A Follow Up Review from my last review: Because I had used Ivor and Preferred Turf a few years ago for my backyard, I decided I wanted to also update my front yard by replacing the grass with turf. I got tired of paying the water bill, constant fertilizing and feeding along with mowing and weeding. Iver promptly came out and gave me a fair bid. Because I had used him previously and had vetted four companies before selecting him, I did not feel I needed to get any further bids He immediately started on the work and finished as promised. However, due to the weather at the time, he knew he was gonna have to come back to stretch and tighten the turf once the weather warmed up. Ivar and his team returned to the house over the weekend and made all the necessary adjustments to tighten up the turf and make it look pristine! Due to water restrictions and the ridiculous price of water we made the long overdue decision to install artificial turf. Because we're on a corner it involved quite a bit of square footage and we new it wouldn't be inexpensive, but having made the decision to move forward we were more concerned with the quality of the work. We also did a small 200 sq ft area in the back near the pool. We got several quotes, and to be fair all the people we spoke to seemed very professional and all of the prices were close. Update We had two leaks in sprinkler lines after the turf was installed and Ivar's crew came out and promptly fixed both (which were discovered on two separate days). Each time they responded to the house promptly with almost the entire crew who worked diligently to pull the turf and repair the leaks. They replaced the substrate material, leveled it off and replaced the turf in the same way it was originally installed. These guys were very courteous and even power brushed the entire front yard when they were done. They also fixed a couple of small drip irrigation heads in the nearby planter bed that were leaking. Ivar and his guys laid turf for me a little over a year ago. The turf looks pretty decent, but there are weeds growing through it. The installers were a bit unaware when carrying in turf and managed to knock over my bird feeder and my hummingbird feeder. They also did a terribly messy job of capping my sprinklers I found it difficult to work with the owner/manager Ivar. He was very difficult to schedule with because he basically flew by the seat of his pants day-to-day. He couldn't schedule a day until right before and even then the team showed up hours late more than once without anyone letting me know. (They blamed it on a store not having something they needed, but it wasn't a surprise part, they had just waited until the morning of to purchase it. And they still didn't bother to let me know they weren't arriving at 8am and would show at 1pm instead.) I recently begrudgingly contacted them again to repair a couple burn areas made by my gardeners. (I wanted the patch to match.) I had to contact them multiple times before getting a response: "Sunday is my best bet." I said I wasn't in a huge hurry, but I needed to get something scheduled "for sure" so I knew when I needed to be available and I couldn't wait until the day before. Ivar confirmed Sunday and said his guys would be here around 3pm. At 4pm Sunday, I texted asking for an updated arrival time as the guys were not here. No response. At 6:30pm, I texted asking if he really couldn't even update a customer when his guys weren't going to show up at all. At 7pm he texted back and called me rude! His words were "Your repair is not urgent please find someone else or wait till I have time. Also stop texting with your rudeness. I will no longer tolerate this" He was the one who told me he was available on Sunday at 3pm! I simply asked for a day & time to which he could commit because he had left me sitting, waiting for hours in the past. I would not have come back to him, but I wanted the patch to match. Instead I was left waiting for hours AGAIN. But apparently I'm the rude one because I expect professionals to honor their commitments or at least inform customers when plans change. His excuse for not telling me was that he thought his guys did show up and he'd only learned at 6:45 that they were "too tired." But as I mentioned, I texted him at 4pm asking for an update and I wouldn't have done that if they had showed up. And, as the owner & manager, it's his responsibility to know whether his guys are at the jobs when and where they're supposed to be. I will be finding someone else to do the repairs. Gaslighting your customers after treating them like they don't matter is a horrible business strategy. I recommend you go with a different company for your turf. read more

I have always been skeptical on having turf, always thought it looked too fake and you can always see the seams, so it looks like crap. Finally I had enough of the dirt in the yard and decided to go with turf. Found preferred turf off of Yelp called one day came out the next day for an appointment and to give me a quote, said it will probably be two weeks before they could start, then that same day they said they could come out tomorrow to start. I am so pleased with my new lawn, beyond what I thought it would look like upon completion. Neighbors have already come by and said how FANTASTIC it looks, one neighbor thought it was real grass. Mike came out and did a fantastic job taking measurements and giving me several options. He spent over an hour doing a diagram of the specific area that I needed done. Mike was one of the first reasons (along with overall great Yelp reviews) that I went with Ivar and Preferred Turf. Other companies that I got quotes from came out, took a quick measurement, gave me a price and we were "done" in less than 10 minutes. It was a 2 day job for 1,044 square feet. Seven guys came out bright and early yesterday morning along with their "foreman" Luis. They worked about 6-7 hours yesterday and then did the installation today which took about another 5-6 hours. Hard working team and followed Luis's direction very well. Ivar came out the 2nd day to meet me and what a nice down to earth guy. He helped his team with a few last minutes things that needed doing, sprinklers and the like and we had a nice long chat. His wife Nataly was also very helpful in getting the ball rolling once I decided to go with Preferred Turf. Again I cannot be more thrilled with how the job turned out. Every time I see a leaf falling on my new "grass" I rush out there to remove it. A good experience throughout the entire process. Nataly, who was our initial point of contact, was extremely responsive and efficient in setting up the initial appointment with Mike (sales rep). Mike was knowledgeable about his products and took the time to educate me on the different installation methods, which was one of the main considerations that ultimately made me choose Preferred Turf. He wasn't pushy at all and didn't even seemed bothered that I told him he was one of three quotes I was pursuing. If you're considering Preferred Turf, make sure to ask about the permeability of the turf and why they don't need a weed barrier for their installs. Then came Ivar (owner) and the installation team--wow! A small army of 8-10 showed up right on time. They were extremely professional, efficient, and clean! Personally, I gauge whether a project is worth spending my time as a DIY vs paying for it by the level of difficulty and price. After seeing their installation process in person, I'm glad I didn't try to take this on myself. Specifically, they showed competency through all phases of the project: initial digging; to installing bender board; capping and moving sprinkler heads; moving 4-5in of base rock into my yard; to utilizing an impact machine throughout; and finally to the cutting and nailing of the turf--they were legit! Btw, Ivar was there almost the entire day! The only time he was away was to go pick up material. He made a point to walk all aspects of my project and made sure I was completely satisfied with the end product. Preferred Turf truly exceeded my expectations.
