Really cant comment on why I am not in your system. My car sat several days and when I said I was coming to get the car whether it was looked at or not. It immediately was looked at strange. I got a hand scribbled quote on a small piece of paper a quote for rebuilt transmission and the cost to install one if I brought in a salvage transmission. 8/24/18 I called in a panic because my car last night would not start. However, this morning it did and someone mentioned it may be a starter issue. Only day or 2 into my Maine vacation and I was ready to head back home! David (I believe owner) was a Life Saver he was able to squeeze me and check out my car. This is THE place to go for all of your automotive needs; rebuilds, repairs and maintenance. My son surprised me and took my '57 Chevy with a 350 ci engine and 350 turbo transmission in for some "freshening up" (80k+ mileage). Dave and his crew removed the engine and transmission. They rebuilt the trans including a mild shift kit before giving it their signature purple paint job. They thoroughly went through the engine replacing gaskets, hoses, belts, water pump, carb linkage, etc. The engine bay was painted flat black, the engine block Chevy red and the valve covers a fantastic gloss black (looks like glass) with the Chevrolet signature in red (car show quality). I hope I am able to figure out how to post pictures so everyone can see the great job Precision Transmission did. Thanks to everyone who worked on my car. I am real pleased with the outcome. I was traveling on 95 when my serpentine belt decided to come apart. Luckily by chance I rolled into their parking lot. I was greeted by the owner I believe, and he was more than helpful. He gave me honest straightforward prices and said he would do everything possible to get the car fixed promptly. He was able to get the part to his shop quickly and had me back on the road in no time. At no time did I feel like he was trying to overcharge me because of the situation I was in. Not being from the area and a broken car it is easy to get taken advantage of. If I ever need any major work done to my vehicle I will go 30 miles out of my way to give them the business. I am from Connecticut and was traveling home from upstate Maine when my car broke down on I-95 near Wells late on a Thursday evening. The AAA tow driver recommended Precision Transmission for emergency repairs. I was not disappointed. Dave, the owner, really stepped up and had my car back on the road by the following afternoon, working past his normal business hours to accomplish this. A complicating factor was that my car is an older model Chrysler (a 1985 LeBaron) and Dave had to travel to Portland on his own time to obtain a needed part. Driving home from Belfast last Tuesday, our Subaru Forester started making a grinding sound in the right front quadrant. I had a very positive experience. David was very prompt in the diagnosis and estimate and did not get offended when I double checked his quote online. He invited me into the work area to show me the new part and let me know see the undercarriage of my own car and explain some small issues that may need to be addressed later on down the road (pun intended.) The waiting area was clean and I even got my lunch microwaved. It was a long wait but not unpleasant and the office manager Carmen was very engaging and fun to talk with while I was waiting. My only regret is that they are not conveniently located to me. (I got referred by AAA when my car broke down in South Berwick). Our axle broke while we were on a weekend trip to the beach. They were closed for the weekend, so the Triple AAA tow truck just dropped our car off in their lot and we waited until Monday to call. They were so nice and professional. They worked on our car right away, and we got it back by Tuesday. If I lived nearby I would bring my car to them all the time. They did a great job, were so helpful and friendly, and their shop is extremely clean and inviting. Absolutely no complaints, I highly recommend them! Also, every local that we talked to was really positive when we told them where our car was getting fixed... can't argue with that! read more

Customer Beware. I own a 1967 Chevy with a small block engine and stock rear differential. Brought my TH 350 transmission for a rebuild and with less than 600 miles of driving transmission locked in forward gears. Spoke with owner who said situation was caused by abuse , without even seeing transmission, and stated it would cost $750. 00 to rebuild again. Went to mechanic in Windham who stated he did not understand why Precision would not back up there work. He offered to look at transmission. Fixed for $400 which included replacing Torque Converter that had a scored neck and was leaking. read more

Went here because AAA recommended them and promised to stand behind the repair when my vehicle broke down. Unfortunately, following that recommendation turned out to be a huge mistake because when the vehicle broke down with the exact same problem just 10 days later, the shop took another entire day to fix it, and charged us again ($525.00 the first time then $497.00 the second time). I wouldn't go back here if my vehicle broke down right in front of their shop - which it probably will considering how long the previous repair lasted. read more

Watch out for this place. They'll over charge you. The owner is Dave. Dishonest Dave. I was doing my own oil change and my oil filter housing was on too tight for what I had for tools. I had all the oil drained out so I needed to tow to the shop. I had all the oil, the filter and all they needed to do was get the housing loose for me. I told them I would do the rest. They insisted they would do the whole thing if they were going to do it. Fine, no problem. They charge $35 for an oil change. That's with oil and a new filter. For just untightening my housing and putting together everything I already had, they charged me $106! Said it took the mechanic an hour. They told me that's with a AAA discount....wont go there again. read more

I don't review things...like ever but I felt I had to put this out there. I am pretty patient but this didn't sit right so. Mixed review: A while back I brought my car in to have some work done including some work on the brakes. Got the car back and it squeaked at first which is normal with new brakes so I gave them some time. A few weeks later they were squeaking louder than ever, something clearly wasn't right. I called Dave to let him know and he told me to bring it in...a few days later before I could bring it in my clutch went (completely unrelated). Knowing this would be a costly fix I garaged it for a year never having resolved the brakes. Fast forward to present day...decide to get the clutch done and decided to see if this was something they could do. They said they could and did a great job, wasn't cheap but wasn't a small job either. I knew they basically had to take the car apart. Anyway, got the car back everything was great except the breaks were still as loud as they were before. Brought the car in the following week (actually today like 30 min ago ) for the sticker and asked them to review the break issue and denied ever working on the brakes and said they're squeaking because they've been sitting. They said they tapped the calipers and that seemed to have fixed the issue (lame) but now it's even louder...granted some time had passed from when they had worked on the brakes but it was the definitely same issue. Wasn't expecting a freebie or anything but to deny ever working on them? Yeesh, I will be taking it someone else to have the brakes done properly. read more

I blew the head gasket on my jeep liberty. I love my jeep and since liberty is not made any more I can't replace it. Dave found a liberty engine with 100000 less miles than mine. I had developed confidence in this business as I live close by and brought both my cars in from time to time--I have an older BMW and I noticed one day there was a slight horn type noise that I thought was a small hole in one of the hoses--I couldn't find the hole so I brought it in for a check-out--- I then received a bill for $497.00 for an emergency brake repair-a repair that I in no way wanted or needed-after a test drive my car's brakes were totally messed up--they took it back in and fixed that problem-but soon other problems ensued - my car has never been the same since--a multitude of issues-- The next morning after the bill and service, I wrote a letter outlining my disapproval ---to which they did not respond---I then entered into dispute mediation with my credit card company--In dispute mediation they lied and said they never got the letter. I was a victim of unwanted bad service-then had to deal with their lies. This was a sorry state of affairs--when you develop trust in a business and then are mistreated, maligned and bamboozled. read more

AAA towed my car to Precision Transmission because it was within 5 miles of where I broke down, which was my AAA limit. Precision Transmission diagnosed my issue as a faulty Cam Position Sensor. With this diagnosis I knew I could fix it myself. It turned out that the Cam Position Sensor was NOT the problem, it was a broken timing belt. A professional mechanic should not have made this mistake. This would be very easy to check with a compression tester. They charged me $255 for a incorrect diagnosis. In the interest of customer service, I returned to Precision Transmission and requested a partial reimbursement because the diagnosis was not correct. They refused and said the code (which any mechanic knows can have multiple root causes) pointed to the Cam Position Sensor. I would not recommend or return to precision transmission because they did not take responsibility for their error and left me with a $255 bill for a incorrect diagnosis. read more

We used precision transmission & auto care because it was AAA rated. We dropped my car off because it had some front bumper damage. It's an old, used car and my wife's in graduate school, so we made very clear that we had no interest in pouring large amounts of money into fixing it. We just wanted an estimate. The mechanic told us, "there doesn't seem to be any significant damage under the bumper -- not even enough to see." After THREE AND A HALF WEEKS of being blown off and not returning our calls, we finally spoke with a mechanic who said the car was so damaged that we "couldn't drive it off the lot" and that it was "$2300 to fix" However, he told us that he, "would take the car off our hands for $300 which is more then it's worth now". When I asked why they had our car for almost a month if they only did an hour worth of work, why they said it wasn't significantly damaged if it had thousands of dollars worth of damage, etc he said, "he was waiting on a second opinion" and they still charged us $75! This place is full of scammers and rude receptionists. As if the treatment of our car wasn't enough, their receptionist was condescending, unprofessional, immature and rude. When we respectfully told her how frustrated we were that we had been blown off for a month, she snapped, "well why'd you bring it to us in the first place?" and "well what's your car still doing here? I don't care!" Considering this business's customer treatment standards, we weren't surprised that the manager wasn't phased at all by his receptionist's attitude (she's someone's relative, perhaps?) Precision Transmission and Auto Care doesn't care about it's customers. They are lazy, they don't get back to you, and then try to charge you a fortune. We called and filed a formal complaint with AAA, and they are going to investigate it. Hopefully they will remove this mechanic's AAA status so no one else gets cheated and mistreated. read more

Got my car inspected on short notice (same day!). They were polite, honest, quick, and cheap.

Took my car in for an inspection. Did not pass due to the need to replace rear brakes, rear right caliper, and front right tie rod. The mechanic said the left caliper was fine. Was given an estimate of just under $1,000 for the repairs. I let Precision know I would have my mechanic take care of the repairs and I would return for a re-inspection. My mechanic's cost for all the same work was just under $500. Returned to Precision with the recommended repairs complete. The same mechanic came to the lobby and said, we saw you got the repairs done, however, your left rear caliper is now stuck. We smell the burning brakes and cannot pass the vehicle inspection until it's replaced. I swiftly called my mechanic and let him know what Precision advised. My mechanic got my car in right away, put it up on the lift and let me know the left caliper was not stuck and had nothing wrong with it. He then took my car to a different inspection garage and the car passed hands down. The...now 3rd...mechanic also confirmed nothing was wrong with the left caliper. Precision made me feel insignificant as a woman. And in my opinion, I was "being punished" for not giving them the original repair job that was estimated at roughly $1000. Approach with caution, especially if you're not a man! read more

Avoid this rip-off garage at all costs! They overcharge and are extremely unprofessional and rude. I brought my vehicle in for repair of malfunctioning running board and asked them to provide me with an estimate. They proceeded to spend "4.5 hours" of labor estimating the problem. They supposedly had to "take apart" my vehicle's back seat to try to diagnose the problem. They NEVER ASKED MY PERMISSION TO SPEND 4.5 HOURS OF LABOR OR TO REMOVE MY BELONGINGS OR TO TAKE APART THE BACK SEAT!!! They literally threw all my belongings into the bed of the truck. They told me the job would be $1800 or possibly even more. When I told them that I couldn't afford that, they proceeded to charge me $400+ for "diagnosing" the problem. I consulted with a Ford dealership and they stated that the back seat did not need to be taken apart and that a diagnosis could be done in less than an hour. I questioned the owner about the cost and told her that I found it to be excessive. She was extremely rude and could care less. She became argumentative when I asked her why hadn't I been called and asked if they should spend more than an hour diagnosing it or if they could take the seat apart. I asked for a more reasonable bill. She flat out refused. She has the worst automotive repair customer service disposition I have ever experienced. Funny that this place was able to fix the other running board on the same vehicle for about $150 which is the main reason I brought it back. When I made the appointment to fix the 2nd running board, I asked to confirm the cost of the first one. She indicated it was $150. I was not expecting to be told the 2nd running board would be thousands to repair and that diagnosing it would take more than 1 hour. I also find it interesting that they claimed they spent 4.5 hours diagnosing the vehicle when their own receipt shows the repair invoice ticket was created at 12:04 pm and completed at 2:02 pm. The bottom line is I was totally ripped off. I wouldn't recommend Precision Transmission in Wells, ME if it was the last garage on earth. read more
