If you like good espresso and coffee then this is your place. I have never had a bad drink from here. I always get a cappuccino and my husband gets a pour over. I like the way they serve coffee, the cups and the pour over are always so aesthetically pleasing. Only down side I would say it's not somewhere I would study or do a work. Not a ton is seating upstairs and downstairs is too loud for me to study or work. Also the seats upstairs in the cafe are mainly all broken and I'm worried the plastic is going to fully break and a rod is going in a place you wouldn't want a metal rod. I'm shocked they haven't got new seats. Some are barely hanging in there. But service is good and the product they serve is good. For my first non-chain coffee shop in OKC (as a consistent cafe hopper) I was impressed with this spot's creative and unique menu. It's in a food hall, which creates a lively energy. They sell local artists' work and MUJI products! We ordered two seasonal drinks and my favorite was the Granny's House (oatmeal cookie flavor). Friendliest baristas who are lovely at chatting. Prelude Coffee Roasters is located inside 8th Street Market food hall. It's a unique coffee shop that provides excellent tea and coffee products and special drinks. One of the best feature of of the shop is their tea products are from Urban Teahouse, another favorite tea shop of mine. Their specialty drinks rotate so you might not be able to get them all the time. They also sell their coffee products as well as vintage clothing at the corner of the shop. There is not a lot of options though. I got one of the specialty drinks, the Last Flight Home which is a sweet almond herbal tea from Urban Teahouse with a splash of tart cherry juice. The tea is served with a dressed up Biscoff cookie, which is my favorite feature of this specialty drink. This is how Vietnamese people like to drink their hot tea, with some sort of cookie dessert. Specialty drinks are hits or misses, but you could go with a latte as a safe option. Service is great at Prelude Coffee Roasters. This coffee shop is great for talking and hang out, but would not make a good study spot because there is a bar downstairs and it can get pretty noisy. read more

Of all places in the OKC metro north of I-40, this is the most flavorful, most consistent, enjoyable coffee. We drink at all shops north of I-40 and this is my only five star because of their consistency, friendliness and quality. They have great seasonal drinks that the engineer I. House with their own custom-made syrups. They are definitely opinionated on their coffee but are always willing to work with people who ask off menu. They are edgy but engaging. It's a type of fun attitude that makes the coffee play a treat. They don't do their own baked goods, but do have some to offer on a first-come-first-served basis. The environment is very inviting and much seating in the commons area. Give them a try if you're looking for an OKC treat. read more

LOVE!! Always peaceful and cozy here. The seasonal specials are the classiest, most-mature in the city which makes me feel very cool whenever I get one. The baristas are always incredibly nice and helpful. There's a good variety of seating. Only complaint would be that the plastic chairs at the tables are kind of flimsy and have definitely faced a decent amount of wear. Parking can be a little weird and tight at 8th Street Market, but I've never had any real problems and just park on the street if needed. Thank you! read more

I was downtown for a dentist appt and wanted an iced coffee before heading to do some errands. Located in a little building with a brewery and a few shops. Very cute place and some people were there studying (either upstairs in the coffee area or downstairs in the common area). Fun place to just sit and hang-out, read, drink coffee/beer, or grab a quick bite. Parking wasn't horrible, but I had to park down the block and walk over. Luckily it was a nice day. Prelude has become one of my new favorite places to get coffee for so many reasons. 1) The coffee is really good. Beans are roasted at the shop and the baristas are very knowledgable. Love how their batch brew is just $2, but their espresso drinks are great treats. 2) They have tea for the non-coffee drinkers! Tea is from Urban Teahouse, so you know it's well-sourced and packs great flavor. 3) They support other local places! In addition to Urban Teahouse, they get some of their cups from a local pottery artist, so it was great chatting to the barista about how they source everything from pastries to pottery. 4) Great environment! Awesome new spot for coffee!! We went two separate times with two different baristas, and the coffee was amazing both times! My husband compared the coffee to San Francisco's Four Barrel- the two are tied for best coffee he's ever had! It's in a new marketplace type building (looks like a converted warehouse? But might just be a new building.) It's got that minimalist hipster aesthetic of exposed rafters, brick, open air etc. It's a great space with lots of seating, next to prairie artisan ale taproom, and an intriguing looking Asian noodle place. One major note- the mocha was not good IMO. It kind of had that fakey chocolate taste of ice skating rink hot chocolate. All in all, great coffee in a nice environment. I finally got the chance to stop by and try them. I was going to get their cold brew coffee, but I ended up getting a chai tea latte. The chai tea latte was very aromatic, smooth, but it lacks that spicy bite. Still, it is one of the better chai tea lattes that I've tasted. The barista we had was sweet, knowledgeable, and friendly. My friend had their cold brew, but she did not like it because it was sour. Overall, it was a good first impression, and I will likely return since another friend of mine told me about their taro latte that he loves so much, which I missed out on when I was there. read more

I have now been to almost every espresso/coffee shop in Oklahoma City and ordered a cappuccino at each one (including the hipster ones). This stands out as the best. I am having such a good week, finding all these five star establishments! This coffee shop is in the 8th Street Market, which is similar to The Collective and The Parlor. They are buildings with a variety of businesses in them, rather like an indoor mini-mall. So, look for a building just west of Oklahoma Avenue on 8th Street, with a big sign on top that says "8th Street Market." There is also a smaller sign in the parking lot. But now, the coffee. It's impeccable. It's bold and welcoming and morning. In other words it's really good. They make all their own steps for lattes and I was a bit nonplused at the choices: they have vanilla, mocha, simple syrup and a seasonal syrup. Normally I get the seasonal, but this has juniper berries and as a hater of gin, well that's a no. So I tried the vanilla. And it's really good. I enjoyed it. read more

The most awesome thing about this coffee shop within the 8th Street Market is not the quality of their coffee/tea and other beverages (which is top notch) but the fact that they are a combination bookstore! Many of the books they sell are also among the latest cutting-edge fiction out there, so this was paradise for an (award-winning) fiction writer and avid fiction/book reader such as myself - I also bought a copy of "Joan is Okay" by Weike Wang, one of my favorite (fellow Asian American) writers. The iced chai latte I got was excellent, so was one of their signature drinks (forgot the name) that had a special sugar or spice lacing the edge of the glass and another white-and-purple drink that could have also had some lavender flavor infused within it. If you are in the 8th Street Market checking out Prairie OKC or Magasin Table (which I also gave 5 star reviews of), make sure you stop by here for some coffee afterwards (and maybe also to buy a book or two)! Hello pals. Let's talk about Prelude Coffee. 1) Probably the most important, the coffee is well done. Roasted here, and carefully prepared. Never once had a bad espresso here. And the espressos come with little caramel candies! Their presentation of their product makes you feel special. And that is hard to replicate. I encourage you to get drinks NOT to go if you can. It's a really neat experience. 2) The space is really, really cool. Far enough away from the hustle and bustle of 8th St. Market crowds, but close enough to make you feel like you are a part of something. Super handy if you want to tuck away to get some work done. 3) The staff is friendly. Coffee shops often get a bad reputation for know it all staff, but I can assure you- this staff is genuinely welcoming. One of the owners is behind the counter 9 times out of 10. Come in often enough, and you will make new friends. How best to enjoy Prelude: You have an afternoon or mid morning to spend, and want to escape the world in their little sliver of the world. My friend had an iced coffee and I had a drink called purple rain which taste something like a piña colada minus the alcohol. Friendly barista's and cozy environment with plenty of books to peruse.
