I would like to warn everyone how this company works and has virtually no customer service. I was acosted du my traumatic accident by an unknown tow truck driver someone I didn't call and he proceeded to drive me straight to a waiting rental vehicle before taking me to the collision reporting centre. I was emotionally in shock and my car was totalled . He drove m to the waiting vehicle before letting me report my horrific accident. I was instructed to sign the papers before I was able to report my accident. it was Friday of a long weekend. I am a senior and I was alone in my car. I attempted the following week to immediately return the car and they said they would charge me $1000.00 plus rent fees incurred for returning the car " early " They want all they could ge from my insurance and me. It is a total scam. After 6 weeks I was finally able to return the car because the insurance had settled with me. Another Friday of a long weekend I was instructed by the adjuster to return the car on Monday by 5 PM. I called over 100 times and the answering machine always said the ag were speaking to other customers. I called all weekend. I checked their website and nothing was said th were closed all the long weekend. I checked their site and it only said hours might vary! I was shocked to suggest improving customer communication in their advertising I was told well it is a long weekend. No one listened as I had never dealt with car rental companies before. I will never forget the extraordinarily poor service and attitude towards customers who are going through some of the worst e of their live. I could have been killed by the other driver. Scam company, Select Car Rental, the company works in the office of PREFERRED CAR AND TRUCK RENTALS, It all started when I had a car accident, the tow truck called Select Car Rental to bring me the rental car near the accident site, when the company employee arrived with the car I said that I work with the car and drive a long distance every day and I can't afford to pay for mileage limits, he said "don't worry, your insurance company is responsible for the car rental, your insurance will pay for everything, all invoices will be sent to the insurance", so I kept the car. My insurance contacted me informing me that Select Car Rental was charging a high amount for the rental car and that I should pay the difference, I called Select Car Rental and tried to return the car, but the rental company said that I should pay $500 early return fee, I complained by email and the rental company responded they came to an agreement with my insurance adjuster. The tow truck left my car at a Body Shop they indicated, this was another very bad situation, the Body Shop took 4 months to fix a car that was expected for 2 weeks and delivered the car with many problems. When I returned the rental car, they asked me to pay $1195 for excess km, I refused and explained to him what their staff told me when they delivered the car to me. The next day, they tried to charge $500 + $2595 on my credit card. After this they charge $1400 on my credit card. All of the negative reviews are accurate here. If you get into an accident and are referred here by the towing company (Prozone near Torbram/Steeles in my case), DO NOT TAKE THEM. They are big crooks. They prey on people who are traumatized after an accident and sneak in shady stipulations into the rental agreement. Not only is it $50/day and they lock you into a month of usage, if you cancel early, there's a $500 cancelation charge?? Basically you're automatically going to be screwed out of minimum $500 or $1,500. They didn't tell us this until after we signed the papers. They are also very untrusting of you because they take note of every single scratch and ding all over the car before you take it, and check it again when you return it. I am very fortunate that my insurance is paying for the whole ordeal since the accident was not my wife's fault. I feel SO sorry for anyone who takes a car here and has to pay for it. I repeat, DO NOT GO TO THIS RENTAL PLACE. They are predatory and get people who are not in the right state of mind to take a rental car. This rental car is a sham; they are lying and not at all honest. They only worry about making more money. They handed us a car that was really filthy on the interior, and after a few hours, we realized that one of the tiers was virtually flat. They promised us a new one the next day, which they lied about, and we still haven't received it. It was my first time renting a car from a fraud. No one has ever recommended me. My experience with this company was just a complete joke.... the Lorimar road location. No wonder they were kicked out of the better business bureau. Insurance company warned us to return the car, they make people sign contracts that are not clear and will charge you undisclosed fees if you return the car plus 500$ penalty. The car had given me which has no windshield fluid and not working properly. After driving 20km suddenly it creating some kind of noise from engine. After I called them they didn't receive my phone. They didn't provide me any kind of service. End of the day I canceled my trip. They took double charge from me even though they didn't inform me they took it directly from my credit card. Tow truck operator offered rental service after a collision. A car was delivered to me at the scene, a 2012 with well over 100,000km lots of minor damage and imperfections the key fob remote entry did not work. The next day I asked to exchange and was told no problem, upon arrival at store front I was told to wait as nothing was immediately available, after 20 minutes I asked to cancel so I could go elsewhere and was told a $250.00 cancellation fee would be charged to my card. After the screaming match I was shown (Very fine print on back of contract). The Accord provided after a further 20 minutes was very good new with low mileage. I felt badly treated and taken advantage of in a time of stress by this company. I, however, did not fully read the contract. READ THE CONTRACT!! A tow truck driver offered a rental to my son after a car slammed into his vehicle late Friday night. He made him sign a contract. Without explaining anything to him the driver puts the contract is until nov 15. That's a month away. The following morning my son calls to say he is home and will be returning the rental today. He is told he can't. They are closed and you can't stop it off. We both take Monday off to drive to mississiagua from cottage country and are told there is a $500 fee for early returns. Absolute scammers. Reminded them that there is a 48 hour rule to cancel a contract. They don't care. The is the lowest of the lows. Waiting in the wings for people who are at their worst just to pounce we paid their $900 bill for 72 hours of a car rental. I hope they can sleep at night. Karma. read more

I'm a senior citizen who is 80 years old and live in Brampton. I was involved in a car accident (not my fault) last week in Brampton (HWY 10 and Bovaird Drive). A tow truck from preferred car and truck rental arrived and towed my vehicle to a body shop (I later found out from the insurance company they had charged $1100 for a 10 kilometre tow (unbelievable). They gave me a rental vehicle at a rate of $200 a day, also unbelievable! I returned the rental car early. They charged me $500 for early return fee. I have rented lots of vehicles over the past 60 years and never heard of such a absurd fee. Preferred towing and preferred car and truck rental (same company) operate a very shady and corrupted business. They rely on on innocent confused car accident victims; towing their vehicles for unbelievable rates and giving very high priced rentals. I have hired a private investigation firm to investigate this corrupt company. read more

Although, there were some miscommunication prior to her involvement - Katherine was efficient in her efforts to resolve the change in car, that I requested. If you are renting from this company and need concrete results, speak to Katherine. I had to change the car that was originally provided, Katherine handled the situation well and had an employee deliver the car to my home. Sometimes, a challenging situation can be resolved with the right communication style. The owners are also open to resolving any challenges that you may have, as long as you have the patience to give it a wait. read more

They show up after a tow truck driver calls them, load the stuff into their car and then gets you to sign the paperwork "guarantee-ing that they will match your insurance's daily rate no matter what". WHAT A LOAD OF CROCK! they sneakily put in a clause where you automatically have a 1-month rental from them (plus any "extra" days you may have asked for - ie you need 4 days and they write 1 month AND 4 DAYS) and you have a $250 early return fee and a $500 breaking the contract fee if you return it in 4 days. save yourself from them and wait the extra time for your insurance to issue you instructions on where and WITH WHOM you should be renting your car. note: they have a 1-star rating with the BBB read more

In July 2019 I was involved in a not at fault accident, car written off and this company and the tow truck company somehow feed off each other. The tow truck was just there, somehow my car just happened to be towed, somehow when we got to the storage yard, a car was mysteriously there and when Preferred did not receive the daily rate they wanted, they traded me out of a high end car into a Mazda that was falling apart and didnt even have a horn. The the tow truck company wouldnt return my insurance companies phone calls until a lawyer got involved. All this to receive extra storage fees. I cant believe scams like this go on or that these companies are allowed to operate. Of course they have your Visa number, so you are reluctant to report them but now that the lawyers are involved, it feels safer! I truly don't know how this company is still in business, it should be illegal and shut down. As you have read or will continue to read a tow truck will call them if you are involved in a collision (whether or not you are at fault). They will befriend you and make you feel comfortable and like you can trust them. They will take your credit card information and they are a dishonest company. I'm looking at an unidentified 1000.00 charge on my credit card right now for an accident that I was not only not at fault for but I know the rental rate per day from my insurance company and it does not even come close to matching this 1000.00 charge. I am currently in the middle of cancelling my credit card. The business is not even open yet so I am unsure what else will follow but I can only assume it will be more scamming and an even bigger headache. read more

This place has got to be the worst car rental place I've ever dealt with! Everything you're reading in the reviews here is true. They brought me a dirty car that literally had dried up food all stuck to the side of the driver's seat. And dents all over it.. the walk around was ridiculous when I first got the car to try and point out all the dents and dings. I asked for a new car and waited days to realize I wasn't actually going to get one. They wouldn't negotiate with my insurance company on the rates. They charged my card 21 days after I drop my car off for no reason. You can't get a hold of them because they're only apparently open for about 4 hours a day. So they say.... To tell you you can't drop off the car without an appointment so you have to work around their schedule and they'll postpone it for two or three days just so you have to pay more. Literally the worst f****** company. They changed their name on Google so that you can't leave a proper Google review... I think it's assured instead of preferred but I'm not 100% sure. Seriously the worst. Stress caused by this car rental company literally probably shaved at least 6 months off my life. I'm not even trying to be dramatic. read more

We suffered a major car accident on a Friday night and our tow truck driver dispatched a vehicle from Preferred Car and Truck Rentals. Moments after a horrific accident we were handed the keys to a rental car we hadn't even requested, and in that moment of confusion we made the mistake of accepting the car as they convinced us everything would be handled by our insurance company. Fast forward 3 days when we speak with our insurance company and find out Preferred Car and Truck Rentals is charging double what Discount or Enterprise would charge and we contact Preferred to try and return the vehicle, only to be told that we would suffer a $250 cancellation fee if we try and get out of our "contract". I would warn anyone and everyone not to use this company or their services, even call a cab if you have to, rather than being duped into their services. read more
