I purchased a modified 2019 F56 cooper S. I have been looking for a place to have the maintenance done and a shop that can tell me what modifications have been done to the car. He said the exhaust, intake, down pipe, Inter cooler and turbo were changed. It also has coil over lowered suspension and HUGE big brakes up front. He said he would need to get the part number off of the turbo to see exactly what it is. I came in for an oil change and a scheduled brake fluid change. The owner Luis was very personable and performed those tasks at a reasonable cost. He took a look at the car and told me about the modifications. It has a JB4 system (piggy back). After a test drive his opinion was that the car is making a bit more power over stock. He said he could get the car to make more power with a tune to the ECU instead of a piggy back. It should be mandatory to learn auto mechanics in school. In a nation where everyone needs to own a vehicle, and where cars shape our identity, we should at least have a basic notion of how a car works. Not only that, but it will also help people from ending up at a dishonest auto mechanic, which are many. It is unfair to start a review this way for one of the best shops in the business, but it needs to be said that auto repair shops are plagued with crooks and thieves, starting with the dealerships and trickling down to the little shops. Fake oil changes, unnecessary filter replacements, parts changed when all you need is new wires, forking out lots of dough only to be back at the shop a week later, the list is endless. To find a good mechanic is more than a blessing, it's a necessity. That necessity has been fulfilled on my end. Precision Auto Werks (PAW) is a MINI specialty shop. Not only do they breath and sweat MINI, they own MINIs. They can do anything you need to your car. Oil change, regular maintenance, repairs, tire change and rotation, they handle all the basic because they are certified and specialized, and this extends somewhat to BMW's. But that is not all Precision Auto Werks does. They also can turbocharge your engine, change your transmission, install a new exhaust system, upgrade your brakes, they can do anything you need to make your MINI a competition car, or just a sleeper that is no longer stock. And, if you thought that was the end, well, PAW also handles antique and collectible MINIs. Not only that, they also work on imported MINIs, the original ones from England, the ones with the wheel on the right side of the car. This shop is all about MINIs. Every time I go to PAW, I feel like I am entering a museum or a race track. I am probably the only stock car when I get there. All the bays are always taken. Some bays have cars with no engines (rebuilds), some have no wheels, some no transmission. In other words, this place is always packed, and PAW has many projects they are always working on. The place is full not because there are no MINI mechanics in Miami, or because the dealers are a ripoff. PAW is always full because they know what they are doing, they are honest, and they explain everything to you regarding a repair or an upgrade. I have some knowledge about auto mechanics, but it is cheaper for me to take my car to a shop rather than do it myself. Luckily my MINI is as reliable as cars could be, but when I have had to change parts, PAW has always done an excellent job. They have never told me I needed something extra, my car has never malfunctioned after a repair, and they have always been on time. I was looking for a performance shop to start upgrading my R55 Mini and from word of mouth and online reviews I decided to check these guys out. My 1st impression when calling them was awsome. I spoke to Luis and he provided advice and suggestion on certain upgrades and procedures. He took his time to explain to me the process of the upgrades and after about 10 minutes speaking with him, I understood why he owns his own shop. His knowledge and experience allowed me to feel comfortable to have my car dropped off and left in their hands. I replaced my drive belt and installed an exhaust and the work was done in about 2 hours or less and everything was perfect and my car feels perfect. I will be coming back for more upgrades. Luis really knows the MINI. He actually races them (not mine!). He will not try to sell you repairs that you don't need, in fact quite the opposite. I have told him that I think my car needs this or that; after checking it out, he told me it wasn't necessary yet. I am on my 3rd MINI. Had many parts installed on my R53 here, and I was always satisfied. But when it came to installing my BVH, cam and injectors I was told that PAW could tune it better than another expert I was considering, so I went with PAW for the tune, too. I paid $300 more for the PAW tune and left with CEL codes car running too rich. I returned with the car and was told that it's fine that the car runs a little rich, although Luis did admit that the injectors caused him all kinds of problems/misfires to get tuned. I had no reason to not believe him as I had never had a problem there. After a bit I decided to get a second opinion from the original expert and was advised that this tune was way off with ignition timing/running very rich and he was surprised the car even ran, let alone blowing the engine. The car was retuned, and viola, no codes and much smoother acceleration. I also had much better throttle response, idle, and a higher redline (all things that the PAW tune didn't touch). Also proof on the dyno that the car was pulling what it was supposed to (something that the PAW tune didn't provide). I learned the hard way, but feel lucky I still have an engine after all the money I put into it. I wish Luis would've been honest with me that there were problems and we could've continued to do business together. At this point, I won't be back and I feel like I'm owed $650 for a poor tune that could've cost me my engine. read more
