I told him that I was almost 70 years old with both cancer and diabetes and that I only wished to have conservative dental treatment unless I was in discomfort. He then insisted that I have the treatment and stated perhaps I did not understand. I told him I was an educated man who understood perfectly well but denied such treatment. He then tried to cajole me saying then they might not be the right dentist for me. I agreed and left, never to return. In my view, Dr. Siu was arrogant and pompous and I would not recommend him.

Instead of showing any understanding, I was told I would be charged a $145 cancellation fee -- even after offering to provide a doctor's note confirming the medical situation. The office refused to accept it and said I could not reschedule unless I paid the fee. When I reviewed the financial agreement, it only listed a range of possible fees -- it did not state that the charge was mandatory or specify exact amounts for missed appointments. When I asked for additional documentation or written policy to support their decision, I was told none existed. For a healthcare provider, I find this lack of compassion, flexibility, and transparency very disappointing. Medical issues are often unpredictable, and I expected a much more understanding and professional approach from a dental office. Unfortunately, this experience showed otherwise.

I wasn't in any pain, but I needed a root canal and this office is in-network for both my GEHA and Cigna dental insurance plans. The office is located on Main St. in Williamsville. You turn onto S. Long St. and you'll see that it's on the tail-end of the building. The signage isn't super obvious, so keep an eye out. And they do have parking spaces for you. Check-in was quick and simple. The front office (Lisa) had already called my general dentist to get the tooth and insurance information. So, I filled out a couple standard forms and was almost immediately called in to be seen. The root canal went perfectly, as far as I can tell. It was near painless during the procedure and I have yet to experience much discomfort afterwards. What more can you ask for? It did seem like my tooth presented a couple surprises and took awhile (as is typical), but Dr. Shostad kept me at ease the whole time. Her and her assistant (Jacky) have a great chemistry. I felt like I was getting a personal comedy show and it was hilarious...Dr. Shostad the comic and Jacky the straight man. Hey, hopefully you don't need an endodontist anytime soon...but, this is definitely the place to go if you do. :-)

Anyway, there was no pressure, no long waits and since it had been an uncomfortably long time since I'd had regular dental maintenance Dr. Hoon made sure that I got in for a good cleaning, the hygienist was super nice! Also seeing a dentist was not to be that day. She perormed a little cleaning with a water pick and stopped. She would do the rest with the deep cleaning. I complained and she did a little more, but no scrapeing, polishing or dentist evaluation. I was shown to another room where a man told me that would be $1800+. He also told me they gave me a free cleaning. Not true compared to the many times in my 70+ years of experience. (That would have been covered by insurance.) They clearly are upcharging and i wonder if the hygenist works on commission. Let the patient beware! I would really like to give them zero stars.
