Whenever I need a break from Starbucks, I am always on the lookout for local coffee shops to support. Classen Coffee Company was obviously not too far from Classen Curve. I got a flavored cappuccino (I think it was a cinnamon walnut flavor) and some Belvita biscuits, even though they had a small selection of pastries. The cafe is also conducive to working and studying, as there are ample seating areas to do work while sipping on coffee. I frequent Asian District so not knowing that Classen Coffee Co. even existed just makes me mad. Part of the problem is Classen Coffee Co. is not facing Classen street directly. It's partially blocked by Quoc Bao Bakery, and the parking lot is on the side. But thanks to Yelp, I was able to find Classen Coffee Co. Classen Coffee Co. is a little coffee house that serves excellent coffee from the traditional latte to the robust pour over. It has both indoor and outdoor patios. It is by going inside that you realize how old some of these buildings truly are, Quoc Bao Bakery included. I am more than thrilled that some of these old buildings have been restored to make Asian District more vibrant and diverse. If you don't know by now, I love OKC Asian District. For most Asian Americans, the go to coffee shop would be Lee's Sandwiches. But I would encourage people to venture out and appreciate other cultural products. Even though I like Vietnamese coffee, sometimes a latte is what I need. Classen Coffee Co. is an excellent place to get a latte. If I have known this place sooner, this would have been a great place for studying. Now for me, it's a great place to relax and get away from the busy and noisy city life. WOW. Their americano is so good! The flavor is full, smooth and the most "coffee" tasting coffee I've ever had! Very multidimensional and not a hint of burnt. I'm so glad I gave this place a chance! Will be a regular now I work downtown so I'm very familiar with the downtown americanos. I switch between Stella nova and gilded acorn but I usually end up doctoring it up when I get back to my office. I get an iced americano with vanilla syrup (usually sugar free and only half the normal amount). I had to start asking for a splash of cream at Stella and gilded bc their quality was dipping and it was obvious. But classen coffee is so good!! Two actually, because I got one for the wife as well. The espresso on both were bitter/burnt tasting, and the syrup had an artificial taste, which makes me think it wasn't a house-made syrup like we were hoping. Ordered an iced almond tea and it was refreshing and unique! It tasted almost cinnamon-y to me with a faint taste of something akin to almond extract. My friend enjoyed her chai latte and scone. The chairs aren't the most comfy, and it was pretty warm inside (it was 100 degrees outside and I really wanted to be in strong AC). They do have some fans set up there. Cortado. Not on the menu but when I asked, I could see the barista smile just a little bit. Cortado is served in a small glass. It is half espresso and half steamed (not foamed) milk. I find it makes the coffee taste better as well as it's got a lot less milk. This one was perfect. Thank you. I spent about 90 minutes here. Very cool coffee shop. My husband ordered the dirty chai iced and it was so smooth. Usually some coffee places have chai that's overpowering; this was the perfect balance. I ordered the lavender vanilla latte; it was perfectly balanced as well. Often times the flavored lattes can be overpowering in sweetness, but this was perfect. Incredible coffee place, especially if you are looking for a place to study or read (it's quiet outside on the patio, since it may be slightly harder to accomplish those thing s inside with the music). They also serve excellent iced chai tea and hot/iced matcha green tea lattes - which I always order when I come here. Free water from a glass dispenser but my only complaint is that it's a bit hard to get it out of what seems to be an antique spigot. I was able to knock out like 2/3 of a book on UK Tort Law while here, testament to how the environs might encourage focusing. This is a super fun coffee place hidden in downtown OKC. Their seating area is perfect for studying or a group hangout. There is not a lot of seating offered but it wasn't too busy when we visited. We didn't feel rushed or hurried while there. My friends (all from out of town) and I were looking for a place to continue chatting after brunch (where we were hurried out, somewhat understandably). None of us ordered coffee but two of them got hot tea and loved it and one of them got a London Fog that looked delicious. I really like the atmosphere of Classen Coffee. They keep it simple. Not too crowded with stuff. They also have plenty of windows along the walls, so it doesn't feel stuffy. I always like places that feel bright/ light inside like that. Also the building itself is pretty cool. It's kind of like a Spanish style of architecture, I think. If anything, it makes me think of a little Spanish style house. One thing I like especially about Classen Coffee is that they have more than just the basic flavor options for your coffee. I'm all about trying unique flavors of things, whether it be coffee, ice cream, or whatever. So, I really appreciate that they do creative seasonal specials throughout the year. The last time I was there they had some kind of lavender latte. Of course I had to order it! To be honest, it wasn't my favorite unfortunately. For some reason I just kept thinking it tasted kind of sour/ tart instead of a more herbal-y lavender that I'm used to. I personally didn't really think it tasted like lavender really, I just couldn't taste it. Then I started to think, well maybe it's the coffee itself that I'm tasting that's kind of tart. I'm not a coffee connoisseur by any means, so I have no clue. All I know is I probably wouldn't order that one again. It wasn't necessarily bad (like I drank it all still) but just not what I was hoping it would be. I have tried some of their other unique and regular flavors though, and have liked them. I tried some of the sage latte, and I was surprised that I kind of liked it.
