes and goes. I call. They'll be here by 930a they say. That comes and goes. I call. They'll be here between 12-1230p they say. That comes and goes. I call. Now they want me to drop it off the next day. Hard pass. Super disappointed. My money is just as good as the next person's but I can't justify giving this company anymore of it. Don't offer a service you can't fulfill. I don't know what's going on over there but this is a disgraceful way to run a business. Won't be back. read more

While traveling on the Interstate north of Madison, the Sunday following the 4th of July, we got into major traffic congestion. Our destination on this trip was Pennsylvania, hoping to arrive there Monday evening. Our GPS showed traffic congestion all the way towards Chicago. Our moving forward consisted of brake, stop, crawl, brake, for miles. After 2 hours of this our van developed major steering problems. At first we thought flat tires, but then the steering wheel would go into a violent vibration. We hadn't a clue as to what the problem was. Luckily there was an exit just ahead of us which we carefully moved towards. At the Love's station that was there we checked tires; all were okay. In asking for help we were directed to a town, Poynette, 5 miles across to the east. We limped over there and found a Cennex station. While asking for help from the employee, a vehicle drove up and Bill, a friend we didn't know we had, (we were in unknown territory and didn't know a soul there) heard of our dilemma. He said he had a trustworthy, top-notch mechanic at Waunakee, who he knew could help us. Our first question was..."Would he be open on Sunday?" After a brief call to Chris, the mechanic, Bill, our new friend, said "Follow me. I'll lead you there." It was truly an unselfish act as Waunakee was a distance of about 30 miles away. Chris test drove the van and pretty well had the problem diagnosed, but put it on the hoist and gave the driving system a thorough check. It proved to be a brake problem which was definitely due to worn brakes failing the dreadful traffic conditions. And the shocks were shot. Had been for some time, really. With repairs like that it merited that we find a motel for the night. Chris called the Baymont Motel near by and we got a wonderful place to stay. We spent a relaxed evening, had a good night, knowing that our van was being worked on by an expert mechanic, and that when he said it was ready for the road, it would be. And it was. By noon, Monday, we left Precision Automotive, and continued our trip to PA. The van drove smoother that it had for months. You can be sure that if Chris and his shop were anywhere near our vicinity 3 hours north, he would be the mechanic for our vehicle needs. We cannot thank you enough, our new friends, for being the "angels of the road" to strangers who needed help. read more
